The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

rWIMntGkpTHhfLo2.png

[H/T Blake]

*****

Good morning boys, girls and everything in between. One quick question, where in the heck did this past week go?

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Reedsburg)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice. And no jumping from the furniture.
3) Running with sharp objects? Well isn't that special?
4) Have a great weekened!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/14 – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The drain was put in on 12/11. She was supposed to receive a sedative and medication for pain while they worked, and she received nothing. She felt everything and it hurt like hell. It also hurts when it is being drained, and that is daily for the first week. She has a great home health nurse coming in now, and she has shown Jewell’s daughter and husband how to do it.
1/18 Update – Jewells saw the ortho doc, and she should be able to get a shot 1/29. Her arms are still very painful all the time. She can barely use her left arm at all. She spends most of her day in bed. She will see the oncologist 2/5 and will get a scan. She says she has to admit she gets very depressed.
1/31 Update – The excruciating pain in her left arm was because it was broken. The brittleness of her bones from chemo caused the break to spontaneously occur. It now has a splint.

1/4 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 80 year old aunt. The aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and started treatment this week.
1/31 Update – The aunt has gone through her 12 treatments and is doing well. It knocks her flat for a couple of days but she’s a tough old bird. Prayers for all of the Horde and their loved ones in need.

1/4 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her eldest sister. It looks like her illness is cancer.
1/12 Update – Please keep praying. Her sister has stage 4 breast cancer.
1/30 Update – Her sister has gone to her eternal rest. Please pray for her soul and for the consolation of her daughters.

1/11 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers. He is having a double mastectomy. (He notes: Yes, male breast cancer is a thing!) He is fortunate that it appears to be localized. Another request is for an aunt (age 70+) who is facing lung cancer and having part of her lung removed. She is scared and needs prayers too.
1/31 Update – The surgery went well (bilateral mastectomy). Now he is waiting for the pathology report to learn what the next steps are – chemo and/or radiation. Thank you for the prayers for his 70 year old aunt. Her surgery was moved up to 2/3.

1/15 – Sponge gave an update on his wife. She met with the radiation oncologist, and he used the word “cure”, so she is pretty happy about that. She has a couple more chemo treatments to go.
2/13 Update – His wife got a reprieve from the oncologist and does NOT need to get the last round of chemo. She will start the process of radiation prep next week, and may start the 19 rounds next week as well.

1/16 – Pookysgirl asked for prayers for Lil Pooky, who was scheduled for hernia surgery on 1/20.
1/20 Update – The surgery went well and he’s already mostly back to his normal self.

1/18 – Hadrian the Seventh shared good news. The pain in his shoulder has been correctly diagnosed, so he can keep the discomfort at bay. He’s also receiving physical therapy. Now he can take on professional computer assignments again.

1/18 – rhennigantx updated the Horde, that his friend Tim, who had a stroke in the spring, died about 10 days ago. He kept getting infections in the feeding tubes.

1/18 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for Chris, the new husband of a friend of hers. They have been married since the summer, and are nice conservatives and Catholics. He is hospitalized with a high fever and urinary issues, which he has had a long time.
1/25 Update – Chris came home on 1/20. He is doing better. The infection was removed by IV antibiotics, but the doctors still need to determine why he’s having excessive urination – up to 20 times a night – which is exhausting for them both. Continued prayers are appreciated.

1/18 – Sock Monkey offered praise to our Lord. A year after a large cancerous growth was found on his spine. The prognosis was not good. After a nine hour surgery, chemo, therapy, and lots of prayers throughout the year, he was pronounced cancer free last week. He wanted to say thanks to the Lord and to the Horde for the prayers.

1/18 – Madame Mayhem asked for prayers for her niece’s husband, who had a mini heart attack. He’s around 32 years old, and works like a dog at his dad’s construction business.

1/18 – Jrgunn77 requested prayers for health, which was fine a few months ago, but recently has been his with extremely high BP spikes, anxiety attacks, constant headaches, and hernia troubles. Jrgunn is on meds for the BP and anxiety, scheduled for a colonoscopy, and has referrals for a cardiologist and neurologist. These out of the blue anxieties are the worst. Jrgunn also asked for prayers for a friend from church, Rodney, who has recently suffered lung failure and is on oxygen, to come home from the hospital, and Pastor Ben and his brother, for comfort after the passing of their little sister from drug addiction.
2/11 Update – Jrgunn77 is still stuck at home, trying to recovery from pneumonia. Rodney, his friend from church, is in a bad way. His lungs have begun stiffening and his ability to breathe is severely compromised. His only hope is a lung transplant. He is sedated, and surrounded by his family. In times like these, it’s difficult to know how to pray, but please do.

1/18 - MkY asked for prayers for his wife, who was diagnosed with stage IV renal cancer last week, out of the blue. They ask for prayers, not that their own will be done, but that God’s is, and that he is merciful.

1/18 - Teresa in Fort Worth said she could use some more Horde prayers. She had a CT scan on Monday. The largest tumor has not increased, but at least 4 others have quadrupled in volume, despite 2 rounds of chemo. Her third round of chemo stats on Wednesday. So far, she’s had exceptionally light nausea which has been controlled with medication, which is a blessing.
1/21 Update – the news is less than encouraging. The current chemo regimen does not appear to be working. There are a LOT more satellite tumors in her liver, and all of them are growing. There are new treatment options planned, but ultimately, it looks like the best case scenario is that she has 1-2 years left. If she doesn’t do the proposed treatment, they would be looking at 3-6 months at most. She said this is kind of what she thought was going to be the outcome. It sucks, but she knows the timeline, and is determined to make the most of the time that she has left.
2/10 Update – Her oncologist says she is doing great, and he will see her again in 3 months. He seems to think she might have a couple of years, maybe more, left!
2/12 Update – Teresa got the results of her tumor marker test back. After stopping the chemo (which wasn’t working), and after 2 weeks of targeted gene therapy, her markers have dropped way down! This means the therapy is working!

1/18 – Hrothgar’s daughter updated the Horde that there was a complication in his surgery, and he is in the ICU. She asked that we please keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
1/22 Update – Hrothgar is out of ICU, started on PT, and is able to take more nutrition. His condition is much improved. His family thanks everyone for their prayers. It has meant so much to them.

1/22 – Skip and his family could use some prayers. His mother’s brother has only a few days left. He has been in a VA hospital the last few years, after a stroke.
1/25 Update – Skip’s uncle passed away.

1/25 – Sal asked for prayers for a couple he volunteers with. The husband, a retired pastor, has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. They are both in their mid-80s and surgery is not an option for him.

1/25 – Tonypete asked for prayers, as he has his second day of services as a hospital chaplain.

1/25 – B requested prayers for his brother Paul, who has been very sick for the last several years. This weekend he will join their parents, and little sister and older brother, who left them, too young, many decades ago.

1/25 – Grammie Winger asks for prayers that everything goes well, as Rev finally has his colostomy reversed this week.
2/5 Update – Rev is on day 7 of his 4 day stay at the hospital. He is still unable to eat. He goes for more tests today.
2/12 Update – Rev is doing better. He may get out of the hospital on Friday. Woo-Hoo!

1/25 – Lizzy requested prayers for her colleague, Sally, who was dealing with some GI issues. This week, after a trip to ER, they found and removed a mass. They are waiting for more information now, and praying it’s not cancer.

1/25 – A asked for prayers for her nephew’s wife, who was just diagnosed with brain cancer. Please pray for a miracle that they are able to remove it all.

1/30 – KT had asked for prayers as she had a stroke earlier in the week. She is still at the hospital be feels very lucky, considering what happened.
2/8 Update – KT is home from the hospital now and feeling grateful. She posted that her GP said to light a candle to God, because He saved her life. There don’t seem to be many after-effects from the stroke. She will need to keep working on staying healthy.

1/31 – BurtTC posted that his son, who had Down Syndrome, had died. BurtTC tried to give him as good a life as possible. It wasn’t a protracted illness, but he was expected to recover. BurtTC says that he doesn’t believe his son needs prayers; God now has the purest of souls to hold and protect. Please pray for those of us who knew and loved him. The loss is immeasurable. BurtTC asks that instead of condolences, that you would hold close those you love, and be kind to each other.

1/31 – From about that time asked for prayers for a SIL, who was suddenly terminated from the only job he’s held in his adult lifetime, with the second child on the way. Please pray it works out for the best.

1/31 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his wife’s buddy Barb, who is either bi-polar or manic depressive and doesn’t know it. She is a disaster and very unhappy. Prayers for healing would be greatly appreciated.

1/31 – Just Sayin posted that s/he has brain cancer and will be gone soon, and asked that the Horde keep fighting the good fight.

1/31 – L asked for prayers for her daughter, Shannon, who is scheduled for surgery on 3/11. She will be traveling to Cleveland on 2/27 for a pre-op meeting. She will be staying in town for the weeks before the operation, so they will have some time together. (As a Franciscan sister, she has spent much of the last 20 years in other states.) L thanks the Horde for their prayers. Shannon’s community will be praying, as well.

1/31 – Bif Bewalski gave an update on Smash. The blood work confirmed that she does not have pancreatitis. They gave her fluids, 3 types of digestive system meds via IV, and then ignored her for 8 hours. Anyway, she is home and feeling better.

2/7 – Weird Dave requested prayers for his sister, Susan, who had a major heart attack.

2/8 – Sock Monkey posted that his family needs some serious prayers. He didn’t want to get into details, but his daughter and 5 grandchildren are now living with them. There is abuse and addiction involved.

2/8 – MammaB asked for prayers. She said she needs surgery, and has been preparing for it for several months, jumping through the hoops put up by the clinic and insurance. Last Wed. she was told everything was complete and she could have surgery in 8-10 weeks. On 2/7, the surgeon’s office threw up another roadblock, one that is very difficult to manage. She is feeling discouraged and asks for the Horde’s prayers.

2/8 – Pollywog the Ette asked for prayers for Inspector. He injured his rotator cuff last weekend, and even with muscle relaxants and narcotics he gets muscle spasms every time he tries to lay down. That means he’s had to sleep in a chair all week, so he isn’t sleeping well. It’s also making his feet and legs swell, which is bad. Besides the pain, he hasn’t been able to work for a full week because it’s his right arm that’s injured and he can’t type – even if he could sit in his office chair. Please pray for healing and continued forbearance by his employer. Mostly what he wants right now is to be able to sleep.

55 You can't look at the cabinet and not see something miraculous in its combination. There have been cross-party nominations before, back when the party politics was less divided. Southern Democrats, for example, or New England Republicans regularly crossed the aisle.

But to have two Democrat candidates for president, one of whom would have almost certainly won the nomination had there been a primary last year, is amazing.

What what they are already doing, was outside the bounds of political reality until it happened. Am I the only one who sees a connection between the relics of St. Jude (which I touched) traveling around the country two years ago? The Apostle of the Impossible indeed.

58 I could use some prayer. I think my church hierarchy is wanting me out so that they can close the church and take the money we made from the sale of the land, which technically belongs to the denomination anyway. We’re a small group but we love one another and even if the denomination doesn’t close the church having a new pastor at this point would not be helpful.

I've been brewing coffee with a french press for about a decade now. All measured out, using a hand grinder, I check temps and all. But I recently bought a very cheap automatic drip machine that also grinds so my wife, when she wants coffee, doesn't have to fool with all that.

I found that thing makes 10x better coffee than I ever did with all the work, no matter the kind of coffee, and I've now given up. I salute you, soulless coffee machine, you have my eternal gratitude.

80 I would like to share something which I thought was amusing from the new Bible study I started at the senior center. They had a lay may from the local teaching it before, but he is 90 and his family didn’t want him to drive anymore. He must miss it. Anyway we were studying 1st Corinthians 13 - the love passage ❤️. Verse one talks about without love a noisy gong or clanging symbol. I didn’t have either of those so a bought a big bell
Which the clapper had fallen out of- so I had to hold it at the top and hit it with a big spoon. Some of them jumped and laughed and said, “No; I don’t want to sound like that!”

Working with people in the senior center is kind of like doing Sunday School with kids. Props help.
Anyway they are a very nice group of people with interesting comments and I am privileged to be working with them them.

89 So I posted quite awhile back under the name "Diddly Squat" about severe pain in my leg and not being able to walk more than a few steps. I didn't expect to be put on the Prayer List but I was. It was misdiagnosed many times. Three weeks ago I was told it was severe Arterial Disease and I would probably lose my leg above my calf. Heidi and I struggled with what that would mean for our life. We would need to move to a more convenient place etc. BUT, Heidi became a beast and searched the country for answers and new medical procedures. She found a genius surgeon in Albuquerque, I had arterial surgery on the 13th (4 stents installed) ,So Valentines Day I spent with Heidi here in the hotel, and my Birthday today. (Best birthday ever becuase I will fave full use of my leg) I'm convinced this is due to the Prayers Warriors here. I cant't thank you all enough. God is Great and so are you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I think every congress person has a "real" net worth significantly higher than "what's on paper." They have the means and wherewithal to hide it.

AOC likely has millions stashed away in brokerage accounts that don't have her name anywhere on them. Check her boyfriend's financials, her parents, etc.

The probationary hires by definition had just started work, so their resumes are fresh and they may have had other offers in play.

Not only that, but the positions may yet be re-posted. In addition to reducing headcount, the object was also to purge the lame duck Biden hires of soon-to-be-unemployed politicals.

143 I recently had a sleep study and it would appear I don't need to use a CPAP anymore. Not sure I believe that as I've become rather addicted to the thing since I sleep well.
Gonna have the ENT make me a mouth guard and try that in lieu of a CPAP.
Doing so will fit in well with my plans for some extended camping trips and the dearth of adequate electrical power while boondocking in the middle of not here.

In my denomination everyone whom I know and like who has been a DS- which is the title of my immediate boss- hated it and was glad to get back to the local church. 152 Knowing that the numerous Catholic denominations view the Blessed Mary differently, I would still recommend offering her a prayer asking her to intercede for us. Just as Jesus did as His mother asked at the wedding at Cana, may Mary ask for our healing.

There is a shrine in northwest Ohio - Our Lady of Consoldation Shrine - that has many display cases full of casts, canes, braces, other mementos of peoples' sufferings that were left at the shrine following their healing.

I visited the Our Lady of Consolation Shrine with my daughter when she was undergoing her cancer treatment. Ever since I have have carried with me a pocket Rosary from the shrine. My daughter is now in remission, and I hope in 6-9 months I will be too.

Army, Non-West Pointers, Dominate Trump Appointees with Military Service

The predominance of Trump Administration appointees, who have a military background, are from my Service, Army. In addition to that, the cadre of Veterans are devoid of Service Academy fragrance.

The Service Academies (like West Point, Annapolis, etc.) and Senior Service Colleges (Army War College, Naval War College, and the others) appear to be the key gestation petri dishes for the Woke-ing Process that, until now, had captured the leadership and infected the culture of the U.S. Military....

Ring Knocker Cabal are far worse than the Ivy Leagues in their cronyism. Ever wonder why sooooo many generals and admirals?

Nice to see Trump figured that one out.

Trump has been burning out various departments from top down (direct appointments) and bottom up (conditional employees). DoD hsn't been touched (and exempt from hiring freeze) but expect a huge purge of the general ranks.

165 The Left has been grafting off the taxpayers for 60+ years. The flow of money never stopped regardless of Administrations, D or R, as the Deep State (DS) was the mover and shaker. Even Donald Trump's first term didn't touch the graft - he didn't know or didn't see it and had other worries on his plate. After 2020 he probably knew or suspected hence DOGE, but I think even he must have been surprised at the level of sheer theft.
Unless he had talked to Mike Benz. That man needs a medal.
Anyway the Left figured that the grafting would continue as in past administrations, never imagining that Trump would fire so many people and close up shops such as USAID.

I don't have a problem asking Mary for her prayers. I think of it as asking a friend in heaven to pray as I ask friends on earth to pray. I'm quite clear about asking for intercession as opposed to praying TO her. She isn't the Lord and no doubt is quite aware of that. I say this because when the subject comes up some people get in ( IMO) acrimonious debates about this. So I will ask Mary to pray for you as well, brother.

She was disappointed she didn't get to ring the bell, but since she had to get her port flushed, she went to infusion and after she was done, they gave her the bell to ring, so she was satisfied with that.

Only negative is they HIGHLY recommend, due to her triple negative cancer type, that she keep the port in for 2 years, just in case.

Most of them are, and you see it across the denominations. Look at Francis rousing himself to declare that 2,000 years of doctrine are wrong, St. Thomas Aquinas was in error, and the desperate victories at Tours, Lepanto, Malta and Vienna were actually immoral, an affront to dignity.

When the majority of congregations split, the schism is driven from the top, not the bottom. The same hierarchies that couldn't reach a verdict on acts of heresy, or violations of church discipline, are now quite happy to pronounce judgement on the same people who tolerated them.

You're in a difficult spot, and one that I've long thought was untenable. It's no longer a question of the center holding because there is no center.

There are many old classic books that have errors. On the aerospace side horner lift/drag, bruhn structures, etc.., not used much now but in the past very heavily. Lots of funky numbers floating around out there.

Many classic numerical methods books have terribly inefficient algorithms and some that are outright incorrect.

205 - Cannibal Bob

Twice in my life, at 17 and 50yoa (20 years ago) God allowed a lot of heartache into my life. Both times, it seemed, as a result of doing things His way.
My belief was still there. Insofar as how I treated others. My ability to worship and "do my job," so to speak, was nonexistent.
Then, around 6 years ago it was like He smacked me upside the head and said... Alright TeeJ, enough's enough.
What could I say except "Yes Lord. Please forgive me."

After a couple of months back in church, I was in tears, feeling again like I was unworthy of taking communion.
It wasn't audible but the thought,,, Do you think I don't understand? Go. Partake.
We have such a loving and forgiving God!!!

212 The obvious way to unwind SS is give young workers an option to opt out. But without their contributions, there’s no money to pay current retirees. It will take several decades of the govt borrowing to bridge that cap.

Can it be done? Yeah. Is there political will to do it, even in the part of Trump? We shall see.

Looking at assisted living options now. I've realized I can't continue indefinitely with her here, despite her continued sweetness and (usually) cheerfulness.

I think they exempted themselves from all laws.

Notice that not one politico has come forward to claim they are not, and never have been, involved with monetary kickbacks from any NGO or grant? I mean, they're all in on it to one degree or another. You'd think that if some holier-than-thou congress person wasn't in on it they'd be out there chest thumping and wagging their finger at everyone else.

But no.

The exposure is either going to cripple their ability to grift or they're going to resort to some pretty drastic measures to keep it. I'm betting they will try to keep it.

I think there is value in supporting the "general welfare," but the core issue is the lack of oversight and corruption.

This is true in the private sector as well, and watching corporations "de-bank" people pretty much destroyed any vestige of libertarianism I might have harbored.

Any solution must therefore be realistic, and one of the most salient lessons of the past month has been that the GOPe's solutions were never realistic because they never wanted them in the first place.

I suspect many of them are trying to live on what they can earn, in addition to their SS benefits. But I also wonder, how many of them have found work they like to do, even if it's at a restaurant or a store, and they enjoy being useful.

Combine this with close scrutiny to elections and you have a potential reset to national politics.

When the dust settles, tens of billions of dollars will be have been ripped out of the Dem ecosystem. Multiple media will fail. At the same time, Trump's transformation of revenue and tax cuts will make future increases much harder. He's looking at altering the very fabric of government and society.

Yuge stuff.

Maybe. But the "big reveal" will be that the CIA kills Presidents and others it deems dangerous in this country.

Obviously, they still exist, whether the perps of those kills are already dead or not.

If it can be shown definitively, and I know a lot of people still doubt it was CIA, which it was, then that might be a very big deal moving forward.

I expect some of these programs to be picked up by state and local governments, so kind of a transfer. But more localized costs are closer to voter control and oversight, so there's that. And state and local governments are a lot less likely to be funding overseas "aid."

It's always proper to celebrate a victory. Whether it leads to better things or can be sustained is another question.

Yes, every victory is nice and should be greeted with gratitude.

The culture isn't ready for wholesale cuts yet, I believe, but-

Trump and Musk have been lucky in Biden and his cronies' hammerhead malevolence.

They literally threw Our Tax Dollars away in the clumsiest manner possible at graft-filled orgs and individuals.

If this continues for 6 months or so, the public will be ready for real cuts and elimination of things like the DOE.

But, retirees who made their retirement plans based around SS and denied other options just getting a ball o'cash that decreased in value because of inflation?

I don't see that working at all. Not ideal.

335 There is a basic problem with SS. Inflation. One's payment is based on salaries earned maybe 20-30 years before retirement during prime earning years. People doing the same job today making way more just due to inflation. I was lucky in that I was self employed for a good while so could have a Keogh which allowed me to manage my own retirement funds. But I don't know how most could manage on SS alone. If you do work to supplement, you risk getting taxed. The system is grossly unfair to lower middle class workers for these reasons.

My father is 80 years old and in good shape; he still works, but he also happens to love what he does. I could walk away from my profession and not miss it for one second.

Medicare A is "free" if you're over 65 (meaning that you've paid Medicare taxes for many decades).

Medicare B isn't "free". There's a monthly premium. If you don't sign up at 65 you'll pay a monthly penalty every month for the rest of your life.

Medicare D is prescription drug coverage. Most prescriptions just require a small copay after you've met the annual deductible. Again, you don't *have* to sign up for this right away but if you don't sign up when you first turn 65, you'll get butt-fucked on premiums for the rest of your life.

- Are you going to force the poor to ERs as their PCPs? Congrats, your party will never be elected again AND you've made things worse in the process.
- Will you means test SS/Medicare? Congrats, your party will never be elected again.
- Will you phase out SS/Medicare - continue paying taxes but getting less and less/later and later? That might work but in all likelihood your party will never be elected again.

It's a simple matter to fix only for people who won't be affected by either the fix or the fallout from the fix.

At some point, you phase it out, the youngest workers are not to "pay in" a dime, and be told it will not be there when they retire. The older workers, whatever percentage you put it at, you lower their pay-in, but nobody is being told their benefits will be reduced. It'll just stop at some point.

You can compel people to contribute to a private pension fund, with subsidies for people who can't afford to make the payments, and with some sort of FDIC mechanism to insure the pension funds.

Same reason that Willie Horton supposedly robbed banks. Because that's where the money is.

Social Security is currently 21% of the budget. Medicare is 13%. Medicaid is 9%.

That's 43%.

Expecting a significant reduction in federal outlays while leaving those intact is just not realistic.

412 Duplicate Social Security numbers explains a lot. This has been going on for quite some time. My stepmother worked at pillow factory(Human Resources) in Reno where most of the employees were hispanic. Early 2000's when they were talking about going after companies and the people that were in charge of hiring(my mother) for hiring illegals. My mother would go to seminars on how to identify FAKE SS cards. The big problem wasn't fake SS cards it was legit SS cards. The only way to smoke out workers that had obtained legitimate cards was my mom calling the workers names over the PA and the worker not responding because they couldn't remember the name on their SS card! Because of this it would cause an uproar and my stepmom being hispanic herself had to be escorted out of the building by my father armed of course because her fellow hispanics saw her as a traitor. Good times.

Thus the need for some sort of FDIC-type regulator to oversee the pension funds.

Monarchs were prone to wars, but they were limited ones. When the power of the people was unleashed, wars became total, to be fought to the death because only annihilation could justify the sufferings of the people.

Right now we have an oligarchy, which distracts the people with wars and attacks them for being unpatriotic if they don't keep paying for them and sending their kids to die, though this is changing.

Then you set up government-secured savings accounts (but run by professional investors). The money you put into SS doesn't go into risky investments, or at least as risky. The money, botyh your investment and the proceeds from those investments, is yours to keep and pass on to your kids if you so desire. The Feds have a thrift plan that functions like that and it has done very well.
