THE MORNING RANT: Who Said It - National Review or Brian Stelter?

Stelter National Review.JPG

I’m traveling, so I’m just going to slap up a quick post, noting that the incessant sniping at president Trump from false flag conservatives the polite right sounds little different than Brian Stelter and other far-left partisans in the media right now.

The reason, of course, is that publications such as National Review and the Wall Street Journal now share the politics and the agenda of ABCNNBCBS and the NY Times. The only difference is in how they go about trying to protect the left-wing status quo against a Republican president actually implementing the conservative reforms that “Conservative Inc” once pretended to support.

One of these two quotes is from CNN’s Brian Stelter, the other is from National Review’s Jim Geraghty. Can you guess which one is which?

1) Geraghty or Stelter?

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which disburses funds to PBS and NPR stations, gets $535 million a year in federal funding. So any official who seriously wanted to achieve billions in cost savings would start elsewhere.

2) Geraghty or Stelter?

If you’re going to cut or preserve a particular USAID program, cut it or preserve it on the merits. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re reducing the deficit or controlling the debt in any significant way.

The answers are below the fold…

The first quote belongs to Brian Stelter, the second to Jim Geraghty, but they use the same protect-the-bureaucracy talking point that no individual spending cut or elimination of government agencies would be significant enough to matter, therefore the status quo should remain.

Al least Stelter is being intellectually consistent in his devotion to the leftwing bureaucratic establishment. By contrast, Geraghty is engaging in a dishonest distortion, pretending that the prevailing argument for gutting the corrupt and adversarial bureaucracy is for the purpose of reducing deficit spending.

John Daniel Davidson called Geraghty out on his sophistry.

Sean Davis is a little more blunt, pointing out the simple fact that Jim Geraghty and National Review are on the other team, pretending they are speaking for conservatives while they desperately try to preserve the Obama / Biden legacy.

This information was almost instantly censored from social media.

In my view, all the foundations are subverted organizations, they pretty much stopped representing the goals and views of their founders after they died. Look at Carnegie, Rockefeller, or Ford, and while you probably will disagree with them on a lot, they're not really all that similar in views to the people who run their foundations today.

The bureaucratic class might inhabit and run the organizations others started, but much like the universities, that had little to do with the intention of their founders.

Democrats spent one-and-a-half days cooking up a game plan for a comeback after a devastating loss against President Donald Trump last November...The gathering was organized by centrist Democratic think tank Third Way.

“Activist groups and progressive staffers push unpopular cultural positions, making it seem like Democrats are more extreme than they actually are,” they said, stressing the need to “reject fringe positions that alienate the median voter.”

The proposed solution was to build up the moderate Democratic base through “media, talent pipelines, and communications networks,”...and banning “far-left candidate questionnaires and refuse to participate in forums that create ideological purity tests.

“Democrats need to stop demonizing wealth and corporations broadly,” it read, urging the party to “be pro-aspiration & pro-capitalism in a smart way.”

At the same time, the summary recommended getting “out of elite circles and into real communities” like tailgates, gun shows, local restaurants, and churches as part of a bid to spotlight working-class voices.

Those tax cuts are in the budget bill. Basically a short term CR is needed to get from the approval of the House bill to the disagreement with the Senate over one or two reconciliation bills. Twill require a conference committee or for one House or the other to pass the other chamber's bill as is.

Senate passed a more narrow budget bill focusing on popular items like closing the border, etc. and the House passed a big one including all of the above.

284 If you're looking to cut, the USAID budget is actually significantly larger than the 1.5% of the total budget that the left keeps whining about. USAID is 1.5% of the total federal budget.

The total budget includes some important expenditures that can't be cut. So when you're talking about cutting the budget, it's not fair to look at the total budget, because some of that is necessary and important.

When talking about cutting, you have to look at what can be cut. If you look at just the useless fat in the budget, then USAID -- which is 99% useless fat -- makes up a higher percentage than just 1.5%.

This isn't about sticking it to Trump.

The entire worldwide Deep State apparatus is behind this war. They're all heavily invested politically, monetarily, diplomatically, in the outcome.

They have already promised people contracts for the rebuilding of Ukraine, for the gas pipelines, for the oil, for the farm land, etc. etc.

There are likely trillions of dollars at stake.

They do not plan on quietly letting Trump ruin that for them.

From a certain point of view . . . cutting NPR and USAID is reducing the deficit.

The policies NPR and USAID recipients advocate for require even more spending and thus actively contributes to the deficit or causes social and economic problems that indirectly contribute to the deficit through collateral spending and reduced wealth creation.

Therefore, cutting off the financing for the source of the counter-productive advocacy will have downstream effects, reducing the need for additional direct and indirect spending as well as improving the economy and thus revenues in general, therefore reducing the deficit and debt.

I saw a video of a couple tubby British female cops trying to arrest this wirey stoned guy.

He was so out of his gourd that at first he didn't know what they were doing but as they got his arms behind him to handcuff him you could see understanding in his face.

So he turned around, pushed each cop away with one arm and looked at them. When they stepped back forward he turned and jogged away. The cops followed him for maybe 10 steps but then both had to stop for a breather.

It was the most Euro police enforcement video one could imagine

They pooh pooh the idea of budget cuts as minuscule related to the debt and that is because they are full on for cutting entitlements first which is a suicidal political position (which might be why they are in favor of it). In order to get the general public behind cuts in Social Security and Medicare along with perhaps Medicaid, essentially you have to demonstrate that you have cut everything else to the bone and now despite that, we have a big deficit that has to be tackled in those entitlement programs. That means all upper class twit amusements like PBS or the international meddling 'soft power' of AID have to be sacrificed first before turning to the popular programs. Social Security fix is relatively easy and that is to kick off illegals, etc. from rolls, extend the retirement age to 70, etc. that will put off problems fiscally until 2070 or so from it. Medicare and Medicaid are tougher nuts and that means tax increases and/or benefit cuts.

I don't think Russia intends to occupy anything other than the part of Ukraine that was full of ethnic Russians, which they already occupy.

I don't think they expect an Afghan-style counter-insurgency among the population who voted to join the Russian Federation after being ethnically cleansed by the Ukrainians.

The parts of Ukraine occupied by Russia have been trying to separate from Ukraine and been sporadically attacked by Ukraine leading up to the war. The population is ethnically Russian.

Russia has here largely avoided trying to seize territories that would present a difficult occupation.

Russia is a nuclear power capable of serious mischief and blowback to the US and we are shoving them into the arms of the Chinese.

They were enraged when Russia stopped letting homosexual men "adopt" boys from that country. Then the Russian government keeps promoting culturally traditional Christian ideas and policies.

510 Salty Dog, KU basketball has become embarrassing. It's like the football and basketball teams have traded places. I think Manhattan is a better place to live than Lawrence! I used to be a Cowboys fan when I lived in Fort Worth right after graduation, but remain a Chiefs fan now. I'm so old, I was in school when Len Dawson was not only the Chiefs quarterback, but also the sportscaster on the KC ABC station.

511 If we're paying for the war, we're definitely going to get something out of it other than a bunch of military industrial complex people getting rich.

I saw some screeching about how we're setting it up so that the USA won't help without getting something in return.

Yeah. I'm fine with that. Next problem?

I would put it when Russia banned exporting its orphans to gay Americans plus the 2014 retaking of Crimea after the Color Revolution there.

Deep State mobilized the lefties to try to keep what they gained thru subterfuge and used the saps on the left as NPCs to do the political op against Trump by smearing him as a Russian asset. Win win. Keeps Trump from reversing Ukraine decisions and makes him ripe for the Biden coup in 2020 (sham impeachment anyone at a critical time of Covid blossoming?)

520 476 The part I can't work out is why Trump understands it is not in our interest or constitutional authority to send money to Ukraine but he wants to keep pouring hundreds of millions into Israel. I sympathize with Israel as well but both are wrong in my eyes. And under the constitution. Israel can stand alone too.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 03, 2025 12:25 PM (2VST1)

Trump is trying to get each region of the globe to have an American aligned(or at least reasonably friendly) coalition running it.

Europe is the most capable of independent action and least important to the existing American empire.

The Middle East is the last capable of managing its own affairs(mostly a diplomatic problem within the proposed American coalition) and the most important (oil, particularly Saudi Arabia).

Asia is kind of in between. Korea is already militarized, Japan needs some work, India has some stuff, etc. They're also all predisposed to work against China.

Ukraine is more pressing at the moment though.

It's only been in the last few years that I've really accepted the fact that there are people among us who truly would sell their own grandmothers for $1,000, or in this case, send hundreds of thousands of people to die just so they can be personally enriched.

Sounds naive, I know.

One year when I was at DLI, for our annual post-Tailhook sexual-harassment training, we made a video in which I played a sexual harasser and got punished for it. One of my favorite roles.

537 The Wall Street Journal is run by Leftist, Marxist women. It took awhile, but now it is firmly in the hands of the chicks. As you know, it matters little who is in charge if all the women in HR are Marxist Democrats. So is the case of the WSJ, whose staff was Leftist to begin with. But they got away with pawning the Russian Collusion Fraud on their subscribers, and now they prohibit any dissent from the Leftist dogma.
