Sunday Overnight Open Thread - February 23, 2025 [Doof]

doof-snowkids.jpg

Howdy Hordelings, and welcome to the Sunday ONT! Hope your weekend has been great and you are ready to close out your evening with us here. Thanks for stopping by - shall we step inside?

***

Don't turn your attention away from hockey now!

The NHL season resumed this weekend after the very exciting Four Nations Face-off concluded on Thursday night. Congrats to team Canada on the win.

This afternoon, Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored 3 goals to put himself 13 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's record of 894 career regular season goals.

doof-Ovi13.jpg

Ovi is a big kid. His love for the game is infectious. Here he is being interviewed after today's game.

Connor McDavid, arguably the NHL's best current player, scorer of the OT goal on Thursday which won the Four Nations championship for Canada, poses with Ovi's kids after today's game.

doof-ovikids.jpg

Hockey is an incredible sport. Its players are among the toughest and most skilled athletes of any sport. Ovi's chase for the record adds a new level of excitement to this season. He's on pace to tie and break the record before the season ends. Don't sleep on hockey now!

New Upside Down House Opens – Take Fabulous Photos And Walk on the Ceiling

doof-Upside-Down-House.jpg

A quirky tourist attraction has popped up in another seaside town that lets visitors tour a building where all the furniture is flipped 180-degrees.

‘The Upside Down House’ in Bristol, England, is the 12th one to be erected—or should we say inverted—around the UK since the success of the first one opened in Bournemouth in 2018.

Painted in cheerful colors, the homes look like they’ve been flipped on their heads. With two floors of furniture attached to the ceilings, visitors might feel dizzy from the alternative perspective of life upside down.

***

There are plenty of places to take photos on the two floors, including a kitchen, living room, bedroom where striking fun poses can really take advantage of the anti-gravity views.

Paying guests walk on the ceiling as tables, chairs, beds, toilets and more hang above them.

Videos of the house at the link

17 Abp. V: What has been emerging in the United States since President Trump’s inauguration is only the tip of the iceberg of a vast subversive system that involves all Western states.

These are not isolated cases of corruption, but a planned occupation that the globalist Left considers indispensable in order to gain power and, once it has appropriated that power, use it for the establishment of a totalitarian regime. And what is paradoxical and at the same time unprecedented is that the Deep State even goes so far as to make its victims – that is, all of us – pay the costs of this infernal project, using taxpayers’ money to confine us in our homes, deprive us of our freedom, and exterminate us with wars, famines, pandemics, and vaccines.

In the same way, the Deep Church uses the offerings of the faithful to spread heresies, normalize vice and perversion, Islamize Christian nations, desecrate our churches and altars, and persecute dissenting voices with suspensions and excommunications. ...

Germany has fucked itself even more than with the Traffic Light, the most hated govt in the post-war the RINO-like CxU (CDU/CSU, the latter having something to do with Bavaria) couldn't even muster 30% against that.

And since AfD are Nazis, this gets them a Kenya coalition govt. Red, green, back. This is like the RINO GOPe joining up with the Dems with actual communists thrown in (and Green-tards) for extra measure.

In reality, the AfD is a center-right party from the '80s, we American right types would consider them social liberal squishes.

And they are Nazis according to the lunatic elite in Germany.

22 The Pittsburgh Penguins came out of the 4 Nations tourney break on a roll. They've lost two straight, got pummeled in both games, and in spite of the best efforts of future HoF'r Sid Crosby, they suck. The goal tenders are beach balls, defense is shaky, offense lethargic. Not a playoff team by any stretch right now.

No one seems to have taken note of the fact that Alice Weidel, the AfD leader, is not only a lesbian but in an active relationship with a Sri Lankan businesswoman. I believe they even have an adopted kid.

Under any other circumstances, those would be solidly woke credentials, even for Europe. But because she criticizes Islam and immigration, she's the second coming of Hitler.

AfD has always been strongest in the East, especially Thuringia and Saxony. I haven't had time to look at the electoral map, but for them to sweep the East (outside of Berlin, of course) would be quite an achievement; and is no doubt part of what lay behind Chancellor Scholz's comments earlier today, that such a vote total by the AfD was "unacceptable." I too have asked that question many times. As medical professionals, they are MANDATORY reporters.

Try googling "Planned Parenthood helps catch statutory rapist". When I do it, it comes back with zero results.

When a pregnant 14 y.o. walks into PP, in a state where that is below the age of consent, and there are no Romeo and Juliet exemptions, we know for certain that she has been raped.

The first thing that PP does is destroy the DNA evidence that would be critical in convicting the rapist.

158 "When I think of the kids, like the 12 year old girl that can't get an abortion...that's what really rips me apart" ⚞🤬⚟

First time I had any personal experience about abortion, I was 17, counseling a young girl who opened up to me about hers. She had been 12. The boy was older, from a fat-cat family, and was an ahole who bragged about it. She was the only child of a single, working, Catholic mom. The boy's family persuaded her to get a then-illegal literal kitchen-table abortion (by a real doctor, at least).

She was absolutely devastated, convinced she had committed murder. I was not very well prepared to counsel her, but tried to advise, she was young, forced, and it wasn't her choice, really. I'll never forget her sobbing.

She was on a scholarship to a prestigious school, and would have lost that and her future college chances, plus whatever awfulness the boy's family could bring down on her and her mom.

In another setting and time, with spiritual support and a good lawyer, she could have had the baby, continued her education, and received copious lifetime support from the evil boy's family. It was not like that then.

Such a terrible toll on that young girl.

I know you all think all government employees are shit, and I have to agree that a great many are, but I have my A-team and we do lots of very good work, saving taxpayer money daily. Unfortunately, we are being treated like crap, so odds are the only folks that will remain after the bloodbath are the idiots and schemers.

Good luck rooting them out. Once we are gone, so go the brains and motivation.

The interviewer wasn’t ready yet so he was just sitting there and me & the other girl were standing there thinking ok he’ll take a pic with us now. The interviewer flat out said go take a picture with those nice girls Dan! He literally rolled his eyes and made the most stank face & kept ignoring us. So we walked away. 174 The Germans held there parliamentary elections today. I watched several hours of the news coverage and without a doubt Felonious D was on their mind. I think sending JD to Munich a week or so before the elections to more or less announce that Europe Is on its own was timed to blow up the election. There were comments being made today like who was going to deal with Felonious D, that nobody knows how to deal with him, or that he's betrayed, Europe and Ukraine.

In the end, all the entrenched German parties banded together and announced that they would not form a coalition with the AfD, the most Germany first party, in spite of the fact that the AfD came in second by winning 20% of the vote. And just like that democracy was preserved. So I expect the Germans to get exactly what they deserve, more stabby Muslims, dependence on the Russians for energy, a stagnant economy in recession, and the realization that they own their own defense going forward. It's going to be a mess and I can't see the coalition sticking together for very long cuz they all I hate each other.

3. Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu (DRC, 65)

I've been trying to understand the Kraut electoral system. It's a fucking mess. They use something dubbed MMPR, mixed member proportional representation.

Each voter casts two votes. One for a candidate for their district (whatever the German word for that is), and then a second vote for a party. The total number of seats in the Bundestag is greater than the number of districts. The end result is to make the proportion of seats agree with the proportion of national votes. Then the individual states (Lander) come into that somehow.

This is a ridiculous mess. If it were by district seats alone, nearly the entire Bundestag would be CDU and AfD, with a smattering of the other idiots, mostly SPD. No Green won a single district seat, from what I see.

A casual review of the German election says there were only two possible results - the AfD gets to functionally 50% or they get the exact same policies they have now.

Yet someone most Germans went and voted for whatever party they voted for as a reaction to not liking the current policies. Its a fascinating look at the limits of people's ability to think outside of what their media is telling them.

So the "reasonable" conservatives get a big bump. And honestly, Merz isn't a terrible guy as far as Euro-pols go. But the group with the power will really be the Greens. So...exactly what they've got now.

221 The American system, well, absent fraud and the GOPe being controlled opposition for years, generally means most people get the government they want. You want to go right? You vote R. You want to go left? You vote D.

It isn't perfect by any means but...the voters mostly get what they want.

But parliamentary systems? Oh hell no. More then half of Germans voted to go right. They'll get a system that moves left at the CDU gives control to the Greens to stop AfD

The Kraut MMRP system:
https://tinyurl.com/hh55k5x

Scroll down to the Voting System section. Your eyes will glaze over.

I'm still trying to figure this out. There is a business of overhang seats. A party wins more direct districts than its share of the proportional vote. At one time, the system would then add "leveling seats" to achieve proportionality. That is award the other parties extra seats. Last time this lead to a Bundestag with over 700 seats. They changed it to limit Bundestag size.

So now, if a party wins more direct seats than their proportional vote share, they loose seats. A district winner would not be seated.

And this differs from the American system, which limits change by requiring a new amendment to add powers to the government - in Europe they've set up an over complicated system to allow the power brokers to make changes willy nilly

If you get into the crazy details of this lunatic MMRP system, there are several paradoxes which can arise.

One is that a party can lose seats if it gets more second votes. Or a party can gain seats if it loses second votes. IOW, a vote has a negative weight.

Such paradoxes are a feature of proportional representation systems.

We have such a method for allocating a fixed number of congressional seats amongst the states. This produces paradoxes. The "Alabama Paradox", the "New state paradox", and the "Population paradox". You can look those up if interested.

These arise from the problem of allocating only an integral, whole number of seats. Population fractions will not be integral numbers except by crazy blind luck, and you can't award fractional seats.

The history of congressional apportionment "algorithms" is interesting. This lunatic MMPR system got me off on the tangent. Thomas Jefferson pulled a fast one with this. Washington vetoed the first method, known as Hamilton's method. That makes the most sense (at first blush until you run into one of the paradoxes).

Jefferson came up a with different one that benefited larger states. Add up all the intergral number of seats each state gets. Now, you'll have some seats remaining, less than the total number of states remaining. The question is how to distribute those remaining "fractional" excess seats.

Jefferson pulled a sneaky on on that. They used that for decades, then switched to Hamilton's method.

Donald Trump just fired a significant portion of the senior military leadership, and I don’t think that the bloodletting is finished yet. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, the Chief of Naval Operations, the Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, as well as the JAG officers for all three branches. The reason? The press would have you believe that it’s simply politics as usual. However, there are media outlets reporting that it was much more serious than that. The story goes that they, along with portions of the FBI, were engaged in a mutiny against the President of the United States, which means that we were on the verge of an actual military coup. This is HUGE.

We don't use Hamilton's method anymore. They ran into the paradoxes, Alabama was the first (it happened before to some other state, but Alabama raised the biggest ruckus).

Congress, in the 1920's then appointed some mathematicians to study the problem. They came up with what is used now. The system still suffers paradoxes, but not as much. They proved a theorem about it.

245 The most fascinating part of the German election coverage was all seven candidates came in for a round table within an hour of first results being called. It was what I imagine vultures say to each other when they're sitting on a telephone line trying to decide what to do with the carcass on the road beneath them.

The SPD candidate (The equivalent of our Democrat party but with a lot more communism as near as I can tell) who got smoked couldn't make eye contact with AfD candidate when he announced there was not a chance in hell they were ever going to work with them. It was kind of breathtaking to see that level of naked animosity.

To be fair the SPD, which lost 10% points in this election, was outraged that they lost 10% in this election and couldn't believe that somebody stole their cheese which happened to be the AfD party which increased their share by 10%. SPD guy reminded me of Pelosi minus the saggy tits and far better teeth.

These major parties are completely clueless that there is sea change going on in the electorate and are still in the denial phase that this was a fluke.

And then there was Felonious D. I was kind of shocked at how much they were obsessed with him

That theorem is about the "quota rule". Say a states fraction of representatives comes out to say 9.546 out of 435. The quota rule says that state should get either 9 or 10 seats, either round up or down.

Now the theorem proved that any system that respects the quota rule will always have potential paradoxes. If you eliminate the paradox possibilities, you must chuck the quota rule.

The current system uses geometric means involving the upper and lower quota (that would be the geometric mean of 9 and 10 for the example above) to make decisions allocating the remainder of seats.

It respects the quota rule and thus still is subject to the paradox problem, but it minimizes the occurrence rate.

Peon's solution: if a State has enough population to merit there being 26 members of Congress for that State, start at the southern boundary, and based on Census data draw an East-West line of latitude such that 1/26 of the population lies South of that line. Straight, parallel lines only, no carve-outs, no monkey business. If the population equals 26.5 seats, round up to 27. If the population falls between 26.499 and 25.501, round to 26.

Only snag I can see is remembering to file income taxes for the ghost.

325 I got a tour of the San Francisco Federal Building around 2008. It was intended to consolidate a bunch of different agencies that were scattered around the Bay area in one spot. It was intentionally designed with almost no parking, to force the employees to take public transportation. Surprisingly, a lot of employees quit or transferred rather than commute into the heart of Wino Country. And this was before SF became the hellhole it is now.
It didn't help morale any when Nancy commandeered the top floor for her personal office, and reserved most of the parking for herself and her staff.

About once a decade +/- we have a really nice snow storm of 1-2 feet. Fun for the entire family!

Unfortunately, trees collapse, downing power lines and blocking streets. Last really major snowstorm in Jerusalem, about a decade ago, I accompanied medics to reach elderly couples who could not be reached by phone by their families. We went to their houses to offer hot food/drink and transportation elsewhere, if they wanted it.

Pretty much all the elderly were OK, heating up water and food on their gas ranges and returning to their beds where they were covered over with their super insolated heavy down quilts, the kind they don't make anymore.

We had no customers for evacuation.

Sorry, wrong about that -- had to re-read Eugyppius party primer on his Substack.

The outright communists are in the Bundestag, that's the Die Linke party. They got 8.5%. The BSW was some spoiler party created in East Germany to try to take votes away from the AfD in their regional elections.

But, since the BSW is out, that means the CDU doesn't have to take the commies in the coalition. It will be the CDU, SPD, and Greens coalition. A Kenya coalition minus the actual commies.

I predict no difference in pretty much anything.

That's my take after watching the coverage yesterday. The Greens will be the swing party and a general pain in the ass. The key thing is the other six parties conspired to keep the AfD locked out of the government. This is not going to play well with the 20% of the population that voted for them.

I looked up the demographic split for the AfD and and their support came pretty much equally from every demographic except for people 60 and older. This reeks with the Uniparty did to to Felonious D1.0. as we have since seen these situations can collapse and you end up with Felonious D. 2.0.
