Chuck Schumer POS Extraordinaire (Your Thread Before The Garden Puttering Thread)

Normally Saturday is our very own KT Day. She has been doing yeoman's work for may years on Saturday.

Unfortunately KT suffered a stroke earlier in the week. I spoke with her on Thursday and she sounded upbeat considering all. But, she did manage to tell me that because of her condition that she was unable to fulfill her Saturday threads.

I told her we all wished her well and a speedy recovery. And somehow her threads will limp along. But, we want her back!

Now onto the story at hand......................

schumer-grilling.jpg

When the subject matter is the "common man" Sen. Chuck U. Schumer of New York is a man who knows how the common man lives.
Granted, this photo is from June of 2024. Yet, after all this time it cracks me up.

How dare the environmental fascists come after Chuck with his raw meat and gas grill?

The "Common Man" has also been saying for years that government wants to enslave us and have us addicted to government money like inner city junkies addicted to the flavor of the week. Don't believe your substitute cob?

Out of the mouth of Chuckie Schumer (D-NY):

“Virtually any organization, school, state, police office, county, town or community depends on federal grant money to run its day to day operations, and they’re all now in danger.”

So yes, let us borrow money at confiscatory interest rates to give to various municipalities to keep the addiction real and painful.

President Trump has been a refreshing whirlwind these past (I'm spit balling here, math not being a strong point) 12 days. Will he and his Trump 2.0 alleviate the dependency of states and local governments on Uncle Sam? Only time will tell. It should be fun to watch as it unfolds.

Posted by: BignJames at February 01, 2025 10:59 AM (Yj6Os)

Could be. I haven't heard. One has to wonder why they authorized someone to take off - or why it took so long to note the conflict and re-route - is that's the case, though.

I don't know anything, beyond the tiny amount explained in the few videos about the crash I've watched, about aviation or ATC. Maybe this is all, outside of the collision, completely normal. Just seems odd to an outsider.

19 The depth of federal control of state and local institutions is truly amazing, but plenty of it also goes to NGO grants to facilitate migrants and to encourage cultural Marxism in many ways. Locally, we have some "story teller" group that is provided with a federal grant to push pro LGTBQ and DEI viewpoints. One of its goals seems to be to equate migrants with WWII Holocaust refugees, which is consistent with "Trump is a fascist" (see Columbian president's remarks) and inconsistent with reality. The sooner NGOs and religious groups are off the federal payroll the better.

I've watched several of the videos linked. Maybe I missed the one that answered my questions. Maybe I didn't understand that they answered my questions.

I'm not suggesting, and have never suggested, that there was anything nefarious done by any of the people directly involved. I have no experience in these matters and so I'm talking out my thoughts. I do note that a lot of the aviation savvy people seem to just roll their eyes, throw out a link, and ask if people have watched the correct stuff.

I'm sure I'm not alone, we have seen tyrants of various sorts get theirs, over these past few decades. Saddam, Kadafi, the Ceaucescues in Romania (yeah, I'm not going to try to spell it right).

I've always felt a twinge of sympathy for them, the lost looks in their eyes, when they realize they are not gods. Intellectually, I believe they got what they deserved, but there was still part of me that knew it wasn't for me to decide their ultimate fate.

I'd like to keep that humanity intact, as I contemplate the American politicians and oligarchs who deserve earthly justice, and I hope they get it. But after that.....

I understand her family's request and am sympathetic in their loss, but she was receiving a paycheck courtesy of the U.S. taxpayers. She was reportedly at the controls of an aircraft paid for by the U.S. taxpayers and may have, through negligence, played a part in ending the lives of sixty-some people, most of whom were also U.S. taxpayers.

Hegseth can't say out of one side of his mouth that he's all for transparency and out the other side say he's honoring the family's wishes in not identifying her.

Furthermore, she was reportedly a LT, not a CWO. That means she was given a commission, most probably through a ROTC program somewhere.

I’d like to FOIA her grades in school. I’d also like to FOIA what she scored on the aviation aptitude test she took prior to be given a slot in flight school. (I took that test prior to my selection to attend Navy AOCS. It isn’t easy, but it isn’t overly difficult, either).

And I’d like to FOIA her flight training records to see how many flight “downs” she’d received, if any, and if she’d received more chances to continue in flight training where the average male flight student would have been washed out.

If that makes me a dick, so be it.

43 > I thought the re-route was because of another plane taking off on the original runway?
---
There are 3 runways at DCA;
1/15 N - S (main)
4/22 N - S (alternate / short)
15/33 NW - SE (alternate / short)

So it looks sort of like a weird "X" The numbers are compass degrees.... zero would be due north. 15 coming the opposite direction is probably closer to 150 degrees, but runways only use two numbers. *your useless bit of airport/runway trivia for today*

The RJ was originally cleared on the main runway and then either was told to "sidestep" to 15/33 or asked to land there.

So, a sweeping left hand turn from heading north to a more north-west direction. In a very short distance and time.

Yeah, the whole mass migration through the border thing has been financed by the US government through NGOs, which is why they are screaming so much that foreign aid funding is suspended.

This counts as "foreign assistance", BTW.

We've also found out that 90% of Ukrainian "independent" media was getting money from the US government, that one of the main "opposition" anti-Orban media outlets in Hungary was getting money from the US government, and that almost all the anti-Putin Russian "civil society" organizations in exile get money from the US government.

About 20 miles from my home in Alberta is a feature called Dry Island. It is, in effect, a mesa within the Badlands of the Red Deer River, and has an intact example of shortgrass Prairie ecosystem on its top. There is a hiking trail to it now, but it was never grazed over by cattle, because too steep-sided. There is another high feature in the south, straddling the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, called Cypress Hills, which was not glaciated during the last big ice advance, and has plant species not found elsewhere in Canada.

54 An immigrant once said in an interview, a long time ago, that America was the best place in the world to do business, but the worst place in the world to raise a family. Lot of truth to that. What the progressives did since then largely was to make running a business almost impossible.

What made America unique in the past was the stability of government. Business and ingestment needs a kind of certainty or predictability. Sure, nobody can really predict the future, but in a place like the US, he knows that interest rates 5 or 10 years from now will be in a reasonable range. The government will not have reneged on their bonds, there won’t have been a coup with some whack job in charge. This allows for long range planning, and undertaking a reasonable amount of risk.

Absent a predictable legal environment, rule of law, etc, nobody with capital will take the chance to invest. Our stability meant smart people and smart money flocked to the US. Money always goes where it is treated best.

Years ago, I had to go to court for a guy who was being evicted from a building that had been sold to some big real estate outfit. He didn't do anything to deserve it, they just wanted him out so they could get more rent from someone else.

The company had a lawyer, the man had a few people who knew him (professionally) who were willing to speak on his behalf. The lawyer was this stooped over, bad suited, balding guy who by the looks of it, must have taken a wrong turn somewhere in his legal career.

The judge reamed him inside and out. He barely asked the man any questions, and ruled in his favor.

I figured that was purgatory for lawyers, to have to get up in the morning, put on that suit and go to this kind of court, try to argue for evil real estate companies, and get yelled at by judges.

1) The United States is descending into a fascist hell.

I understand that, but humans go too far. You can understand the desire for retribution, but there is something about shoving a bayonet up Kadafi's rectum, or manhandling a little old lady, who is too far gone to not continue to bark orders at soldiers before they shoot her dead, next to her husband.

It's the humanity of the avengers that is at stake. I don't believe God is demanding mercy from us for our previous oppressors and torturers, but he is demanding we not lose our way.

Posted by: LinusVanPelt at February 01, 2025 11:48 AM (PRg7w)

Most commercial airports have heliports, too. There's no inherent conflict. They have a traffic lane for the helos at DCA, with a 200 foot ceiling. The helo in the collision was well above that ceiling. Question arises: did the tower know? did the pilot in command of the helo know? did the pilot at the controls of the helo know? ( I would not expect the pilot of the airliner to know the helo was out of its lane unless told by the tower.)

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at February 01, 2025 11:57 AM (8zz6B)

155 Haven't heard any "official" discussion of the useless communication between ATC and the Army helo, the fact that it looks like the helo was out of position notwithstanding.

Asking if a pilot had the "CRJ" in sight is begging the question - nobody can reliably identify an aircraft by type at night against city lights!

A more thorough, (and more standard) communication that stated the expected relative position of the AA jet might have tipped the helo crew to the probability that they were concentrating on avoiding the wrong aircraft.

Yes, the helo crew probably made the fatal error, but part of ATC's responsibility is to ensure such errors are detected, and keep them from compounding into catastrophes!

When he died, the underlings were just sorta looking around and said "Oh, I guess the son will do."

It was even less certain when Jong Il died, his son, the current chubby fellow, wasn't being groomed at all.

A point I hope Trump makes is that Biden, Obama, and Shrub spent all the money. We are tapped out. Even if it was a good idea to spend money on high speed rail or college aide, all that money was given to illegals instead and now to avert catastrophe virtually all federal spending has to be cut...

And I hope he pairs this with ways to claw back as much of that money as possible from the political/bureaucratic class.

When domestic cattle graze over an area, they may eat certain plants to extinction, and the seeds in their droppings may spread crop plants and/or weeds to the new area. Presumably Dry Island was in equilibrium with the bison until erosion cut it off from the plateau surrounding the river. The Indians had a buffalo jump there, apparently used only rarely, not on the Dry Island itself, but on the west bank of the river nearby. The land is all now a park, and there is a steep, winding gravel road down to the river, where one can picnic or launch boats.

The idea of rule by Divine Right combined with primogeniture had some interesting positive impacts for Europe.

Earlier with less formalized succession rules any powerful noble, and any relative of the former ruler, could make a bid to become the next monarch. This often led to chaos and war. But by having specific rules as to who could inherit it meant that anyone trying to usurp that had additional problems to deal with from the church and society as a whole.

Monarchy, obviously, has its limitations, but if you compare medieval Europe with say the Muslim world you can see just how important this difference was for stabilizing society

247 Ottoman princes would scheme to have their siblings and half siblings killed as soon as the old Sultan seemed to have lost his grip on power.

Posted by: 18-1 at February 01, 2025 12:18 PM (t0Rmr)

That’s the classic middle eastern system, and I would argue that the Saudi’s still follow it today. Because of multiple wives, the old King ends up with dozens of potential heirs, and it’s too rough a neighborhood to risk a weak ruler on the throne. So the next King or Sultan is the one who can most cleverly and cleanly murder most of his rivals, thus ensuring that the next King will be a ruthless and calculating SOB.

In Saudi today, several of MBS’ half brothers have died in “mysterious” circumstances. One was a respected military commander, his helicopter blew up all by itself out over the desert. So sad, the Crown Prince wept for him.

322 I’d like to FOIA her grades in school.

Very similar to the story of Lt Kara Hultgren, the F-14 pilot who died in a carrier landing accident. Her RIO survived but she didn't as the plane had inverted by the time her seat ejected. The internal investigation showed that in training she had multiple incidents that would have washed out any male aviator. But she was a poster girl for gals in jets - her call sign was 'Revlon'.

Thank Patsy Schroeder.

As Waltz said, "In Minnesota, we think socialism is just another way of being neighborly!'

All the new DNC guy wants to do is bring neighborliness to the whole country.

324 One of the weirdest things about living in DC is that when things are horrible for the country, people in DC tend to feel great. And when things are better for the country, DC feels scared and threatened. They legit LOVED the last four years. And are freaking out now.

There's a post from a writer who was retiring... back around 2008 or so... can't remember who, but there was a link to it the other day on one of the socials.

Pretty much sums all that above, and then some more.

The gist being that our political class is happy when we're not and threatened when we are the ones happy. Delves deeper into all that and why.

By Any Means Necessary! If a few hundred million have to die to bring neighborliness to the whole country then that is price he is willing to make his political opponents pay... for the good of the country.

331 hey guys!

busy weekend here but wanted to note that while the private plane crashing into NE philly was very explodey, it's not actually that weird for us to have small craft crashing - I live near a small airport here and it happens quite a lot. only it lands in someone's field or in a lake or on a barn mostly, so casualties are limited to the crew.

so yeah not sure I'm getting the big deal about the crash last night. of course it's quite tragic but I dont see why that one is national news but none of the others ever were?

334 So much hilarity happening.

DOJ is now investigating Chuck Schumer's threats against Kavanaugh.

Elon found out the federal government HR department (Office of Personnel Management) was 100% working from home so he changed all their passwords to lock them out.

Trump bombed ISIS in Somalia (Ilhan Omar hardest hit) and put out a statement to terrorists that "WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU". Liam Neeson hardest hit.
