Clearing Out My YouTube Watchlist Cafe

cochemcastleandtown.jpg
Cochem Castle
@pierrebrauer

I've been saving various cute videos on YouTube for a year. It's time to post them and delete the links.

The summer can't come quickly enough.

Fostering an orphaned baby otter.

A fluffy otter pup doesn't like the water yet.

Lion "kneads" like a kitty cat.

URGENT: It's not just bears. Now elephants are out-of-control, too!

And gorillas!

Now the lions are out of control. These bears have staged an insurrection of all of the big circus animals!

An oldie but a goodie: Tiny elephant calf charges at the camera.

Norbert the dog won't let his owners kiss each other without involving himself. More about Norbert here.

Rufus the Couch Kangaroo.

Crane knocks on the door every day and eventually brings his family along.

And a groundhog decides to adopt a human family.

Bat babies.

This K-Tel record is fire!

Bad news: UPS drivers don't give a shit, and will tap the doorbell and stick a note on your door when your personal teleporter doesn't get you down there in five seconds.

When I was in college in Tucson, a group of Music Students used to dress up like a Mariachi Band and randomly crash parties.
Never knew when it would happen, but you'd be at a party and suddenly a Mariachi Band would walk in and play like a 30 minute set of Mariachi Music. Then walk out.

Full regalia and everything.

Hysterical.

FedEx and UPS are pretty good where I am. Really, UPS is pretty great.

Post Office is bad. They cram packages that don’t fit into my mailbox, mangling the packaging, and making it so the door won’t close. Rain gets in, ruining mail. (Thankfully it’s all junk mail. Go USPS.)

When a package is too big, they actually drive up my driveway. I have a big, wide, covered porch at my front door, providing an excellent place to leave packages. That’s what FedEx and UPS use.

The only problem? You’d have to get out of the vehicle and walk twenty feet. That’s a non-starter for a government employee, so they just drive around behind my house where the garage is, leaving the packages in an uncovered area. Because that way they don’t have to leave the vehicle! So what if things are destroyed by rain? Not their problem!

USPS has a way to tell them where you’d like your packages delivered. This is ignored.

52 As a lifelong Republican and a career civil servant, let me just say that I support the *spirit* of what Trump and Musk are doing, just not the actual doing.

We have processes and procedures for dealing with requests in the civil service. Did Musk file Form 420-FU, Request to Initiate Email before his little blast to all Federal employees? Of course not!

All reviews of employee performance/showing up for the job/being not-dead/being a real human being and not just a free money glitch MUST go through the proper channels. All requests for employee performance metrics MUST undergo a two-month review.

That’s followed up by a MANDATORY review with a three-month period of comment. After that, the employee has 14 days to file an objection to the request, which must be expedited. A full review takes no more than a few weeks. Once it is cleared, the employee can provide a list of five things they did last week, should the choose.

Look, I respect Musk, but this isn’t sone Silicon Valley company where you can just expect orders to be carried out. We’re the Federal Government: we do IMPORTANT work!

Maybe best of all: she was a huge Trump fan. We’d chat sometimes and she was very keen, had a great sense of humor. At the time I lived in a major blue area. It was a nice neighborhood, but full of college professors. Every house but mine had a rainbow flag. I put up a Trump flag in 2016 just to rile them up.

She told me seeing my flag was the best part of working in that suburb. She carried a MAGA pen and had all of the libs sign for their packages with it. Hilarious gal.

Just a rough in-my-head add-up. Windows calculator has a "Time" setting, but it doesn't add, just converts, like, seconds to minutes and so on. Disappointing.

Found several equally-useless time "calculators" online. One lets you add two times together, but the result is not set up to add another time - tedious.

It used to be sleepy southern town with an interesting commie origin and and arty flair. Now it's a go to place for rich people to retire to. Hence, very expensive and catering to expensive people. They paved one of the softball fields and put in tennis and pickle ball courts. They dropped the speed limit to 25 in the city core to accommodate the golf carts. All the stores downtown are becoming boutiques.

Angela Rye -- a former CNN commentator -- calls for a boycott of MSNBC because they've fired Joy Reid:
“We’ve got to move with courage...We are gonna operationalize #TVOff. So, still #WeNeedJoy but also #TDR. Joy Reid won two NAACP Image Awards this week. Joy Reid has been an an award-winning journalist. She is brilliant. There’s nobody who can touch Joy and just because you find other people to put in a time slot who look just like Joy does not mean that that is Joy’s voice. So it’s #TVOff because we are. Boycotting MSNBC. We will not be watching. The final time we are watching MSNBC.
. . .TV is off, but we want historic ratings for tomorrow. We want to ensure that we are writing letters, sending emails, posting on social, telling people how much Joy Reid means to us, and we’re also letting people know that we have our own outlets. We have our own black media entities that we want to support and lift up. We’re not just about taking away, we’re giving you facts. We’re still gonna make sure that we keep those options open. Joy is gonna let you know on tomorrow’s show where you can find her.”

I'm not one of those who harps on this issue. I live in a purplish/bluish area (in Texas, but outside Houston, and have lived in worse, like Austin). But I'd leave if I felt like the place had gone to hell. I'm attached to very little and can't relate to the "this is my home" sentiment. Wherever I am is home. I've moved a lot.

Again, not a criticism really. I just can't relate.

are not on fire 24/7, and that the insane politics do not prevent day to day life from being wonderful.

175 Moving out of your comfort zone is not easy. You gotta mean it. Currently I am living in a motel and searching for an apartment while Mrs. Mahon is working on selling our house.

When we moved to Colorado, it was awesome: doubled my salary, the governor was a conservative, the mountains were awesome, Denver was a fun place to visit. It took about a decade for billionaire leftists like Pat Stryker to totally shit on everything.

So far I love Idaho. Can't wait for my wife to join me.

178 You don't win by ceding territory. You win by standing and fighting.

Trump didn't win because he took Florida and Texas. He won because he won the states most said were impossible because they were leftist shitholes.

I don't want to live in the Alamo. They all died.

Perfectly understandable! This is going to get me flamed, but Imma say it anway: there is nothing about Houston and the surrounding area that would cause me to want to stay, either! 😂

And if you're a person who moves a lot, for sure you wouldn't understand the concept. I kind of like to move around occasionally myself.

But I'm a total homebody, so I can relate to a certain extent, to the pull of "home"

And I live in a beautiful area, which makes it easy to stay!

Although I cannot tolerate the humidity any more and once my mama passes, I'm hoping I can talk Thor in to Idaho, Wyoming or Western Montana. The right part of Utah would probably suffice.

180 Where are you, one eyed Jack?

Generally speaking. Which ferry would
I take?
Posted by: nurse ratched at February 24, 2025 09:27 PM (mT+6a)

Ha. No where close to the west coast, but I took a picturesque vacation to Washington a while back and the beauty of the area really struck me. Mostly west of the Sound.
A day in the Streets of Seattle had me thinking how pretty it was from the heights of the Space Needle and how nasty it was at street level.

But I live in the Home of Cheese and Beer.

181 146 The first house I bought here in 1989, 3br 2ba two story box a couple of blocks east of the main street which was the dividing line from the old money west toward the bay, cost me $40K. I sold it 12 years later for $92K and thought I made out like a bandit.

It sold a year ago for north of $500K. Kids who grew up in this town can't afford to live here and I think that is a badish thing.

It’s gotten a little nuts for sure, but maybe it’s slowing down a hair? I don’t have people knocking on my door asking if I would sell anymore. I am using that as my barometer. 😂

182 When we left L.A., I desperately wanted to move to Colorado; lots of family there and we're both mountain lovers. But it was painfully obvious by the time I left California in 2011 that Colorado was lost.

No flame. I moved out of Houston to a surrounding area north . I like Texas and now I’m in a county that vote for Trump by a large margin. Winning. For now.

186 We've only lived in 3 states -- IL, MI and now IN. The first move was when we were young and it was the 80's, no jobs to be had near Chicago. Then 36 years in one house in MI, and it was kind of hard to leave our home where the kids grew up, etc, but our small town was being taken over by Ann Arborites who wanted to be away from AA but brought their politics with them. Now we live near our grandkids and see them almost every day. We haven't looked back since moving here, 5 years now.

Wow! There would be enough room to have my whole library of books, LPs, various forms of audio and computer magnetic media, DVDs, and 78s, and still have enough wall space to hang all my art and family pix.

I also think about the cleaning staff needed, the poor lighting, the poor plumbing, the cold, the damp, the mold, and how the damp and mold would destroy all the aforementioned media library.

And ghosts.
