Evening and morning, late toilers and early risers! 'Tis Woden's Day, and we will soon be half way along the winding, dusty trail that leads to the weekend.
I neither feel like working out nor like having a pipe this morning. Don't know why, as I slept about enough. The convo with the retirement counselor went well; I talk in about ten days with the fellow who can actually start the paperwork. As for the Gorgle Meet with the publisher, I couldn't get into the session and ended up just calling her by phone. It went well. She's enthusiastic about the book. And she seemed almost as if she were selling me on their handling my book; it was not a "Tell me why we should publish you" kind of thing. She's got to confer with her business partner, but sounds sanguine that she will love the story too. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 26, 2025 04:08 AM (omVj0) 10

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 26, 2025 04:08 AM (omVj0) Sounds good! She knows now you're not a female writer, correct? Good writing should trump identity. Posted by: OrangeEnt at February 26, 2025 04:13 AM (0eaVi) 13
OE, I didn't realize you were here! As I said above, she's enthusiastic and full of praise for the book, and she was on the same wavelength as I am about it kicking off a series. Points for me, that I told her I'd be fine on going to meet and talk with groups and helping to publicize the property. No advance, but she explained why, that they give their authors higher royalties than some in the business. The author, she says, is involved in each step of producing the book, too.
She hopes, if her partner agrees, to send me a draft contract in the next couple of weeks. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 26, 2025 04:13 AM (omVj0) 14
Yes, she did not seem surprised that I was not a woman. No doubt she searched the 'Net for my pen name, hit my Amazon page, and saw my picture. No babble from her about identity or any such garbage.
They are trying to expand their line, to do more mystery and thrillers and fantasy. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 26, 2025 04:15 AM (omVj0) 15

Yeah, see Skip's posts.... Maybe they're trying not to be as "left" field as they seem. If something's really good, only an idiot would pass on a project because of who wrote it. As someone once said, nothing human is foreign to me. Posted by: OrangeEnt at February 26, 2025 04:19 AM (0eaVi) 18

Meanwhile the two Americans who recently visited Perth and posted a YouTube video went to Adelaide. About the only thing I can find wrong with Australia, besides the snakes, salt water crocodiles, and Communists running the government, is everybody drives on the wrong side of the road. Even the alleys are clean and free of homeless people shooting up fentanyl.
I am beginning to think it sort like the US but without the need for a sidewalk poop app. Still, to be honest I am pretty disappointed to find out the Mad Max movies are not a documentaries. What a lovely country. https://youtu.be/D-sCCpxDvJE Posted by: Altaria Pilgram - My President has convictions at February 26, 2025 04:25 AM (ch61N) 20

At work today, I have to continue doing battle with the dragon called The Budget. And I found last night that leaving early does not guarantee a swift short ride home -- not with Mawdi Graw seizing the city in its jaws. Took me an hour yesterday, and that was with my forcing my car into lines and using the HOV lane to come home (Linda was with me, so that was not illegal). There's a high school just up the street, too. From three to four p.m., there's a flood of cars and a crossing guard holding up traffic as well. So there is no point in my leaving before four.
This is the last time I'll have to deal with the MG crap, so there's that. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 26, 2025 04:34 AM (omVj0) 25

They are selling mostly online, ebooks and Kindle versions, I think. She tells me they invest some $20K in developing each property and getting it to market. No money ever is asked of the writer -- their website says so too. If it hadn't, I wouldn't have submitted to them. So they do things like a trad publisher. A lot of smaller publishers work the same way: no cost to the author, things like that. I think taking the marketing and sales into your own hands is probably the thing you need to do with a smaller pub. Although, I've heard of major houses doing very little for their writers except printing the book. Posted by: OrangeEnt at February 26, 2025 04:44 AM (0eaVi) 31

34 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a chance of going up to near 50, which would be nice. One of my pups went outside and chased a skunk. Walked in, it's busy, but they have 10 windows, two of which are for photos. An amazing concept, all the windows were manned, so it was step right up. I could never understand that issuance of a temp license and mailing the real deal, but in PA's case it probably keeps a few people in Harrisburg working.

Not sure what Mardi Gras is except drunken douchebags yelling at drunken THOTs, "Show us your tits!"
People could save a lot of money by sitting at home, getting drunk, and yelling "show us your tits" at their computer screen. Eventually some OF girl will make a MG video so you can relive the debauchery all year. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at February 26, 2025 06:44 AM (ExV1e) 79

I asked Chat GPT how to do something in Powershell and it gave me a command with a flag to do exactly what I wanted. Great!
Except the flag did not exist. Had never been a part of the syntax of the command. Well, okay, thanks for that. I asked Grok3 how to do something that I had been unable to Google. It provided me a clear and concise narrative restating what I had asked and the absolutely correct flags for a config file I was working on. Different questions. But also different experiences. In another installment of AI is awesome and scary, I'm ricing my Hyprland install and was watching a few videos on the tubes, a dude was showing his config it was, I don't know a couple of hundred lines of code, he didn't link to his configs, now I could of simply paused the video and copied the code myself, but we are in the age of AI, so I simply screen grabbed the sections of code, uploaded them to an AI and asked it to create the code from the screen grabs. It did this in about 20 seconds, some of the grabs had overlapping code, so it produced the overlapping code, I asked it to analyze the photos for overlapping code, and wouldn't you know it, it removed the overlapping code and the config worked like a dream.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at February 26, 2025 07:18 AM (e8fBW) Sadly, older women in Europe seem to be on the "demographic replacement" train. It's the chirrens who're voting to stop the madness. Further, from a purely utilitarian perspective, women outside the child-bearing years, absent some special skill, are unlikely to be a benefit to our country. History demonstrates that women are more likely to demand "social support" more than men. It's a bigger risk to grant entry to women, even if they profess conservative viewpoints. If we were considering permitting mass refugees from Europe then we need to do so with an eye toward how to help the US be better, not how to accelerate our descent into another failed super-state.
