Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Coffee, Tea or ONT?Hello everyone! Welcome to the ONT. Say, did you see this? ![]() RIP Gene Hackman Gene Hackman Takes Everything Hollywood Ever Was and Ever Will Be With HimGene Hackman is a character actor. We say that sometimes and it doesn’t seem to mean much. It’s code for they could never play lead, or they weren’t attractive enough to become movie stars. But in Gene Hackman’s case it means he could play anything. He could be tough and cruel. He could be evil. He could be funny. He could be tender and sweet. Never has an actor done so much with what one might describe ordinary looks. I never felt that way. I always had a crush on Gene Hackman. All it took was just one look in Woody Allen’s Another Woman and I’ve been in love with him much of my adult life. Why Gene Hackman, people have always asked me. I don’t know why. He has what the Talking Heads would call a face with a view. He contains multitudes.Gene Hackman passed away today. Weird circumstances too, I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened? Brilliant actor. Never saw him in a role where he wasn't stellar. Friendly Fire The Fall of the USS Gettysburg At around 0300, on Sunday, 22 December, the Aegis cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64) shot down an F/A-18F preparing to land on USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75) while operating in the Red Sea. The Carrier Strike Group to which each of these units was assigned was an element of the U.S.-led Operation Prosperity Guardian, assigned to protect Red Sea merchant traffic from Yemen-based Houthi attacks. First, we all need to understand that there is only one man who knows what happened on that day, and that is the commanding officer of Gettysburg. Apart from the F/A-18F crew, which possesses a very small but critical piece of the puzzle, everyone else is just an observer, a post-exercise armchair quarterback. Having said that, while Gettysburg’s captain knows what happened in terms of the detailed, incredibly complex sequence of events, unless the failure was the result of discrete, identifiable human error, he may not, in the immediate aftermath, understand why certain things did happen. For example, if systems or off-ship persons failed to operate as advertised, he wouldn’t know exactly why those systems or persons failed. That level of detail may only be revealed in the post-mortem.The author commanded 3 Aegis cruisers in his career, so I'm going to assume he knows what he's talking about. Filth — ONT WTF (@OntWtf) February 28, 2025 The Most Important Meeting in the History of the World That Never Happened There was a brief moment in Spring 2020, just a few days into “15 Days to Slow the Spread,” when we had a chance to change our trajectory. A distinct inflection point where if we had done just one thing differently, and caught the crazy COVID coaster before it got locked in its tracks, things could have turned out very differently over these last three plus years. An interesting read on the response to COVID. Civilian Response A small seafood restaurant turns into a national donation hub for LA fire victims Lauren and Andrew Gruel, the husband-and-wife owners of a seafood restaurant in a Southern California surf town, are used to thinking local. Most of the seafood served up in their Huntington Beach restaurant Calico Fish House is sourced from fishers in the area. This week, that local ethos has stretched a bit further. About an hour's drive south of the Palisades and the Eaton Fires are raging in Los Angeles, the Gruels have set up their small business to double as a wildfire relief hub. From there, they've been coordinating efforts to get donated goods hauled to their neighbors up north.Chef Gruel is very active on social media, the scenes from his restaurant (Calico Fish House, in Orange county on the PCH. If you're in the area, you should go, the food looks amazing) were inspirational. Really, the civilian response, not just to the Palisades fire but also to Eastern North Carolina, have been nothing short of amazing. We have a friend who let it be known “I'm taking supplies to NC, send me what you can”. My wife, being active in knitting circles, collected dozens of donated, hand-knit, scarves, hats and gloves and sent them along. No FEMA. No Government. Just Americans helping in a time of need. As it should be. The War At Home How Trump can dismantle the imperial judiciary once and for all When Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 78 that the Supreme Court would wield “neither force nor will” over politics, he never envisioned the judiciary having the final say on every political decision in the country. Now imagine his reaction if he were told during the American Revolution that, in the future, a single lower-court judge could unilaterally grant citizenship to illegal immigrants’ children, override the will of elected branches, and even force the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to maintain information about transgenderism on its website. He might have preferred staying under King George’s thumb.SCOTUS needs to slap down these rogue courts. Tonight's ONT has been brought to you by beer: Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Victor X @VictorCarlstrom Listen very carefully now America 🚨 In 2021 and in support of international law, I gave the order to a private army from South America to fly in from Venezuela to Sweden and wipe out its corrupt leadership and get out quickly. The mission would have been accomplished within hours, at a total cost of $16 million. Some of it is documented on my Instagram. My point is, you don't, and will never have people in America taking the game to my level. It will just never happen, I eat weak crying boys like #AndrewTate and #WesWatson for lunch. My late brother the commander of the Wagner Group #YevgenyPrigozhin played at my level. Now, I am Prigozhin on the world stage. The deal was that Sweden had so severely violated eight of my human rights, so l acted under the Private Military and Security Companies (PMSCs), supported by International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and additional protocols from the Geneva Convention, to respond in self-defense in an emergency situation. Sadly, in the end the order was rejected by one of my lawyers, Lawrence Schoenbach. The most badass lawyer on Wall Street for the last 40 years... When Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 78 that the Supreme Court would wield “neither force nor will” over politics, he never envisioned the judiciary having the final say on every political decision in the country.
We tend to give the Federalists too much credit. Pretty much anyone could foresee that a branch of government whose confirmed appointees have life tenure subject only to impeachment would have members who would exercise will rather than judgment. It's a problem baked into this kind of arrangement. Of the three branches, the judiciary was the one least well thought out. Pretty much anyone could foresee that a branch of government whose confirmed appointees have life tenure subject only to impeachment would have members who would exercise will rather than judgment.

One thing the Euro governments have been ignoring for a while is that when you seize power and flout any sort of democract pretensions in how you gained and maintain power you do actually open yourself up to being replaced in a coup. How many Euros would rush out to the streets to defend Fred Merz or Emanuel Macron if someone positioned with a plan and armed men deposed them? Dad is doing better. He had some tests and scans today. He has double pneumonia and he has several small cysts on both kidneys and one huge cyst on one kidney that is pushing out his abdomen and causing bowel blockage. They were going to do surgery to remove the large cyst, but have decided to try treating with medication for now. I am assuming that is because of the pneumonia and not wanting to put him under in his current condition. I wish to counter with my version of..."Economic OUT BLACK." Berry Obama: Celebrity Net Worth has reported Barack and Michelle Obama’s net worth's $70 million. Not including the NETFLIX deal worth an estimated 50 million Not bad for a suck ass CIC community organizer. Maxine Waters has a net worth estimated to be between $620,000 and $10 million. Her wealth primarily comes from her extensive career in public service, as well as investments in real estate and financial institutions. Reverend Al Sharpton is an American civil rights activist and MSNBC commentator with a net worth of $8 million. He earns $1.5 million from MSNBC and $400K from radio shows. He also has a stock portfolio of $2.3 million. Not bad for a hack ambulance chasing low grade lawyer from NYC. Jasmine Crockett’s net worth grew substantially last year during the 2024 election. Based on Patel and Bondi's performance so far, it appears that what we have are yet the usual batch of feckless politicians who will freely gaslight We The People and end up protecting the Deep State.
• Patel's first act to lie about exiling agents to Alabama • Patel telling Trump and Musk to fuck-right-off w/r/t the What Did You Do Last Week email. • letting SDNY tell Trump and Bondi to fuck right off on the Epstein matter • gaslighting We The People about how wonderful and honorable the FBI is. • Bondi. Lying her ass off w/r/t to Epstein. • gaslighting We The People about renegade obstructors. Bongino is a fool for leaving his lucrative gig and throwing away his reputation by hanging out with these low lifes. The best we can hope for is that the DOJ/FBI will not J6 Trump supports and might make a feeble effort to do something about domestic terrorism Given the laid off DC Federales, the jury pool will be 100% in bed with Deep State and 100% against We The People. >>> SCOTUS needs to slap down these rogue courts.
Meh. A lot of people take an oath to support the Constitution. Intrinsic to that is not doing what is unconstitutional. Kind of a moot point considering that almost no INDIVIDUALS are in a position to act on that anyway. No matter strong their convictions. The Legislature? 535 total each get a slice of that decision. Or, at best, 100 Senators can balance/cancel the House's take. Each senator is 1/100th of 1/3rd. The Judicial? SCROTUS, a panel of nine can offset the whole of Legislature. Each Justice is 1/9th of 1/3rd. The Executive? El Presidente has the whole power of the Executive vested. 1/3rd. Constitutionally no one branch owns more than 1/3 of deciding what is "Constitutional'. Granted historically SCROTUS has been great deference. When wrong it has lead to civil war. A lot of people take an oath to support the Constitution.
Intrinsic to that is not doing what is unconstitutional. The problem seems to be that for almost everyone in politics, the Constitution is a highly malleable personal document that perfectly reflects the bearer's evolving and emotional values. Declaring everything I like "Constitutional" and everything I don't like as "Unconstitutional" is keeping the oath. I doubt anyone screaming about the Constitutionality of something has ever even read the Constitution. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at February 27, 2025 11:04 PM (a4flb) 237

The last day or so has been kind of stressful.
Number One offspring started his career as a federal employee on December 2nd. It's a goal he's had for years and worked very hard to achieve it. He got a master's degree, targeting the right courses he knew the particular agency would want. He worked at a grocery store to pay for it and graduated last May with no debt. He applied to all the places he figured no one else would want. He got two offers and turned down Guam. The one he took is, well, a long way away and he uprooted his entire life to do this. So with less than three months on the job he's a probationary employee. Today was the RIF and the only two individuals affected in his building were administrative assistants. Whew. What a relief. 200 The twitter is saying Roberts slapped down circuit courts. I hope it’s true
Posted by: Biggest Alfredo at February 27, 2025 10:47 PM (8cPKb) You can read Roberts' order here (remove spaces): https://x.com/kylenabecker/status/ 1894961470359957738 Posted by: RickZ ===== Technically, we have not had circuit courts since the 1890's. What we have are judicial circuits in which there are courts of appeals and federal district courts. What Roberts did was to issue a hold on a TRO (temporary restraining order) so that he can pass the issue up to the other justices. Each of the justices is assigned a circuit to supervise (historical reasons) and Roberts has the DC circuit--Court of Appeals and federal district courts there. The judges have been issuing TROs because they are not appealable to the Courts of Appeal normally as they are designed as very short term. In this case, they are being abused because once the money leaves the Treasury, it technically becomes 'property' of the contractor, etc. That implicates due process to get the money back. These judges could have just as easily issued a preliminary injunction after a hearing but that would mean it is appealable. Posted by: whig at February 27, 2025 11:23 PM (ctrM5) 315

"I'm thinking that is going to need to be enforced the way Don Corleone would enforce such an order."
Trump does seem to be on a mission to settle all the family business. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 28, 2025 03:20 AM (a1415) 529

Trump can afford the best, after all. Morning, insomaniacals. 'Tis Friday, the consummation devoutly to be wished. Da weekend is almost here! Well, today the tax returns arrive here, prepared by our tax firm, and presented for our signature.
I wonder what it's gonna look like this year. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at February 28, 2025 03:33 AM (a1415) 533
And it would appear that it is time to replace the entire HVAC system here at stately VIA Manor.
Strongly considering the Trane line of variable speed heat pumps paired with a full variable speed air handler for this two story , zoned system. Should qualify for the federal $2,000.00 tax credit as well, so that would offset the sting of a $22,000.00 buy-in price for the system by a little bit. @523. Yeah, I posted this back up at 96.. I will see what happens at 8am.
I wish people would stick with subjects that pertain to what is going on in the blog. If they are having personal problems there are prayer lines that are open. Time is wasted when 50 posts have nothing to do with what's being discussed. Ace has had this problem before and had to deal with it. This is not a platform for someone's personal troubles. No disrespect intended. Posted by: Case at February 28, 2025 03:38 AM (xcRXq) Posted by: JQ at February 28, 2025 03:43 AM (rdVOm) 537

Tryin' to decide, go work out, or skip it? It's 57 outside, humidity down, little wind. I think I just answered my question.

Wonder if that was a mistake" You trying to go to sleep, or wake up? Now t5hat I'm down to 1 cup of caffeinated coffee per day, I find that caffeine after mid day will really screw with my sleep patterns.
