Trump Names New Deputy Director of the FBI

Good get.

I have to imagine that Bongino was making a lot more with his podcasting venture than he'll make as a Deputy FBI Director. He's taking a paycut to do the right thing.

President Donald Trump has appointed former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator Dan Bongino as Deputy Director of the FBI. The announcement, made on Truth Social, highlights Bongino's law enforcement background and commitment to justice.

Key Details:

Bongino, a former NYPD officer and Secret Service agent, will serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.

Trump praised Bongino's credentials, including his graduate degrees and successful podcasting career.

He expressed gratitude to Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director Patel for the opportunity.

Diving Deeper:

President Donald Trump has tapped Dan Bongino, a former Secret Service agent and prominent conservative commentator, to serve as Deputy Director of the FBI. The announcement, made via Trump's Truth Social account, underscores Trump's commitment to reshaping federal law enforcement under his administration.

"Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel," Trump wrote. He lauded Bongino's extensive background, which includes service in the New York Police Department, the U.S. Secret Service, and his rise as one of the most influential conservative voices in media.

...

With Patel at the helm of the FBI and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi now leading the Department of Justice, Trump has assembled a leadership team determined to restore "fairness, justice, law, and order" to federal law enforcement. The appointments mark a decisive shift away from what Trump and his allies have long decried as politicization within the intelligence community.

Jonah is all sad!

So are his frenz at the NYT:

22 I actually kind of like this strategy of a celebrity cabinet.

It's much harder to buy off / control people who are already famous, already have a fan base or whatever, have a reputation they presumably care about, and already are wealthy.

There may be a stroke of genius here by Trump and his team. Yes, these people may not be loyal to Trump, but they're much more likely to be loyal to their own images / media personas then they will be to the deep state.

I guess we'll see how it plays out.

The funniest part of all this is we found out after Musk started looking into federal spending that the government was paying illegals to come...while those same people in fedgov argued there was no way to stop them.

Its like if Jonah Goldberg stopped paying men to rail his wife...maybe it wouldn't stop ALL of them but I bet it would stop many.

Depends how you define fraud.

If you're defining fraud as "people taking money from the fedgov under false pretenses and spending that money on something else", then fraud doesn't seem like the worlds biggest problem.

If you're defining fraud as "our government lying to us about what they're spending money on, and sending money to NGO groups with the goals of destroying the country", then yeah fraud is a huge fucking problem.

Like most thing, it comes down to definitions.

98 80 If you're defining fraud as "people taking money from the fedgov under false pretenses and spending that money on something else", then fraud doesn't seem like the worlds biggest problem.

If you're defining fraud as "our government lying to us about what they're spending money on, and sending money to NGO groups with the goals of destroying the country", then yeah fraud is a huge fucking problem.

Like most thing, it comes down to definitions.

Real backstory? There is nothing in the constitution authorizing federal law enforcement.

So for a long time, the only gun-carrying civilian force of any size that the feds had were the treasury inspectors who were supposed to bust counterfeiters.

And it made sense to let those guys also do some protective detail work. And, like any good bureaucracy, it continued to grow and mission creep and all of that. After 911, got moved to the new DHS from Treasury, and... here we are.

Exactly. I guarantee we will get some frustrating exchanges that go something like:

"Is it true that your agency paid over $300 million to help illegals cross in to the US?"
"Well, Senator, NGO's apply for grants, and goes through a rigorous approval process, then that money is to be used for that specific purpose. In this case, the money was for transportation, housing, and feeding undocumented people present in our country."
"So is it not fraud that taxpayer money was used to smuggle millions of people in to the country?"
"No, we audited the funds and the money was used how they said it would be used in their grant application. There was no fraud."

We will hear that kind of thing over and over and over again. And the media will report that the experts found no fraud.

Ultimately, there is obviously no real legal argument about whether or not the President, as head of the Executive branch, is allowed to audit the books of the executive branch.

Obviously he can.

So yeah, I tend to agree -- this is all theater. No one expects this to go anywhere. Some well-connected judges have and will continue to issue TRO's, but it won't materially affect the outcome of DOGE's audits.

183 166 Lincoln couldn’t wage total war without “Greenbacks”, aka funny money. War always destroys sound economics. Always.

I suppose it makes sense, in a way, to have the security detail cover both assassination prevention, and ensure nobody else benefits from printing “money” out of thin air. Ft. Knox was constructed, you’ll recall, via executive order because Americans were “hoarding” coinage.

Melting them down into bars keeping them yerself, that is not “hoarding”. I guess. FDR said so.

330 Patel is who chose Bongino, with Trump's approval, I'm sure.

Bongino was not too bad a fill in for Rush when Rush was still with us, but his own show became unlistenable for me. As someone upthread said, too much talking to the producer and teasing what big story he would break in the next hour, then he might get to it the hour after that.

But Rush had him fill in because he was at that time, a former SS agent who was originally on treasury, counterfeit detail for his first few years after his decade as a NYC cop, and then was assigned to presidential details. His information on Hunter's 127 bank alerts to the IRS was quite enlightening. He has experience working with these other agencies in his professional career and knows how all this is supposed to work. He will be extremely useful to Patel and will also be the organizer for the FBI to restart that agency after clearing out the criminals in it.

It is clear that the Vatican and the Bergoglian deep church are in a panic and will do everything to gather the consensus of the Cardinals together around the name of someone who will continue the Bergoglian revolution. Yes, intimate knowledge of COBOL is necessary to sit at a terminal and tell the system to "take all records and dump them to a txt or csv file."

And, the people saying this are also shooting themselves in the foot because if the system is producing erroneous results from what should be a pretty straightforward operation, then the system is seriously broken and needs to be scrapped ASAP.

The argument was that in 1988 COBOL started including a standard that a date field with no valid value would read as being in 1875.

From here the argument is the Musk is dumb because he didn't know that those people aren't 150 years old, they just had invalid birth dates. In a system where eligibility is based on birth dates.

The SSA database dates back to the late 1960s when COBOL didn't have a dedicated date field and isn't subject to that standard, and Elon revealed that there are people much older than 150 in the database.

The simplest answer of course would be to just stop spending so much money.

But if Trump constrains these sort of checks only to people paying taxes it would be rewarding HIS voters which is smart politics.

When leftwingers get elected they go on a spending orgy that goes to their voters. Righwing pols should look at this and do the same thing. The one problem of course is the money is coming FROM the taxpayers, so I'm really hoping Trump also has a slate of draconian taxes that will hit leftists/blue staters coming up.

469 Smoke in the plane? Choking gasping?

Mentour Pilot just had a video on a 'problem' with the new generation jet engines.

They have bigger and fewer turbine blades. If one blade breaks that means the engine is out of balance.

A new automatic system was introduced but not put in the manuals that reduces the vibrations from an out of balance engine. But the kicker is this system will inject oil into the engine BEFORE the intakes for the A/C packs.

As a result. depending upon engine, will inject smoke into the cabin or cockpit. Poisonous smoke that could incapacitate a flight crew in 39 seconds.
