The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

15-4.jpg

[H/T Hour of The Wolf]

Good morning boys, girls and everything in between. Our beloved KT is back home. She is thankful your prayers.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Stoughton.)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate away.
2) Be nice. Be kind. And no, I repeat no jumping on the futon.
3) Running with sharp objects is neither commanded or forbidden. Do you have the deductible?
4) Have a great weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

12/14 – Jewells is still in a lot of pain. The drain was put in on 12/11. She was supposed to receive a sedative and medication for pain while they worked, and she received nothing. She felt everything and it hurt like hell. It also hurts when it is being drained, and that is daily for the first week. She has a great home health nurse coming in now, and she has shown Jewell’s daughter and husband how to do it.
1/18 Update – Jewells saw the ortho doc, and she should be able to get a shot 1/29. Her arms are still very painful all the time. She can barely use her left arm at all. She spends most of her day in bed. She will see the oncologist 2/5 and will get a scan. She says she has to admit she gets very depressed.
1/31 Update – The excruciating pain in her left arm was because it was broken. The brittleness of her bones from chemo caused the break to spontaneously occur. It now has a splint.

12/21 – Sugar Plum Fairy requested prayers for her brother-in-law, M, who found out yesterday that he has leukemia. He is only in his mid-thirties and his daughter is 2. He is heading to the hospital for 6 weeks on 12/23 for testing. Please pray for strength for his wife and mother who are in shock and understandably devastated. And for good doctors and total healing if it is God’s will.
1/18 Update – Thank you to all who prayed for her brother-in-law. The last test showed no signs of leukemia! He is not out of the woods yet, but they are giving thanks to God and all the prayers surrounding him! Also, prayers for a safe inauguration day for President Trump and all those in DC.

1/4 – Smell the Glove asked for prayers for an 80 year old aunt. The aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer and started treatment this week.
1/31 Update – The aunt has gone through her 12 treatments and is doing well. It knocks her flat for a couple of days but she’s a tough old bird. Prayers for all of the Horde and their loved ones in need.

1/4 – vmom deport deport deport asked for prayers for her eldest sister. It looks like her illness is cancer.
1/12 Update – Please keep praying. Her sister has stage 4 breast cancer.
1/25 Update – Her sister has started on chemo – a pill that blocks estrogen, and vmom has sent her fenbendazole, turkey tail mushroom capsules, and some vitamins.
1/30 Update – Her sister has gone to her eternal rest. Please pray for her soul and for the consolation of her daughters.

1/10 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice asked for prayers for his cousin, who was having triple bypass surgery.
1/11 Update – The surgery went “superbly”. Thank you all for your prayers.

1/11 – Our Country is Screwed asked for prayers. He is having a double mastectomy. (He notes: Yes, male breast cancer is a thing!) He is fortunate that it appears to be localized. Another request is for an aunt (age 70+) who is facing lung cancer and having part of her lung removed. She is scared and needs prayers too.
1/31 Update – The surgery went well (bilateral mastectomy). Now he is waiting for the pathology report to learn what the next steps are – chemo and/or radiation. Thank you for the prayers for his 70 year old aunt. Her surgery was moved up to 2/3.

1/15 – Sponge gave an update on his wife. She met with the radiation oncologist, and he used the word “cure”, so she is pretty happy about that. She has a couple more chemo treatments to go.

1/16 – Mental Block asked for prayers of thanksgiving upon completing all 28 radiation treatments for prostate cancer with minimal, temporary side effects. He also asks for continued prayers for healing as his hormone therapy continues for an additional four months.

1/16 – Pookysgirl asked for prayers for Lil Pooky, who was scheduled for hernia surgery on 1/20.
1/20 Update – The surgery went well and he’s already mostly back to his normal self.

1/18 – Hadrian the Seventh shared good news. The pain in his shoulder has been correctly diagnosed, so he can keep the discomfort at bay. He’s also receiving physical therapy. Now he can take on professional computer assignments again.

1/18 – rhennigantx updated the Horde, that his friend Tim, who had a stroke in the spring, died about 10 days ago. He kept getting infections in the feeding tubes.

1/18 – FenelonSpoke asked for prayers for Chris, the new husband of a friend of hers. They have been married since the summer, and are nice conservatives and Catholics. He is hospitalized with a high fever and urinary issues, which he has had a long time.
1/25 Update – Chris came home on 1/20. He is doing better. The infection was removed by IV antibiotics, but the doctors still need to determine why he’s having excessive urination – up to 20 times a night – which is exhausting for them both. Continued prayers are appreciated.

1/18 – Sock Monkey offered praise to our Lord. A year after a large cancerous growth was found on his spine. The prognosis was not good. After a nine hour surgery, chemo, therapy, and lots of prayers throughout the year, he was pronounced cancer free last week. He wanted to say thanks to the Lord and to the Horde for the prayers.

1/18 – Madame Mayhem asked for prayers for her niece’s husband, who had a mini heart attack. He’s around 32 years old, and works like a dog at his dad’s construction business.

1/18 – Jrgunn77 requested prayers for health, which was fine a few months ago, but recently has been his with extremely high BP spikes, anxiety attacks, constant headaches, and hernia troubles. Jrgunn is on meds for the BP and anxiety, scheduled for a colonoscopy, and has referrals for a cardiologist and neurologist. These out of the blue anxieties are the worst. Jrgunn also asked for prayers for a friend from church, Rodney, who has recently suffered lung failure and is on oxygen, to come home from the hospital, and Pastor Ben and his brother, for comfort after the passing of their little sister from drug addiction.

1/18 - MkY asked for prayers for his wife, who was diagnosed with stage IV renal cancer last week, out of the blue. They ask for prayers, not that their own will be done, but that God’s is, and that he is merciful.

1/18 - Teresa in Fort Worth said she could use some more Horde prayers. She had a CT scan on Monday. The largest tumor has not increased, but at least 4 others have quadrupled in volume, despite 2 rounds of chemo. Her third round of chemo stats on Wednesday. So far, she’s had exceptionally light nausea which has been controlled with medication, which is a blessing.
1/21 Update – the news is less than encouraging. The current chemo regimen does not appear to be working. There are a LOT more satellite tumors in her liver, and all of them are growing. There are new treatment options planned, but ultimately, it looks like the best case scenario is that she has 1-2 years left. If she doesn’t do the proposed treatment, they would be looking at 3-6 months at most. She said this is kind of what she thought was going to be the outcome. It sucks, but she knows the timeline, and is determined to make the most of the time that she has left.

1/18 – Hrothgar’s daughter updated the Horde that there was a complication in his surgery, and he is in the ICU. She asked that we please keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
1/22 Update – Hrothgar is out of ICU, started on PT, and is able to take more nutrition. His condition is much improved. His family thanks everyone for their prayers. It has meant so much to them.

1/22 – Skip and his family could use some prayers. His mother’s brother has only a few days left. He has been in a VA hospital the last few years, after a stroke.
1/25 Update – Skip’s uncle passed away.

1/25 – Sal asked for prayers for a couple he volunteers with. The husband, a retired pastor, has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. They are both in their mid-80s and surgery is not an option for him.

1/25 – Tonypete asked for prayers, as he has his second day of services as a hospital chaplain.

1/25 – B requested prayers for his brother Paul, who has been very sick for the last several years. This weekend he will join their parents, and little sister and older brother, who left them, too young, many decades ago.

1/25 – Grammie Winger asks for prayers that everything goes well, as Rev finally has his colostomy reversed this week.
1/31 Update – There are some complications.
2/5 Update – Rev is on day 7 of his 4 day stay at the hospital. He is still unable to eat. He goes for more tests today.

1/25 – Lizzy requested prayers for her colleague, Sally, who was dealing with some GI issues. This week, after a trip to ER, they found and removed a mass. They are waiting for more information now, and praying it’s not cancer.

1/25 – A asked for prayers for her nephew’s wife, who was just diagnosed with brain cancer. Please pray for a miracle that they are able to remove it all.

1/30 – KT had asked for prayers as she had a stroke earlier in the week. She is sill at the hospital be feels very lucky, considering what happened.

1/31 – BurtTC posted that his son, who had Down Syndrome, had died. BurtTC tried to give him as good a life as possible. It wasn’t a protracted illness, but he was expected to recover. BurtTC says that he doesn’t believe his son needs prayers; God now has the purest of souls to hold and protect. Please pray for those of us who knew and loved him. The loss is immeasurable. BurtTC asks that instead of condolences, that you would hold close those you love, and be kind to each other.

1/31 – From about that time asked for prayers for a SIL, who was suddenly terminated from the only job he’s held in his adult lifetime, with the second child on the way. Please pray it works out for the best.

1/31 – Tonypete asked for prayers for his wife’s buddy Barb, who is either bi-polar or manic depressive and doesn’t know it. She is a disaster and very unhappy. Prayers for healing would be greatly appreciated.

1/31 – Just Sayin posted that s/he has brain cancer and will be gone soon, and asked that the Horde keep fighting the good fight.

1/31 – L asked for prayers for her daughter, Shannon, who is scheduled for surgery on 3/11. She will be traveling to Cleveland on 2/27 for a pre-op meeting. She will be staying in town for the weeks before the operation, so they will have some time together. (As a Franciscan sister, she has spent much of the last 20 years in other states.) L thanks the Horde for their prayers. Shannon’s community will be praying, as well.

1/31 – Bif Bewalski gave an update on Smash. The blood work confirmed that she does not have pancreatitis. They gave her fluids, 3 types of digestive system meds via IV, and then ignored her for 8 hours. Anyway, she is home and feeling better.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

18 Many thanks to Annie's Stew for gathering the prayer requests and to MisHum for posting them. I think this is a very important thing we do-submit prayers and pray. It does make me both sad and angry at how many people are affected by problems because they may have had the Covid Shot . Not that's it's the reason for all problems, but it is a factor in so many.

27 Lord hear our prayers!

The Sock Monkey family needs some serious prayer. I feel like a bolt of lightning has struck this family. It's difficult to find the words to describe and I don't care to get into details. My daughter and 5 grandchildren are now living with us. There is abuse and addiction involved. To say I feel blindsided is an understatement. I'm angry. I feel betrayed, but most of all I am heartbroken for my grandkids and daughter. I still love my SIL, but it's impossible to see a road forward from here that is extremely painful. Please pray for us.

30 Now that Climate Change™ is dying due to the funding drying up because of DOGE, revelation to the damage to the countryside from all of the mining required to fabricate "green energy" is today's new hotness.

With that, we discover that probably the best coffee growing region in Indonesia is also home to less than adequate environmental concerns w/r/t tailings from mining toxic metals that are used in the "green storage" industry.

So Indonesian coffee in a K-cup, at what point does the risk of its damage override the benefit of caffeine?

Because of Trump and Musk’s actions, Uganda’s Malaria Council has suspended insecticide spraying and shipments of bed nets, one of the most effective tools in limiting the spread of the disease, have ended.

41 I asked last week what made "chemo-therapy" different than other therapies for cancer. I got the answer.
Chemo targets fast growing cells, be they cancer or normal cells. Why it's so devastating. Can't heal from wounds, etc.
Immunotherapy (which is the course my wife is on) boosts the immune system to try to get the body to take the cancer cells down on its own.

We're in the same boat, and while it may seem a small consolation, you will get to really know the grandkids in a totally different way. We should have an empty nest by now, be going on vacations, etc., but we've got the Irish Twins until such time as their mother can get her act together. Their father is dead, which at least resolved the push-pull of their completely dysfunctional relationship.

God bless you! Hang in there!

No country on earth is more affected by malaria then Uganda. Every single day, the mosquito-borne disease kills 14 children under the age of 5. Because of Trump and Musk’s actions, Uganda’s Malaria Council has suspended insecticide spraying and shipments of bed nets, one of the most effective tools in limiting the spread of the disease, have ended.

I used to think the left was being hypocritical, but I now understand that the double standard is based on the Elect/Utterly Depraved division.

If you are part of the Elect, you can do whatever you want. It's all good, because you are a Good Person and nothing you do can change that.

Conversely, the Utterly Depraved (aka Deplorable) is always and everywhere wrong. Nothing they do is good, ever. It may produce good results of the surface, but there's always a deeper, hidden evil involved. You see this all the time. Rescuing children from sex slavery means they will be brainwashed by Christians or something equally awful.

Also a lot of "made me do it" going on, i.e. "It's this war and that sob Johnson!"

72 41 I asked last week what made "chemo-therapy" different than other therapies for cancer. I got the answer.
Chemo targets fast growing cells, be they cancer or normal cells. Why it's so devastating. Can't heal from wounds, etc.
Immunotherapy (which is the course my wife is on) boosts the immune system to try to get the body to take the cancer cells down on its own.
Posted by: MkY at February 08, 2025 09:04 AM (cPGH3)

Immunotherapy is a 21st century miracle for many folks. It's why I'm still here. The medical researcher who decided "for lost cancer causes, why are we destroying their whole body/immune system when we know this treatment won't work anyway - maybe we should try to boost/build up their system and hope for the best" should forever be known far and wide. I wish I knew who came up with that thought and then executed it b/c that medical research was priceless for so many...

The eggs and the yokes were bigger with the yokes a bit firmer than chicken eggs. I had some kielbasa fried in a pan then added butter and fried the eggs. They had a more smooth texture and had less of the sulfur smell/taste than chicken eggs. They almost had a cream taste to them. I liked them overall. Very similar to a chicken egg which you might not even notice unless someone told you.

I worked for a couple years as a carpenter for a company that ran group homes for problems yutes. They owned a bunch of large homes that were built in the 1900-10 era. The census must have been down, so one house was vacant for about 6 months. Going over there to get it ready to reopen, the second you opened the door, dozens of fleas attacked your socks, ankles. Turns out, squirrels had invaded the attic and the house was infested. Took a lot of bug bombs to even make it to the attic a couple days later. Of course, the squirrels had damaged the HVAC in the attic and it took work in the eaves to seal out the squirrels. You don't want to live with squirrels, except maybe P-nut.

I had squirrels getting into my house. They came in through a soffit on the 2nd/3rd story. It was in an area where an eve came out above room extension but eventually interacted back at the roof. So the squirrels were pushing the soffit back and storing nuts inside. People said to use chili pepper or other spices but that did nothing. I had to put chicken wire up there.

While I was working putting up the wire, hammering it down with nails, squirrels tried coming in. I tried banging the hammer and that just pissed them off and I saw them reaching in. I said "Hey!" to the squirrels and the second they heard my voice they scrammed.

260 I tried duck eggs for breakfast. We bought eggs from a friend. A few dozen for 5 bucks. I eat a lot of eggs. Half of them were duck eggs. I didn't know what they'd taste like.

I admit I'm a city boy and not use to the wild ways of my farming cousins, so this was a first for me.

This is 10th anniversary of my (only & much younger) sister's passing so I went out to the cemetery earlier today. I still miss her dearly & found even a decade later, today was harder than the many routine times I visit the family plot.

As I was placing flowers, I realized a beautiful red fox was sitting not far watching & it stayed until it was ran off by many watchful crows that also inhabit the tree lined area.
I became more mindful of wildlife all around & the beauty of the cemetery & felt better.

Valentine's Day is 10th anniversary of Mom's passing, too. She & Sis were in the same FL county & in 'sister' nursing homes when they passed. Mom was interred in FL but I'll still visit the family plot, remember how they butted heads & smile.😊
