Maybe you are ready to wind down and hang out with us here on tonight's ONT. There's a mixed bag of fun and interesting stuff waiting for you. Come on in and join the conversation!
The former host of “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” broke down in tears as she recalled the incident on a podcast appearance earlier this month. Gifford was set to host the Miss America pageant that year in Atlantic City, when she said her late husband Frank Gifford got a call from the FBI. “They said, ‘Mr. Gifford, we have a problem. There’s this guy. This is a very, very bad human being … And he’s coming to get your wife,” she shared during a Feb. 6 interview on “The Sage Steele Show.” Gifford, 71, said the FBI told her husband the family shouldn’t change their plans so as not to tip off the stalker. But her husband was leery. Gifford said unbeknownst to her, her husband made a call to Trump, who then owned the Miss America franchise, to tell her about the unsettling news he’d just received. “Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls,” Trump told Gifford’s husband, referring to Gifford and her 6-week old daughter. *** The morning of the pageant, she went down to the hotel lobby to buy a paper. She was stunned by the headline. “It says Daily News — Kathy Lee Gifford, death threat,” she recalls. That’s when she put the pieces together.Read the whole thing. Very interesting. Funny clip of DJT on SNL several years ago.
![]() New Hampshire Was the First Colony to Grow Potatoes New Hampshire was the first of the American colonies to form an independent government, as well as the first colony to have a state constitution. Yet it’s the humble potato that might be the Granite State’s biggest contribution to American history. *** Connecticut’s Royal Charter Was Hidden in a Tree In 1662, the Colony of Connecticut was granted a royal charter by England’s King Charles II. But in 1686, King James II, after taking the throne following his brother’s death, decided he wanted the royal charters returned so he could establish the Dominion of New England... ...Legend has it that while the matter was being debated in Hartford between the royal governor and the colonists, the candles in the meeting hall suddenly went out. Under cover of darkness, the royal charter was spirited away by colonial captain Joseph Wadsworth and hidden in the trunk of a nearby white oak tree. *** South Carolina Had a Booming Indigo Trade South Carolina was the first of the colonies to successfully grow indigo — a crop so vital to the colony’s economy that it was referred to as “blue gold.” Indigo’s production, and subsequent success in the colonies, is attributed to teenager Eliza Lucas (later Eliza Pinckney), whose father shipped indigo seeds to America from Antigua in the 1730s. Her father also hired Nicholas Cromwell, a dye-making expert from Montserrat, to guide her. Cromwell was caught sabotaging the dye-making process and was dismissed, only to be replaced by his brother Patrick, who was also caught sabotaging Lucas’ production efforts.More at the link. Despite the development of potentially more efficient keyboard layouts — most prominently the Dvorak layout, designed in the 1930s, which is supposed to be faster and more comfortable…
I've mentioned before, even recently, that I tried the Dvorak keyboard layout thanks to a driver for my first computer, the venerable Radio Shack Model I. After a brief learning curve, my years of QWERTY fluency quickly yielded and I could tell that, in time, I could be typing much faster on the Dvorak. But not all programs worked with the changed layout, being mapped to certain physical keys rather than their software equivalent. The handy ancient left-hand WordStar standards of ctrl keys for copy, cut, paste, etc., weren't as easy. Besides, to be totally comfortable with the rearrangment, I would have had to tape over the letters on the keys, or (hahaha) switch around all the keycaps (which we could do in those days when we wore onions on our belts). Now I just have trouble with the "shift" keys on my cell. Why would anyone move the exclamation point to the A from the 1 where the gods of the typewriter layouts intended? "One of the most enduring mythical creatures from the original colonies is the Jersey Devil, a terrifying beast said to stalk the forests of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens (also called the Pinelands). Different versions of the story exist, but all share a similar narrative: In 1735, a woman named Mother Leeds learned she was pregnant with her 13th child and cried out, “Let it be the devil!” She then gave birth to a monstrous “devil baby” who flew out the window into the forest."

Canada is an impudent second-tier client state and it's high damned time it was brought to heel. More to the point, it's unbefitting a world historical leader of Trump's stature to accept truculent insubordination from a worm like Freeland. Why won't Trump execute War Plan Red? Why, daddy? There are many times - 'ettes, as always, exempted - when I think repeal of the 19th Amendment would be the greatest thing we could do for this country.
Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh ==== Unanticipated knock-on effect was children being born duel-nationals.... Before the 19th women aquired the citizenship of the husband the same for their children. Sometime after the 19th (decades?) women got to keep their citizenship after marriage and also reclain it*. This idea that kids born in the US, or to one US parent, were always considered US citizens at birth is BS. *For those budding genealogiacs, the form/appliction for citizenship restoration was still published on *.gov as late as the year 2000. Clint Eastwood's 1993 film, A Perfect World, is on YouTube. Quick review. Kevin Costner has no idea how to talk like a Texan. Lara Dern was in her mouth open gawking at everything phase of acting, and Clint Eastwood was Clint Eastwood. Verdict: It's a Clint Eastwood movie which means it is like going to McDonald's for a Big Mac.

Foghat was terribly underrated in their day. On a great stereo system, playing Slow Ride or Fool for the City were nearly religious experiences. With Tequila in hand, of course. Posted by: Hatari Somewhere on Ventura Highway His work after Stray Cats is where the meat is found. His big bands were an astounding mix of swing and rock-a-billy. Over the years he would do a Christmas tour with the big band, always killer, and then in the summer with his quartet which was the borderline a mind blow. I always liked him, because my father played in the 50's, and years later when I was born my earliest memories was hearing him playing "that" type of music. He didn't seriously play again for a long time after my brother and I were born. One day in the early 80's I heard this dude on MTV and it immediately brought me back in time, and that dude was Brian Setzer. He sounded so much like my father that I called my brother into the room and said hey who does this guy sound like? My brother listens for like 10 seconds and says "the old man?" My father eventually got back into playing, he got about 20 years out of it and RA killed his fingers to where it got harder and harder to play. Now setzer is getting fucked. But they are fully subscribed; running at capacity. Some crude is shipped by rail; the only trucking I know of is retail amounts of refined product being shipped to markets in Montana, and maybe B.C. There has long been separatist sentiment in Alberta. We resent being milked like a cow for the benefit of Ontario and Quebec. The idea of union with the USA was never much considered, but I think it is now being contemplated by people who would have dismissed a year ago, even. Perhaps a preference cascade will happen.
