Well, good news and bad news. First, the good news is that after 3 weeks on this new medication, my CA19-9 levels have dropped to 34..8 (the cutoff value for this cancer is 37) 🥳🥳🥳 Last week, it was at 91, and 2 weeks before that (before I started on the new medication), it had climbed to 596).This is a trend in the right direction!
The bad news is that my eyes have gotten worse over the last 3 weeks - a known side effect of this medication - which is not so good. I have a fluid build-up under my retina, which is causing my vision to be very blurry, even with contacts or glasses on. This has severely cut into my ability to do my needlework, which i am not happy about 🤣🤣🤣 The opthamologist wants me to pause taking the medication for 2 weeks to see if the problem will resolve itself, and my oncologist agrees. If everything goes back to normal, I can resume taking the medicine at a lower dosage. This is only a temporary reprieve, and we won't know if my tumors have shrunk until late April, when I am scheduled to have my next CT scan. If they shrink enough, it may be possible to cut them out - the only long-term "cure" for The Bitch - even with that, I may only be buying Posted by: Teresa in Fort Worth, Plucky Comic Relief, AoS Ladies Brigade - Eat the Cheesecake, Buy the Yarn. at February 18, 2025 10:02 PM (SRRAx) 12

Wearing my Chucks now. And there's a story.
I grew up poor. Not poverty poor, but poor enough where my family had to count pennies to buy me shoes every couple of years. At that time Chucks were about the cheapest shoe out there and I'd have to make them last. There were times I had to use duct tape to keep them together. I wear them all the time now, even in a workplace filled with frat types with their Bostonians and shit. I resolved that if I ever start feeling full of myself, I just look at my shoes and remember where Incame from. Although now there's a cruel irony that 70s Chucks aren't really all that cheap anymore. I still wear the hell out of them though. The pair I have on now have a busted lace that I tied together to get more life out of it. Like the old days. Posted by: WitchDoktor at February 18, 2025 10:10 PM (13bqY) 57

Norwegians are funny about figure skating. Sonja Henie was three-time Olympic gold medalist, then parlayed that into a pretty big film career. Norwegians never forgave her for leaving. She missed the German occupation. I'm sure Hollywood was more fun than being home those years.
The Norwegians have had almost no interest in figure skating since, though they always dominate Winter Olympics. Which is remarkable considering they are even now a nation of 5 1/2 million. Ski events, speed skating-yes, figure skating-no. Posted by: Norse Saga at February 18, 2025 10:24 PM (G5+As) 121

The propotion is off on Shrillary's head. Lady Bird's is beautiful, in its likeness as well as just as a portrait in general. Jacqueline and Nancy definitely look like they're on stilts. I love a great movie poster, but few have ever been the reason for seeing a movie, for the simple reason that the movie theater nearest our town only had one screen (the town has grownI think it has two or three screens now).
By the time I got to the theater, it was the trailer/tv/radio ad that had got me there. The radio ad for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, for example, was pitch-perfect for any fan of the book. That said, I always wanted to see Fantastic Planet just based on the poster; I finally did several years ago and while the animation is amazing, the movie itself doesnt live up to it. And the Flash Gordon movie poster really sold the retro aspect of it. I may have decided to see that based on the poster. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at February 18, 2025 10:27 PM (4I+E7) 132

Are women harder to paint than men? The Presidents all looked good, but the First Ladies were all off. Book covers have really gotten into a rut in general. They have figured out templates that work online for each genre and stamp them out like Chinese shoes (see how I brought it back to the topic?). The colors used, the layout, etc. Just like the content, you get just a few variants in each genre: Time traveling romance Romance with a super rich man Romance between a nerdy girl and a buff action guy (firefighter, special forces, etc) and so on. Each genre has its very narrow range of copycat books. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 18, 2025 10:49 PM (2VST1) 218
re Fed Employee salaries -
The high earners are GS-13 and above. The same GS salaries for those apparatchiks as degreed engineers with 5+ years experience across FedGov. NASA, DoD, Corps of Engineers, Los Alamos and other nuclear labs, NRO, and so on. Those folks create tangible stuff. I'll bet most of the apparatchiks at the Denali Commission, OPM, Peace Corps, etc., create and push paper that generates more paper and infinite meetings. Should they earn as much as engineers designing and operating dams, Mars rovers, recon satellites and other high-tech stuff? Perhaps Elon will have some recommendations for Trump about this aspect. A lot of his work, and what made it great beyond the colors and actual artistry was the composition of each piece. Your eye gets dragged around in a spiral in that one, a lot of his work is dynamic, and the images generally get you to drag your eyes around it to take in the whole image, and that adds to the motion in the picture. His work was pretty spare, too, not loaded up like a Where's Waldo Posted by: Kindltot at February 18, 2025 10:54 PM (D7oie) 243

THE BAHAMAS JUST LEVELED UP—WELCOME TO THE SPACE AGE
Move over, sun and sand—The Bahamas is now a player in the space game. For the first time, a Falcon 9 rocket booster will land in Exuma Sound, a deep-water basin perfect for rocket recovery. Not bad for a country best known for crystal-clear beaches. This isn’t just a flex—it’s a game-changer. Exuma Sound’s deep waters and ideal location make it the perfect spot for safe landings, supporting future crewed missions (maybe even the first polar orbit crew flight) and opening doors for Bahamian students to get involved in aerospace. Tourism? That’s old news. The Bahamas is now officially launching into the future. Bedtime, but a passing comment about the picture of Melania. I've seen that look many times before. For a while in my misspent, squandered youth, I roadraced motorcycles.
There was a condition that was common as riders suited up for a race. It was called becoming 'race-faced'. I've also heard it described as 'gunfighter eyes'. It was a result of becoming *very* focused on what you were about to do, everything else was put aside. Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at February 19, 2025 02:39 AM (XeU6L) 464

Supermodel used to be a rare thing just like movie star. Now every two-bit actor is a star and every model that has some recognition is a supermodel.

The NY Post lead article is that Nazis are marching through Skokie Queens again, decrying Jews. Was Sharpton there? Article doesn't say, but he loves that stiff.

158 And the Flash Gordon movie poster really sold the retro aspect of it. I may have decided to see that based on the poster.
Posted by: Stephen Price Blair Took my little brother to that movie when he was maybe 12 or 13. We agreed Mom would never know, and he had to wait until the credits were done before he could stand up. Little shit thanked me for that when he turned 50.
