Illegal Aliens Waving Foreign Flags Block American Highways in Los Angeles
The first thing an invading army does is to seize major roadways.
A massive protest formed in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday in response to President Trump's crackdown on immigration and emphasis on deportations, where protestors were on and off the 101 Freeway and on surface streets well into the evening. The protest, which was organized and promoted on social media, originated on the Placita Olvera on Olvera Street near DTLA. ... The moving protest caused "major gridlock" on both sides of the 101, as well as Spring, Main and Los Angeles streets downtown, according to the LAPD. Both sides of the 101 were reopened by 1:20 p.m. as the demonstrations moved back onto surface streets, the LAPD said, but the reopening didn't last long. Minutes later, the LAPD said the 101 was closed once again, this time at Los Angeles Street.

Even among the actual "protestors," the vast majority are (1) paid rent-a-mobbers or (2) are there for reasons having nothing to do with any fealty to the cause, such as free pizza, (alleged) access to available sex partners, pure boredom, etc.
Even I was surprised at the extent of (1) and (2) when they were interviewing the "protestors" during the height of the "We Hate Jooz" movement after 10-7. It seemed like none of them had any idea why they were there.

Years ago, I was reading a Mark Steyn article where he was ranting about vehicle inspections. Anyways, he said something that stuck with me. (Paraphrased) "we are a nation of the undocumented, and the overdocumented."
It's so true.
I had to get a new drivers license recently, and my old one wasn't a Real ID. I showed up at the DMV with like an entire case file on myself. Passport, birth certificate, social security card, two pieces of mail, a utility bill, etc. Probably a bit overkill but I did not want to have to go back. But the frustrating thing is -- the government knows who I am. I pay them taxes every year. The NSA spies on everything.
...And how many people are driving around without a license, registration or insurance? And nothing really happens to them if they get caught.
Just a weird dichotomy.

I was at the DMV last week to transfer title and regs from the car leasing company to me. The DMV was crawling with blatantly obvious illegals getting licenses, registering cars, etc. The announcements over the PA were in English and Spanish. The signs were in English and Spanish. Nobody is even trying to hide it any more.

About 10 years ago an illegal rear ended me. It was a pretty minor accident. The illegal had no insurance of course or a license. I called the police to get a report of the incident on file. I asked the cop aren't you going to arrest him for driving without a license or insurance? Cop shrugged and said your insurance will pay for it, here’s your police report file, have a nice day.

Now had my license been expired by 24 hours pretty sure I’d be looking at a $500 fine or something.

All Justin had to do was put in a good faith effort to negotiate with Trump, listen to his concerns, and then go back to Ottawa and get some formal plan to secure the border over the two months before Trump's inauguration.
Justin could've turned this into a win for Canada by simply showing Trump that he was going to do Canada's best to secure the border and Trump would've been hard pressed to follow through on tariffs.
But nope, Justin turned into a disaster so massive that Trump was trolling him publicly before he even got off the plane back home.
And now he'll be out of a job in a few weeks as the loonie is approaching 1.50 to the dollar, and tariffs are about to slam the Canadian economy like an avalanche.

The Deep State has slowed it to a crawl, where it takes 5-6 years to get a court date. And by then, the lawyers that the Deep State pays to work for the immigrants argue "he is a hard working pillar of the community with two US citizen kids. I doubt it's true in any significant sense. Because any rights they have, we can't really take away. That's what "due process" is about. You can't interfere with rights unless they have been found guilty of a crime through due process.

It's exactly what it sounds like. Norway and Saudi Arabia, for example, have them. They deposit their oil money in to what is basically a huge investment company.

Imagine if Trump gets his SWF and it invests in coal mines/plants, gun manufacturers, and beef ranches - you'd not only be rewarding right leaning people, but giving people jobs that will require the right to stay in power (since the left would go after them if they got political power back).

Avos were a big deal around here but I think NAFTA put a lot of growers out of business. They can't compete with Mexico where they pay their people $3 per day as opposed to minimum wage here. Same with the poor flower growers.

We have a state-level one here in Alaska called the Permanent Fund.
It's been around for nearly 40 years. Everyone gets an annual check, usually in the $1,000-4,000 range, depending on the price of oil and return on other investments.
So far, so good.
Politicians have been salivating over the Fund for decades. However, touching it would be political suicide (quite possibly literal suicide).
The Governor at the time, Jay Hammond (a Republican, of course) did a savvy thing. If it'd been set up so the all the revenue had gone to schools, parks, other government stuff, rather than direct payments to citizens, it would have been looted long ago.
People like those checks.
We also don't have any state-level income, sales, or property taxes here. I believe we are the only state for which that is true.
Some localities have one or more of those, but not all (Anchorage, for instance, has property tax, but not sales tax or income tax).

Lots of countries have them.
Norway and Saudi Arabia and some other oil exporting nations are famous for them and fund it with their oil revenue.
That way the country can make some interest on the massive funds they hold instead of just selling bonds where they pay the interest over decades.
It's not a bad idea if done right.

Eventually the word will get out FAFO and people won't be so eager to do this.

From one (lowkey) contrarian to another, that was my initial instinct too. But.
Then I looked up the 101 in CA and found it was a US highway. Even if it is not part of the Hoover-FDR-Truman-Eisenhower wad of Federal / military work - the Interstate was literally designed for WW3 - it remains an artery of interstate commerce, especially given LA's status as a port.
Mexico's selfdeclared agents here don't get to shut it down. That's an offense against all of us.

I'd like to see that.
I'd also like to see old folks receive Social Security checks equivalent to what they'd be if the money extorted from them had been put in a mutual fund, or AT LEAST a savings account. Also, when a retiree dies, any remaining portion of the account is payable to his or her estate.
I admit that my 29-year-old self would benefit, so I'm not exactly an unbiased source here.

I watched an interview he did with Jordan Peterson on YouTube.
The man is a lot more intelligent than Trudeau.
He talks a good game, is tough but willing to negotiate over trade.
He will deal with Trump in a serious way.
This is going to hit Canada hard.
I don't blame them for trying to figure out ways to retaliate, even if it's mostly bluster. We'd be doing the same things if the roles were reversed.
They are a relatively small country with a large trade surplus with a much larger neighbor.
No matter what they do this will hurt Canada a lot more than
the U.S.
