The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

In just a few generations, Hollywood has descended into a self-referential malaise that treats itself as the arbiter of all things, and has contempt for the people who actually fund their activities. You know... the shrinking population of Americans who go to the movies. They insist upon making movies that do not engage their former customers, preferring to make us uncomfortable with an unending litany of leftist talking points. Gay is wonderful! Transexualism is even better! America sucks. White men are evil. Women are better at everything, and black and Hispanic women trump them all!

And that's just a short list. Gone are the days of even grudging respect for traditional American values...family, church, country are punch lines now. And with an entire industry untethered from its customers, and desperately pushing the most caustic, antisocial, anti-traditional themes possible, is it any wonder that we have the best actress award winner enthusiastic about....hookers?

Mikey Madison wins best actress for 'Anora'

"I also just want to, again, recognize and honor the sex worker community," she said. "I will continue to support and be an ally. All of the incredible people, the women, that I've had the privilege of meeting from that community have been one of the highlights of this entire incredible experience."

And not just enthusiastic. Supportive! Because being a "sex worker" (what a vile euphemism) in Hollywood's warped and twisted worldview is pretty much just like going to school and becoming a physician, or accountant, or doing the most important work on earth bearing and raising children.

We should honor them? How? Give awards for best alleyway BJ? Or maybe there should be two awards...one for quality and one for quantity. And maybe there should be a category for bestiality? Pulling trains? All the stuff that is most valued in women by Hollywood.

In a sane world in which women are actually respected, rather than considered only according to their genitalia and what they do with them, prostitution would be seen as a terrible consequence of lives gone wrong. Our culture would work to make prostitution -- an incredibly debasing life -- something to be shunned, and a life out of which we should help people.

Instead, Hollywood rejects objective morality and simple decency and revels in the degradation of our humanity. How else to continue their and their masters' work at the destruction of traditional American culture? But concurrent with that almost total detachment from their audience and their revenue stream is the increasing disinterest in their product. Most Americans don't much care about the politics of a bunch of rich, under-educated mimics who seem to think that because they are good at memorizing dialogue, their nasty opinions about the President and fascism and transgender lunacy are important -- and should be shoved down our throats at every opportunity. And don't forget Ukraine! The darling of every ignorant fool to walk that red carpet, unless they like Hamas more!

The movie industry is barrelling toward collapse, and they are too stupid to see it. Revenue has been down since 2019, and when corrected for inflation the numbers are even worse. Hopefully some of the slack will be taken up by small independent studios that will respond with a product that Americans actually want to see. But they will need to recognize the change that is in the air!

17 Interestingly, Ukrainians (some anyway) HATE Anora and it's wins because ... it glorifies Russians!

the best character in it is Igor who is played by a very very popular Russian actor. So just having him in a movie (and the Russian actor who played the young partying guy) is propaganda and Really Super Bad.

anyway idc I really liked both actors. the movie was ok-ish.

30 Joel Kotkin is one of the left's more reality-based commentators, but even he says stuff like this:

At a time when the world press is obsessed with US president Donald Trump and his often imbecilic machinations, perhaps a more consequential struggle is taking place on the other side of the aisle. Trump and his minions may completely control the GOP, but the future of the Democrats is uncertain. The party’s left is locked in battle with those who embrace the party’s traditional values, like support for economic growth and enforcing the law.

Hollywood rejects objective morality and simple decency and revels in the degradation of our humanity. How else to continue their and their masters' work at the destruction of traditional American culture? But concurrent with that almost total detachment from their audience and their revenue stream is the increasing disinterest in their product.

But, that doesn't mean there wouldn't be repercussions in such a circumstance.

But the common point in all these, these are mostly old ideas and people, not new Hollywood.

IIRC, Britain's nukes are largely American made.

No, not all of Britain's nuclear weapons are American made, but the United States is heavily involved in Britain's nuclear program. The UK's nuclear weapons are based on US designs and use US technology, materials, and personnel.

It's time for a national conversation on common sense millennial control, and that begins with the arrest and prosecution of dear leader, idiot queen AOC, and any other Soros run grifter politician that set an entire generation on a path to the destruction of this once great country.

If I firmly affix my tinfoil hat, I'd point out that Hollywood has long had a close relationship with US intelligence agencies going back at least as far as WWII where Hollywood was very much involved in helping the OSS and other intel agencies create and distribute US war propaganda.

There was also a heavy organized crime element in LA, but specifically, Hollywood, from the beginning of the industry.

So maybe, just maybe, the primary concern in Hollywood is not making money, but in pushing narratives and agendas. Propaganda that is not even primarily aimed at domestic audiences, but international audiences.

Maybe the people running these studios aren't as retarded as they look, they just know that their primary goal is not necessarily making movies and shows that entertain the american middle class (and thus selling well domestically and increasing the stock price).

A community of women who mostly came from broken, chaotic homes and who more often than not, were physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. These are the high-end escorts that are glamorized in movies but working the streets for pimps, massage parlors, or on their own and risking their lives every day. Drug and alcohol abuse are rampant just to get through another day and if they have a kid/children, they have this life inflicted on them as well. Trafficking of teens working the streets and children being sold to the highest bidder - do you support that as well?

So you support them? You're an ally? What exactly does that mean? Just empty words that sound good to other empty heads.

162 A community of women who mostly came from broken, chaotic homes and who more often than not, were physically, emotionally, and sexually abused.

Going to their stupid cloud PC implementation over classic VPN/VM implementations was one of the stupidest decisions our company could have made. From outages, to forced changes, to constant UI tweaks. What a complete soup sandwich.

People simply need secure email and file access, with decent SPAM handling, which MSFT cannot even deliver without constant fuck ups.

196 Hollywood in the mid 60s took great pride in rebelling against the previous squeaky clean social mores. Unfortunately in the never ending quest to be seen as even more rebellious they have gone completely off the deep end to the point where they can't even comprehend the thinking of their potential customers. Also, imagine being a person who's only talent is being attractive. They are getting paid at a rate where they are rich. They have to realize that there are thousands of people who could do exactly what they do. So they are going to do and say whatever they think will ingratitate themselves with the people who decide whether or not they keep their spots.

Our grid(s) is inter-connected with Canada's. Fairly integrated at least on the East Coast.

I don't know if it's possible to isolate electricity cleanly along the border. Maybe.

Maine, NH and I believe VT get a significant amount of power from Quebecois hydrodams at this point. They shut down most of their coal plants due to EPA rules, the environmentalists shut down expansion of nuclear energy in the 1980's (NH has one nuclear plant, for example. Only half of it was ever built), NY will not allow any additional natural gas pipelines to be built crossing their state, and due to the Jones Act in conjunction with DoL and EPA LNG rules, it is not possible to import LNG from other places in the US.

So most winters (at least until recently), New England imports LNG from Russia and hydro power from Quebec.

...Tangled webs.

They shut down the government in Trumps first term twice. Once for like 2 days early in his term, then for a record-setting 35 days in 2018 in to 2019.

308 The funny thing is, the COVID lockdown trapped a lot of people at home. They couldn't go to church. They couldn't go to the gym. They couldn't go the the park. They couldn't even go to work.

All they could do, other than snuggling in close to a thousand random people in close proximity to decry drug users dying, was to "Netflix And Chill".

They couldn't do that in movie theaters, but movies could still be seen and "purchased" (rented). People had a lot of free time and little to do with it. A prime audience and customer base, needing something to pass their time with

But they screwed that up.

Movies are costing a crazy amount of money to produce (a separate question is how much is graft and corruption, like through "Hollywood Accounting"). And they are front-loaded; they try to recoup the costs in the first month. But the quality is so abysmal that there's no long-tail to it. How many people are going to plonk down $30 for a disc or $15 for a one-time rental of "The Eternals"?

TLM was terrible but I think what killed it was casting a girl who looked so different from the cartoon. I'll wager even little black girls were like "mommy, that's not Ariel!" Had Disney not fucked the pig on casting, I think it would have been a billion-dollar movie.

369 @341

>>Do you discount other films that are tied to specific periods like Jane Austen adaptations or movies made in the 30s about gangsters?

No, it's just specific films, Like The French Connection, or Taxi Driver or The Breakfast Club, it's just something very innate to those films and others that just dates them, like for instance, War Games which was made two years before The Breakfast Club does not elicite this same reaction I get when I Judd Nelson call Michael Anthony Hall a Neo-Maxim-Zoom-Dweebie.

hehehe. Wife and I were seriously annoyed with that rescue group. Greyhounds have some eccentricities and they just dropped off her dog with no following up at all. Thankfully, my dog walked in, saw the other grey and immediately showed her how to be a proper Greyhound.

Yep, learned that this morning from two German Colonels. They are floating $850B to stand up an army of conscripts numbering around 250k. Don't know where and what this structure looks like. They are working the design but, yeah, their costs will be around 3.5% of GDP.

My question is how much of it will be Eastern Germany vs Western Germany.

390 Thank you for this, CBD.

"Pretty Woman" was an early instance of celebrating whoredom as a great life for a woman and a primo way of catching a (rich) husband.

Abortion is celebrated because it also facilitates using women as pump-and-dump masturbation toys, basically. (I used to support it, many years ago, because I bought the lie that it is "liberating.")

Men are vilified. Women are degraded. The Left is utterly vile.
