Special Guest Guitarist Cave

insideofaguitar.jpg
Inside a guitar

Is anyone else starved for Spring? This cold weather is for the birds, man. (Global warming, why have you abandoned us?)

February is where the winter blues start. It's not really that cold in December, and even when it gets cold and snows in January, it's still a novelty. The first couple of weeks of cold weather are fine. We "get to see the seasons change" or whatever.

It's in February where winter wears out its welcome.

Dog keeps sneaking into neighbor's pool, won't leave.

I'm pretty sure this sheep pumps gas at the local Exxon.

Dog is so excited to be included in People Stuff!

This cat doesn't just realize bears are out of control. He does something about it.

Spider makes the classic mistake of attempting to chase an ant into its anthole.

Corgi overload.

Incompatible play styles.

Jaguars doing group aquacize.

The taming of the cat-shrew.

Big Cat Variety Pack.

I linked this a couple of weeks ago, but in case you missed it: Dog moves camera so that he can steal a treat without being seen later, but he forgot about the Narc.

Moose throws a scare into a photographer.

Husky dad wants to pet his puppies.

Saving a dog perilously perched on the edge of a bridge.

Oldie but a goodie: Dogs caught while plotting their Great Escape.

Here are some well-known songs. Can you name the guest guitarist on each?

Staring out with some of the easier ones:

"Beat It" by Michael Jackson. Specifically the guitar solo.

"While My Guitar Gently Weeps," the Beatles.

"No More Lonely Nights," Paul McCartney. This is another one that's so obvious once you know. You really hear it in the solo.

"Thunder Island" by Jay Ferguson. A commenter mentioned who the guest guitarist was here, and I kicked myself. It was so obvious.

I bet no one will get this one, but as a hint, the slide guitar is played by someone who's an answer to a different question in this list: "Don't Mean Nothin'" by Richard Marx. (And this is also a Forgotten 80s entry.) The guest guitarist is just as obvious here as it was on the other one.

"Day After Day" by Badfinger. The guest guitarist is playing the slide guitar.

Answers Here. That's technically an "Old Post" so don't comment there or the system might autoban you.

Has special exhibits from time to time, when I was there, it was rock guitars from classic groups--Beatles, Stones, Who, etc. Upstairs was Keith Moon's Pictures of Lily Drumset on permanent (I think) exhibition.

If I still have a right arm. Keeps getting worse and orthopedists, pt therapist, rheumatologists, and pain doc have different opinions. Two say it is back joint deterioration, rheumatologist says non radiographic anklylosing spondylitis, one says shoulder damage as I do have some tearing of the rotator cuff but neuralgia is not a typical symptom of it.

Recent nerve block pain/steroid shot in shoulder worked about a day.

Bunch of diagnoses but all that means is more money on tests and specialist visits.

I just popped the zoomed-in radar over my location here, and saw a blue phallic shape right over me. That was a patch of falling snow. It wasn't getting to the ground, surface air is way too dry and it's subliming on the way down.

But the balls of that blue phallic shape were right over me. I've been tea-bagged by Old Man Winter, who now identifies as Mother Nature, I guess.

I typically do the "power red," which is opposite of plasma. They take the red cells and put the plasma back. I'm not sure if the plasma centers do this--I'll have to check.

The reason I do this is that they use the red to make the Rh injections for women who have a baby with incompatible blood type.

The el jeffe of both associations have put me and Smash at one of the head tables, with retired LTG Mann, his wife, the Redstone Arsenal Chaplain (we got commander!), and my basic training buddy a retired CSM that is getting the Ancient award. Bonus points...the ADA el jeffe pissed of LTG Gainey by not personally inviting him. Even worse...i was told that I was the easiest WO any of them have ever worked with. Tell me that last one was a lie. I have a rep to maintain!

Please, please, please pick a battery you're pissed off at and send me out to the field to table 8 them and all their crews until the mess hall runs out of food money.

Aw shucks, as I said, mine is largely pain, stiffness, and limitations in what I can do: there are people here with much graver life threatening emergencies that need praying for. I need prayers for forgiveness more than anything.

A person can learn to cope over the years. Widening doorways, levers on doors instead of knobs, ice packs, etc. using a jar opening device, and so on. Biggest annoyance is not able to go shooting between surgeries to free up nerve channels etc. All I can do is dry fire. With a bum right shoulder, I am tentatively trying dry firing rifles via my left shoulder. I shot pool with my left arm and can hammer, open a door with it, shoot handguns with it, etc. Just poorer coordination for fine motor skills like handwriting.

They’ve ruled out cervical impingement causing your shoulder pain?
Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth

Could be, might not be. My problem is my C6-7 joint has been damaged since 2017 or so. Basically std. testing for nerve damage does not work well if the baseline is already affected. They are basically poking me with a facet injection first which did nothing, now a shoulder one, which the nerve block portion lasted a day, the steroid part is doing nothing.

There is also that damn vagus nerve system and deterorating upper thoracic disks aka herniated.

May have to have those nerves ablated like in my lumbar (which is slowly becoming a problem again). I am essentially like a moneypit house remodeling. Fix one thing and another goes wrong.

Posted by: Scarymary at February 20, 2025 08:41 PM (Q8SAm)

It is a negative thing. If mama has negative blood, and has a baby with positive blood, one or both of them may need the injections. I had to have it during my first pregnancy.

This is why they used to make people get a blood test before they married, because it can be deadly for mom and baby to have incompatible blood. But now they can make the Rh antibody from blood and counteract incompatibility.

I moved contractor money around to add data science resources to my anti-fraud team. I confess. I asked where the fat was and is in our contracts so we can make the right tough choices."

It's the lozenge form that makes it effective. You let the lozenge dissolve in your mouth and that's how the zinc cones into contact with any viruses populating your respiratory tract. I do not know how much a person can consume. I just follow the directions on the bottle and I don't really take much more zinc than that.

Speaking of dry indoor air. Dew point here is now below 10F. When it gets that low, it's more than 2 little humidifiers can keep up with. Interior RH will drop below 40%.

I estimate it would take 4 of them running wide open to maintain interior RH right at 50% when it's this dry.

286 "Get a humidifier."

Doesn't hurt to try. The ultrasonic ones (recommended) are pretty cheap considering the relief they might provide.

My son was starting to develop reparatory problems and the school started making noises that he had asthma or some BS.

I got a humidifier for his room and suddenly all his "symptoms" disappeared'

287 >> Sublimation! My favorite physical phenomenon in the winter. I like it when the bare spots on the sidewalk get bigger and bigger and the snow just disappears without melting.

That happened here with that snow we had a few weeks ago. That's a rare thing here to see. Dew point was very low with a little cover of snow on the ground. Sun came out, and all the ground snow just disappeared. No melting to liquid water at all. There was a little melting on the roof, dripping down the gutters, but very little.

Others have already mentioned vitamin D. I guess I'll add a recommendation for a saline sinus rinse thingie (I like the squeeze-bottle one from NeilMed) and some distilled water (never use tap water) to go with it.

Also, I'd recommend not overdoing it with the OJ as the high sugar content will negate any benefit of the vitamin C. Although, it sure tastes good. Especially with vodka. Mmmmmm....

Now that I've got this little weather station, I've been having fun. That snow event a few weeks ago. When it started, radar was painting blue all over here, but none was getting to the ground.

Now, looking at the graph for temp and dew point, I could see what was happening. Temp drops, dew point rises. That's the snow falling into the dry surface layer of air. Heat of vaporization pulls heat out of air, temp drops, and dew point rises.

And then, as the difference gets smaller, at some point the flakes start appearing, making it all the way down.
