>>Are we really going to choose a military option and take Greenland by force, when 85% of them don't want to join us? Doesn't that give implicit permission to communist China to waltz over the Taiwan Straight and take the Republic of China?
Well, let's see... a non-exhaustive list of our using military options to take things by force in the last 20 years or so: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Ukraine / Russia, Chad ... I'm sure I'm missing some. That's not to mention all of the countries we are constantly involved in without using any military options. So I'm not sure why adding one more to the list changes anything in China's calculations. That said, I don't think anyone is planning on taking Greenland by force. This is how Trump negotiates. He starts with a huge ask, then "moderates" to get what he really wanted anyways. Which in this case is mineral concessions and continued access to Thule Airforce Base, and a stronger claim / presence in the Artic region. Which is really Greenland's value here, as Russia has the most territorial claims in the Artic, Canada is ... unreliable, and our only real claim is anchored by Alaska. "We are Kalaallit,” he said in a March 5 Facebook post, referring to the Inuit people in Greenland who form the island’s majority population."
You are freeloading, land-squatting, jive turkey slapdicks. As I understand it, there wasn't any native population on Greenland ever. These Inuit -- if indeed they really are, which I doubt -- only wandered over much later when it was safe and easy. Am I right about that? I think so. I'm really sick and tired of every fucking half-assed "native" everywhere on Earth endlessly whining and moaning about "their land" and "their culture." Your "culture" was primitive dogshit that failed you. Your "land" was taken fair and square by an obviously superior culture. Dudes, you lost. L-O-S-T. Shut the fuck up and get over it. Posted by: illiniwek at March 13, 2025 11:06 AM (Cus5s) Yeah, the nearly mythical "Northern Passage" is a big part of this right now. If sea ice is truly receding, then that 200+ year dream of a northern passage around the Americas from Europe to Asia might become a reality. Russia has a fleet of icebreakers, many nuclear powered, that can navigate the passage most of the year. If that technology gets better (not sure how that happens) OR if the ice doesn't get as thick, then maybe the northern passage will be a real thing someday. Thank you whig. I also believe that reverting to our traditional foreign policy is not a Democrat notion. In fact, other than the Bushes, pretty much every major war in US history was started by a Democrat. And until Vietnam, every major anti-war movement was led by Republicans. And, in fact, I believe our country and culture cannot survive for much longer if we continue down this post-WWII foreign policy path. Being a global hegemon is not compatible with being a self-governing Republic. Even with a monarchy and an eager population, the British Empire could barely hold it together. We have no hope of doing so. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at March 13, 2025 11:34 AM (uCjyK) 131

There is a "Greenland Airports" channel on YouTube. I put it on one screen sometimes (muted), just to watch their few planes and helicopters. For 56,000 people, they seem to have a lot of traffic. Of course most of their little towns can not be reached by roads, so boat and plane is their option ... or skidoo.
I do wonder where they get the money to survive. We probably pay them some for our base, even though they get our defense for free. They don't have much agriculture I'd guess, but do have fishing. Wiki "The economy of Greenland is characterized as small, mixed and vulnerable.[8] Greenland's economy consists of a large public sector and comprehensive[9] foreign trade. And I just want to say something really quick before we get to Frank: I have a 12-year-old son who, as he learns more about various kinds of dark chapters in American history, can get really down on this country. So I often find myself in the strange position of trying to talk up American greatness because I don’t want him to feel despair about the country that he’s growing up in. It’s occurred to me that every single thing that I have pointed out to him as a sign of American greatness or goodness, whether that be foreign aid, whether that be our support for Ukraine, our success in welcoming immigrants and refugees, or scientific pre-eminence, everything that I thought was best about America Trump has either destroyed or tried to destroy in less than two months.

President Trump is doing what he does best and staying inside EVERYONES ODAP loop ...
they are all reacting to his moves and as soon as they react he changes course again ... all with and end state in mind ... he's just waiting for them to "adjust" to the position he wants them in and then he'll stop the rapid moves and fly straight ... Stacy Abrams also headed an NGO that recieved 10.5 million of that money just to study why Greenland's Oceanides "taste just like chicken."
