My favorite was when the EPA disagreed with the removal of a regulatory edict by Trump in his first term, they would make federal grants to Environmental groups with instructions to use the grant to sue the EPA to reinstate the regulation. They anticipated that they wouldn't get away with that game this time around, and I believe one of O'Keefe's little projects quoted a high ranking EPA official admitting that they were handing out $Billions in grants like candy prior to Trump taking office.

You do know that eggs are both regional, and highly variable between stores? Locally, Albertsons and Safeway are expensive, WinCo is cheaper, but they are mostly out and at 5.25 a dozen
This week they are $5.00 from farm stands, and they are sold out.

There has not been compensation in the past just like for beef producers (hoof and mouth), pork, etc. The usual way that USDA has tried to help keep producers from going bust is buying more of those products affected for the school lunch programs.
Livestock farming, in a lot of ways is much harder than row crop farming because it is 24/7 and 365 days per year rather than seasonal bursts.
Father was such a farmer and grandfather as well. Hard life.

One more dang thing, I am a country girl who arrived in a big city (sort of) like Ellie Mae, fresh off the farm. Innocent in many ways. Some I simply ignore, like how birds mate (chickens). I don't want to think about it. Eggs arrive by magic.
I also don't like chickens because one pecked me when I was about 6yrs old collecting eggs with an aunt. Roosters chase you. So I prefer eggs from the fridge, wherever they came from, but the carton says free range and vegetarian eggs (altho we know they eat bugs and worms in their free time).
However, in my eggy lecture, fresh eggs with orange yolks are great. A guy remodeling our house would bring us some, because all guys like me. If the world ends and I want eggs I will give him a call.
We have other things going on in the world other than the price of eggs. This is a lame talking propaganda point, Dims.

Depends on climate. Caged hens are kept in relatively constant temperatures all year around and light cycles are done to promote maximum production. The small outdoor flock type production has issues with production as it varies according to seasonal light availability and temperatures (chickens have a high temperature and thus really cold temps lead to greater consumption of grain just not to freeze. That means less of the consumption is directed into egg production.

Nope, in the case of disease, USDA is adamant that you cannot do so. They have to be disposed of by burying in a sanitary way or fire.
Lots of pathogens are spread by feeding animal carcasses back to the animals as a supplement in feed.
It is normally not a good idea anyway as fish protein or soybean protein gives better conversion ratios.

These industries make a lot of profit on any market disruption. In a stable market, there is near perfect information and so near zero profit. But in a chaotic market they can do as they please. The farmers complain that their sale price does not go up, so the squeeze is on both ends -- the farmers and consumers lose out, and the distributors and retailers make bank.
Just look at the past 4 years with record profits across the economy while consumers deal with out of control prices. It gives them an opportunity to reset all their margins to "massive" and cash in. So they want to keep the disruptions coming.

Any migratory birds can do it which is why outside pens are more likely to spread diseases from wildlife than inside confinement facilities (including pork btw).
Spread among confinement facilities can also be from human sources such as technicians, sales people, etc. that go from farm to farm.
Confinement facilities are kind of like hospitals or old folks homes, you have to prevent the communicable diseases from getting in the place or there is hell to pay.

I'm not an expert on the matter, but I'm pretty sure that all the fryers are hens, all the way up to stew hens. Immature roosters are probably culled out, except for those chosen for roosters and capons. Believe me, you'd know if you're chowing down on an adult rooster. Fit only for stews.

Anyway, I think this book mentions chickens attacking (and eating) each other. I have read it somewhere and am not well read about chickens. Because they peck barefeet, thinking toes are worms. I learned this the hard way. Plus I should not have been barefoot to begin with, but I almost always was in summer. Not as big a problem for chickens as turkeys due to fact that broilers are sold before it becomes extreme like Turkeys. Layers take longer to start laying eggs (8-9 months) for initial productive cycle, and then after that, they have to molt (not lay eggs) for awhile and their later cycles of laying eggs are shorter.
Going from memory here but broilers bulk up in about 2-4 months before market depending on breed.

I've started making my own soup again and even a pound of chicken makes a lot of big bowls of very meaty soup, and throw some handfulls of rice and it fills you right up. I freeze them up and they last decades.

I believe something like 90-95% of commercial chickens are "Cornish cross" types, which are butchered at 8 weeks because that's how fast they grow. These are proprietary hybrids of some silly number of other breeds and the almost all are hatched by one of two megacorps.

The acquaintance has a PhD in Public Health, and works as a researcher at a prominent medical school. Somebody from HHS had called one or more of her colleagues and told them to stop all research because all the funding was going to dry up.
Doesn't this sound like malicious compliance? I mean, RFK isn't even in charge yet, but here are the bureaucrats trying to scare everyone into opposing him by implementing policies that he doesn't actually want.

Usually, they don't have to give (and most don't because of expense and susceptibility to disease) steroids to broiler chickens. Mostly it is antibiotics to prevent certain diseases like cocciodosis (chicken version of dysentery), etc. Young broilers give firmer and somewhat tougher meat as it is lower in fat (most of the fat is in the skin and dark meat).
Layers on grass, etc. have to have this to prevent outside diseases in commercial production. Not normally given to layer chickens in confinement as they don't walk, eat, drink etc. where they poop. Layers are actually pretty tender meat which goes well with using chicken as ingredients to items like soup, prepared foods that have small chunks, etc.
My knowledge of these industries is a bit out of date but know the fundamentals.

You should see my face when my guy tries to explain computers to me. I try not to express or side eye as it would be rude. If my laptop turns on I am happy. If it gets slow I take it to him.
His own eyes roll back in his head if I try to explain medical stuff in the past...to the cellular levels of blood and lab work. He still laughs that in college I once was ill with a cold and he asked what was wrong. I told him thrombocytopenia so he'd quit pestering me.

Bit after that time. He did, however, work WWII German and Italian POWs in the fields and both my father and my grandfather could speak Spanish due to their importation (braceros program until Ike's Operation Wetback) during the war and its aftermath.
Grandfather was too old and in essential industry during WWII but had served during the 20's and early 30's as an aviation machinist. Started on the Langley and later on another flattop before he got out in the mid thirties.

Civil and Rights of the Accused are different depending on status as citizen/legal resident which means equal protection clause and due process arguments are the ones used in immigration constitutional law.
Illegals have no property interest as a class because they have no legal right to be here. That leaves liberty interest which affects detainment actions and whether one of their fundamental protected rights (freedom of speech, association, rights of the accused, etc. ) were affected. Illegals have freedom of speech, etc. and the rights of the accused if accused criminally of a crime.
But, deportation is a civil matter in most cases (criminal if you have a deportment order and ignored it or reenter), and thus you get due process to make your argument that something in the law allows you to stay--refugee status, etc. Depending on the argument used, the hearing can be pretty brief in nature or more complicated cases get elevated to judges.
