And I'm gonna assume that because nobody in the media wants to answer, or even ask the question if they are a contributing factor.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at February 28, 2025 04:46 AM (mWSu4)

Trust is built on trust. Once someone breaks that trust, it becomes very hard to not be suspicious of them on other things.

This was always the argument in my mind on Clinton. It is not the infidelity per se, but if you are willing to brazenly lie about one thing, well what else are you willing to lie about?

Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 28, 2025 04:57 AM (bss/y)

25 "I am 100% supportive of traditional vaccines and I am still suspicious as hell of anything they say."

Pretty much my position as well.

So theoretically, if one were to introduce an infected individual into a general area with lower vaccine rates, something exactly like this would occur.

Then the question would become, who was patient zero?

Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 28, 2025 04:58 AM (a1415)

26 "Trust is built on trust. Once someone breaks that trust, it becomes very hard to not be suspicious of them on other things."

Yup.

And it now permeates every interaction that I have with politicians and media. As well as my Doctors.

So when I hear the media bleating about how Donald Trump is flailing with the American people, I ask myself, is this the same media that told me that Joe Biden was healthy, and that men could get pregnant?

And when it comes to medical, both Mrs VIA and I came down with Covid about a month ago.

Felt more like a head cold, with 6 hours of slightly elevated body temp, and a total of three days from start to finish.

When my wife popped positive on a home test and spoke with the online nurse, not one question was asked about vaccine status. And she was basically told to do exactly what she was doing as far as rest and fluids, and not to worry.

And during my last VA physical, my Doctor asked my vaccine status, and I told him I had no interest in the vaccine.

His reply was that he wasn't getting it either.

So yes, bridges once burned are hard to cross back into the territory of 'Trusted'.

50 The last day or so has been kind of stressful.
Number One offspring started his career as a federal employee on December 2nd.
It's a goal he's had for years and worked very hard to achieve it. He got a master's degree, targeting the right courses he knew the particular agency would want. He worked at a grocery store to pay for it and graduated last May with no debt. He applied to all the places he figured no one else would want. He got two offers and turned down Guam.
The one he took is, well, a long way away and he uprooted his entire life to do this. So with less than three months on the job he's a probationary employee.
Yesterday was the RIF and the only two individuals affected in his building were administrative assistants.
Whew.
What a relief.

Probably if you go thru some gyrations to make it work. Going to 10 should be easy enough though.

I'd never heard of Pop! before. What I know about Mint (Legal disclaimer: Not much beyond what I've read on their website) it's a lot more user friendly.

10 will be viable for a couple more years. It depends on what they are going to do with it. If it's going to be something mundane like displaying scores for the music director, it will be fine.

104 I wonder if (unmarried) men and women have the same motivation to donate after 50+?

-

FWIW, I'd suggest that we'd do a LOT more to help society, and young women in particular, if we addressed these topics realistically instead of attacking each other for wanting to discuss them.

I personally think helping society, and women in general, should certainly be a goal. The reason even mundane observations seem so offensive is the topic has been off limits with ever-increasing "equality". Which is odd to consider.

Similar to environmentalists and vegans filling the God shaped hole in their hearts with their own fetishes.

Donating a kidney to a stranger is awesome. If you'll reread my initial comment, I'm more curious if UNMARRIED people donate to strangers at the same rate. I doubt they do because they want to either keep it in the bank if the family members need it later, or they're already fulfilled by having children.

But yes, my hypothesis is that the motivation is different. It's as sound as any other hypothesis because we know that the sexes are wildly different.

Good morning, Hordians.

Finished ripping all the CDs of the Bruckner symphonies to FLAC files. Sort of an embarrassment of riches; Bruckner wrote 11 symphonies and I had 27 different recordings.

Part of the reason is that so many of them exist in different versions, Bruckner being a lifelong tinkerer with his works. So, for the Third, I had one recording of the original 1873 version (Tintner), one of the 1877 version (Haitink) and of the final 1889 version (Szell). Of the Eighth, there's the 1887 version (Inbal) and two editions of the 1890 version, one by Robert Haas (Karajan, Boulez, Jochum) and one by Leopold Novak (Solti).

I doubt it. That's the problem. Who wants a thousand CDs of classical music nowadays?

Same thing with my books. I'm looking to downsize my library, but what do I do with them? And we're not talking about James Patterson and romance novel stuff. Like, a complete edition of Balzac's novels or Samuel Eliot Morison's History of US Naval Operations in World War II, in 15 volumes.

It's free PR. You can't compile them yourself because you can't find the compilers any more, the source doesn't contain the build and packaging instructions, and you can't make your own C&C from it because the license doesn't apply to anything trademarked or copyrighted, like the art assets. Which you can't read anyway because they're stored in an undocumented binary format.
