Loved nat-gas living in B'More.
Here in Summerville, the January ( Coldest month) average low is 38 degrees. That is well within the range for a good heat-pump to put out sufficient heat to not require supplemental heat strips to come on. And in theory anyhow, should be damn near as efficient as gas, overall cost wise. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at March 10, 2025 04:39 AM (a1415) 27

I have a Carrier gas furnace from the 80s. Recently it wouldn't come on. A friend of a friend who is an HVAC technician came by and diagnosed the fault was the original ampule filled with Mercury thermostat. Yay. $50 at Lowe's for a basic bimetallic replacement, four colored wires, and we're back in business.
Of course, I thought the worst and figured it would be mega $ for a new furnace. He casually replied "No. That thing will outlive both of us." Posted by: Quarter Twenty at March 10, 2025 06:15 AM (dg+HA) 58
