Turns out taking photos of a solar eclipse is not easy, even after getting all the right filters / equipment and getting your settings right beforehand. And theres that balancing act of "I've only got a minute or two, but I'd also like to stare the majesty of the event in real life with my own eyes" element.
And the clock is ticking the entire time. I figure a lot of the pro photographers are buying flights and chasing the eclipse from spot to spot to get multiple chances. Posted by: Boron Cobbie -Hurts, Smith, Barkley, etc, what did you expect would happen? at February 11, 2025 08:01 PM (X2Rtx) 21

THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN: Terrified staff left hysterical as ‘well drilled’ DOGE nerds storm hyper ‘woke’ Department of Education.
Elon Musk’s nerd army stormed into the Department of Education on Tuesday and saved over $900 million. Musk’s DOGE lieutenants Akash Bobba and Ethan Shaotran, both 22, already have access to the department, NBC News reported. And as many as 16 DOGE team members have entered the premises as the agency begins to be ripped apart. Rep. Melanie Stansbury, (D-MD) described the terror agency staff are feeling after Musk’s team entered to ‘actively dismantle’ the institution. ‘They are in the building, on the 6th floor, canceling grants and contracts,’ she said in an interview with HuffPost. Wait, I thought the DOGE guys were children, or at least that's what the one woman said when she had to show an example of her code to a DOGE guy. Posted by: I'm Gumby Damn It! at February 11, 2025 08:12 PM (jQ+5q) Young guy at work told us a story where he and his buddy were surfing and a great white killed a seal about 30 yards away from them. Instead of going ashore, they continued surfing. Asked why they stayed and his answer was they figured he was eating and would leave them alone. The look on his face when someone mentioned that didn't a kill bring more predators to the area. Apparently, it didn't cross their minds there could be other sharks in the area. Yeah its gonna take pretty major changes, especially as a few of the things that Trump is doing are going to increase cost somewhat. Good news is, we're seeing those changes. Posted by: From about That Time at February 11, 2025 09:47 PM (4780s) Honestly. this would be a tremendous investment idea for the Saudis. The thing is, all of these ideas sound insane. Do you realize how much manpower, money and material it would cost to do this? The panama canal was famous for its cost in both people and effort. And that is a MUCH smaller distance. Plus, going through the middle east, where are you going to put it without the same jacknuts causing problems. Go full 'Britannia Rules the Waves', hang some pirates and enjoy the canals you DO have. It would be easier for the Saudis to just pay for a navy (or issues letters of Marque) than to build a canal. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 11, 2025 09:52 PM (bss/y) 326

Lima beans were the bane of my childhood. And liver. Posted by: WitchDoktor at February 11, 2025 08:35 PM ---------- Tastes vary. I always kind of liked lima beans, and liver. And liver with onions. And liverwurst. I quit eating liver because it has been pointed out by biologists that the liver is the poison metabolizing organ of the body, and some toxins that are not metabolized or excreted end up there long term. So eating liver is eating the unmetabolized toxin history of the animal. But I like liver. I don't expect everyone to like it, I'm not young. Maybe I'll buy some liverwurst. Years ago Jonah Goldberg was writing something about how Libertarians sucked. He used the Dept of Education as an example....that Libertarians would scream BURN IT ALL DOWN when it was clear that the DoE wasn't going anywhere despite it being a worthy outcome. It was therefore good realistic conservatism to turn the DoE around to become a force for patriotism. Apparently he had tendencies toward preemptive surrender even back then. Posted by: WitchDoktor at February 11, 2025 08:41 PM (64qRd) Typical Goldberg. Libertarians say its crappy for reasons of liberty. Practical people point at its absolute failure at improving test scores despite all the money poured into it. Goldberg ponders for a half second and opines that somehow by magic it could be totally fixed and turned into a cultural anchor then goes back to the kitchen for a third donut of the morning. repeat that for 40 years or whatever.
