Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Report — 1/28/25![]() “I think what he’s done with the military in addition to the legal aspects that may be involved has a lot to do with a publicity stunt. The point is cruelty. the point is instilling fear.”I believe the word you're looking for, genius is "deterrence." And as we know, or at least most of us were taught, if you do something wrong, you are going to get punished. From a spanking, to being grounded all the way up to the electric chair. At least, that's how it used to work until Leftists thought one way to achieve utopia meant decriminalization of crime - that and making any opposition to their quest for absolute power a crime against humanity. 100 million martyred souls in just over 100 years (and counting!) is proof positive of that observation. New York City, Chicago and Boston are among the sanctuary cities collapsing after waves of migrants stormed across the open borders. Even cities that once boasted of providing sanctuary to illegal aliens from federal immigration enforcement are now running away from the name. Sanctuary cities were always intended to be destructive. They were not, as many Democrats now wrongly claim, about providing safe harbor to refugees, but about bringing down America. The sanctuary cities did not emerge in response to the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide or any actual genocide, but to provide support and sanctuary for Marxists fleeing the civil wars they had started in Latin America, and then later for Islamic terrorists after September 11. Sanctuary cities were not about helping refugees, but about harboring America’s enemies. . . . . . The larger agenda had less to do with refugees and more to do with aiding Marxist revolutions. . .Et Voila, somehow Bernie Sanders becomes a US Senator and more amazingly (to me anyway) John Brennan not only becomes a CIA agent but rises to ultimately become head of the corporation itself! Invasion USA (1952) and Red Dawn (1985) have got nothing on this madness, my friends. And speaking of invasion USA . . . US Border Patrol agents and suspected Mexican cartel members traded gunfire near the southern border Monday as a group of migrants tried to enter the US illegally, according to a report. The shooting took place around 1:30 p.m. near Fronton, Texas, but no injuries were reported, Customs and Border Protection said in a statement without revealing more details. A group of migrants were trying to cross the Rio Grande when shots first rang out, according to Fox News. Border patrol agents then returned fire at suspected cartel members, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin tweeted earlier Monday, citing law enforcement sources. The scene where the shooting took place remains active with the Customs and Border Protection Office of Professional Responsibility, DHS Office of Inspector General, the FBI and Texas Department of Public Safety all involved in the probe, Customs and Border Protection said Monday night. The shooting comes as President Trump makes cracking down on illegal immigration and fortifying the southern border an early hallmark of his second term in the Oval Office. US officials said last week the Pentagon would start shipping up to 1,500 active duty troops to the Mexican border to join about 2,200 US National Guard and Reserve personnel already in place. Trump was also considering sending up to 10,000 troops to the border as part of the country’s effort to seal the borders, the Washington Post reported last week.Putting aside however many tens of thousands of the more than 40 million illegal aliens already in country are dangerous violent criminals and/or terrorists, the fact is that Mexico or at least large swathes of its territory are controlled by narco-terrorists and that in and of itself presents a grave national security threat that President Trump's response vis a vis sending our military to the border is wholly appropriate and in keeping with his oath of office. Regardless of whether or not you're merely an illiterate peasant coming here to pick lettuce or a drug or human trafficker coming here to rape, murder and pillage, if mass deportations, the deploying of our military to the border and if need be the use of deadly force to stop this makes even one foreigner from even daring to dip a toe into the Rio Grande, then Ana Navarro, you have proven the point! For me, the glycerine crocodile tears of Selena Gomez are akin to the nectar of the Gods. Cry me a river! - The Rio Grande with a flotilla of PBR boats with twin Ma Deuces blazing away fore and aft until the barrels glow red hot. Film and TV star Selena Gomez deleted a video of herself crying over the mass deportation of accused child rapists, human and drug traffickers, gang members, and other violent criminals after receiving public backlash. “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” the Emilia Pérez star said. On another front, which is getting little coverage because of the border, Donald Trump has proposed some intriguing solutions that can address not only our insane national debt but the metastasis of an ever intrusive and oppressive bureaucracy that threatens our prosperity and liberty that are of course linked. President Trump has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to making America great again by proposing a return to the economic policies that once made the United States the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world, namely ending the federal income tax. In a speech Monday evening, Trump outlined his vision for reviving America's economic golden age through a strategic use of tariffs, a policy that has historically proven to be immensely beneficial for the country. Trump began by emphasizing the potential for rapid economic growth, stating, "America is going to be very rich again and it's going to happen very quickly." He then delved into the historical context, highlighting the period from 1870 to 1913 as "the richest period in the history of the United States." During this era, the United States relied heavily on tariffs, which Trump noted was a key factor in the nation's prosperity. One of the most compelling points Trump made was the establishment of the Great Tariff Commission of 1887. This commission was tasked with a unique and enviable problem: deciding what to do with the enormous sums of money generated by tariffs. Trump explained, "And this commission had one function, what to do with all the money that we took in. It was so enormous that they had no idea—it was a blue ribbon committee set up in 1887—and what to do with all of the money that we had." This historical context underscores the immense wealth that tariffs brought to the United States. It raises questions that we here have debated and discussed for a long time. Namely, what is supposed to be the purpose of the federal government and what are we willing to cede to it in the name of our safety and security, personal and national? It is one thing, and indeed a very good thing to pay down the national debt that will one day destroy us. That is if erased borders and naked tyranny in and out of government doesn't turn the next generation into brainwashed zombies as it did perhaps much of the last two or three. Have a great day. Hearings this week for RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel. Each will be attacked, as the reeling, desperate democrats badly need a scalp, and these are the likeliest and most politically hirsute targets. It is imperative that all three take an offensive, defiantly populist posture; that they take absolutely zero shit and even hurl it back in the faces of their inquisitors. Each has a huge and natural advantage in this respect -- they are reformers of conspicuously corrupted systems. The democrats (and RINOs) must be forced to defend these systems and, in the case of the Republicans at least, shamed into publicly repudiating by voting to approve all three.
I predict they will all prevail, though not before some wild moments. Posted by: Ordinary American at January 28, 2025 07:47 AM (ZlOcj) 23

The Trump administration placed "a number" of @USAID officials (U.S. Agency of International Development) on administrative leave after suspecting that they are conspiring to circumvent President Trump's executive orders on the halting of federal aid funds to overseas programs and DEI initiatives, according to an agency-wide email (attached to this post). "We've identified several actions within USAID that appear to be designed to circumvent the President's Executive Orders and the mandate from the American people," Jason Gray, the acting USAID administrator, said in the email. "As a result, we have decided to put a number of USAID employees on administrative leave with full pay and benefits until further notice while we complete our analysis of these actions." I wrote about the corrupt practice at USAID during Trump's first term in office, in which top officials retaliated against Mark Moyar, a Trump appointee assigned to ferret out agency waste and abuse, by yanking his security clearance and pushing him out of the agency. Somebody penned a good article, basically all the woke shit is “luxury beliefs”. Government has to take care of the big stuff first.
It is axiomatic that if your local government is talking about fine-tuning the weather a hundred years from now, they aren’t doing what they are supposed to be doing. Police and Fire are the big ticket items. Roads, plowing, garbage, etc. The debacle in LA is almost perfectly aligned. They failed at their basic jobs, and focused on all this wacked out stuff. Intentions don’t count, nor should they. As far as the national government, one of the few responsibilities is “protect the various states from invasion”. The usual suspects seem to have no problem looking the other way, or even facilitating that. Fail. Posted by: Common Tater at January 28, 2025 07:58 AM (HhTfM) 47

Blah Blah says Trumpf is wrong about the income tax. Instead of eliminating it, it should be tripled for those making less than a million dollars a year as they do not need that money anyways and those funds can be used to pay for social security and medicare to keep those of us on fixed incomes in a lifestyle we are accustomed to living in our Golden Years. In the real world, upper management makes their decisions based on the needs of the organization's mission, not held hostage to some whiney, entitled, ungrateful employee. What freaking narcissists. The whole organization must revolve around the feelings of certain clock punchers. Cogs in the machine are replaceable, or sometimes discovered to be unnecessary in the first place. It raises questions that we here have debated and discussed for a long time. Namely, what is supposed to be the purpose of the federal government and what are we willing to cede to it in the name of our safety and security, personal and national?
------------- After initially being attracted to radical libertarian ideas (The Austrian School, Ayn Rand, and the Anarcho-Capitalist Utopian Crowd), I remember reading an editorial by William Safire; paraphrasing, he stated something along the lines of: "A liberal is one who values safety & security over liberty & freedom; a conservative is one who values the opposite: liberty & freedom over safety & security." It was for the first hundred years this country existed. Even if it isn't enough for 100% of our funding it could definitely make a huge contribution and then some sort of consumption tax could be used to provide extra. Tubal, America was founded on excise tax and tariffs. Income tax was ruled unconstitutional.
Tobacco, maligned though it is, provided a lot of revenue early on. Nobody could in the colonies could compete with British textiles. Tariffs provide protection for fledlging industries. New Englsnd could not have started the way it did. America has to produce things people want to buy. When was the last time a politician talked about “Favorable Balance of Trade”? Ours went negative about 1974 and never looked back. So did wages. We can’t continue to borrow from say, China, and then use it to buy their stuff. "Federal bureaucrats have been a barrier as opposed to a facilitator of so the federal resources."
Mostly because of all the corruption that goes behind institutional, consequence free organizations. FEMA was allowed to wear the Cloak Of Perfection in that to criticize their execution was to claim that you hated people and wanted them to suffer. IOW, it was not possible to hold FEMA accountable because lizard brain thinking would translate it into FEMA=Bad rather FEMA=Good because their mission was to help. When you have zero accountability and no matter what you do its considered the province of angels, then corrupt leadership can make deals with grifters, scam artists, family members and other people who charge 10x more for a given service - or not perform the service at all. And FEMA employees had to defend that relationship. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at January 28, 2025 08:22 AM (a4flb) 127

An income tax has always been constitutional under the general taxing power of Congress. All the 16A does is remove the apportionment requirement.
In a nutshell, a stupid SCOTUS ignored a shit ton of precedent and said that now magically income from property (rent, etc) had to be apportioned, but income from labor didn't. So the 16A exists to remove that requirement. I also saw yesterday that amid all of this was a call for a gold standard. That tells me none of this is serious. Tariffs provide protection for fledlging industries.
Which led to out-of-control labor unions. Any system, that is allowed to stay in place, will eventually be fully corrupted as people, being the reprobates most of us are, will figure out ways to game it. So we have a "Fair Tax" or "Tariff & Excise" or any other scheme for separating money from one party and granting it to another, will eventually be taken over by a third party that finds a way to attach itself and leech ever increasing amounts from it, until the scheme itself is broken and dies. USAID basically IS the CIA. It's the organization that is used to launder billions on behalf of the CIA and their partner the State Dept. Look at any Color Revolution and you will see USAID. Same with things like pandemic response. Same with censorship. USAID is officially under the State Dept. but unofficially so is the CIA. They work as a team just like the DOJ and FBI does domestically. And when needed the money flows through back channels and made up groups like CISA to handle domestic censorship and election corruption. It's a giant snake pit and hundreds of billions could be saved gutting that group. Posted by: JackStraw at January 28, 2025 08:36 AM (LkLld) 180
Tariffs, income tax reform... all that stuff is hedging by the administration. Claim this is what you're going to do or want, knowing full well it's impossible. But the other side(s) may go ahead and give you some of what you ask for to avoid a lengthy political fight that would expose things they'd rather not have the public notice.
I don't think any of the big policy changes Trump is floating are going to be EO's as he knows they'll only last so long as his supporters are in a position to maintain them. Get rid of auto-withholding - force the people to cut the check to the federal government. Suddenly “credits” and “refunds” won’t be effective anymore.
Withholding, in part, came as the obvious solution to the fact few people want to pay income taxes and if there is already a huge debt collecting industry to support collecting invoices from real private services rendered, imagine what collections would look like at scale. Also, since several generations of public education have failed to teach the basics in budgeting, and this is obvious in the numbers of people who aren't liquid enough for a $500 emergency, more money would be spent collecting than in using what is collected. One is that any Senator can put a one-time, one-week hold on a nominee in committee. Schiff did that to Bondi so the committee cannot meet on her nomination until tomorrow. Once she gets voted out they'll schedule floor debate, vote for cloture (in which the usual suspects will vote with the Dems), start a 30 hour clock before the actual vote... In theory, these things exist so that someone can get more time for debate and try to move things in their direction but the Senate hasn't been a deliberative body in decades, at least. Spook agency cutouts go way back. NIH did a whole bunch of skeevy stuff going way back.
It isn’t widely known, but the reason Charles Manson and his “family” was never arrested until they started slicing and dicing the Beautiful People, he was part of a government funded study on “Communal Living”. Ordinarily at least in 1968, someone on Federal parole isn’t even allowed to hang around with sketchy people. Chuck ran a stolen car ring. Sold narcotics. Underage prostitution. Credit card fraud. Etc. It was the prosecution that blocked his parole records from being introduced at trial. That never happens. The parole officer only had one (1) client. Charles. There was some nexus with the Berkely Free Clinic. He lived right around the corner for a while. 1969 America was not ready to hear the Manson gang was being “studied” by a NIH grant and a bunch of spooks. ——— Yes, of course. And big ticket items like planes. Those are bright spots. But the overall balance of trade went negative 50 years ago. This is the problem. A “reserve currency” status has allowed the government to export inflation. Huge amounts of dollars that circulate outside the US. “It’s our dollar, but it’s your problem” is how Arthur Burns or somebody put it. Sure people want to abuse other people and not pay them a fair wage nothing new about that.. the French have random people from afar come in and pick their vines during the harvest for wine that doesn’t mean the people were allowed to live there from their own in. The French are a bad example at this moment because they have made at least as much a mess of their country as we have and likely more. My point is there are ways to allow migrant farm workers to come in and pick a crop. We have done this for a multitude of decades.

One of the interesting aspects of modern leftist discussion is that it completely ignores whatever arguments the right makes and just jumps to "they are doing this because they are evil" We've had four years of completely unrestricted immigration to the US, and frankly 20 years with few restrictions. Even if you want to try to make the argument that this has helped in some way there is no question that it has negatively impacted a lot of people and those people voted for Trump to end this invasion. How do you end an invasion? You have the military protect the border and to make sure this point is getting made strongly enough THIS IS THE PRIMARY POINT OF HAVING A MILITARY. 84 I am not a professional scribbler but why do so many writers publish articles that could be written as tweets?
Its sort of like that TV crime drama "CSI" where they would make an entire one hour program to center around one forensic trick. Stupid people don't have a well of intelligence and wisdom to draw from, so they hear some slogan or smear that might translate out to a click-bait lead, then wrap it in a deep thick coat of verbiage that can easily be generated by AI. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at January 28, 2025 08:12 AM (a4flb) I think we are inundated by short, mostly useless web articles because: A. Regular writers at bigger websites are under contract to deliver X number of articles per week. B. Articles by contract-writers and independent writers must be at least X number of words and must be no greater than Y number of words. Y is about 1,000 words. Or less. This is due to the short attention spans of more and more people, and more short articles generate more clicks and ad clicks than fewer long articles. JJ, what's your take? The U.S. contribution to WHO was $1.3 billion between 2022 and 2023. The money helps fund public health work including controlling deadly diseases.
Total program budget for WHO for 2022-2023 was $6.7 billion. We paid for 20% of the WHO WTFO???? Posted by: rhennigantx at January 28, 2025 09:02 AM Pretty sure if you dig down deeper into the numbers it was way more than that figure. biden et. al. had all sorts of departments making payments to entities that they had no business doing. The fairest tax, by definition, would be a household tax.
Count up how much money the government needs/wants and divide it by the number of households and everyone gets the same bill. Of course our government spends way too much money for that to work. Pretty much any other tax penalizes something - but certainly sales taxes and tariffs, which penalize buying things are better than our current slate of taxes that penalize working, investing, and owning property. By any measure the WHO failed catastrophically. So even if you see the need for a world wide health organization that works with the UN you should want to fire everyone there and then start over fresh. One of the differences between capitalism and socialism is that in the former most things get done by voluntary associations, often companies but some times social groups.
And since they are voluntary they are easy to punish and reform when they fail at whatever reason they exist for. If Acme Car makes crappy cars people will go get cars elsewhere. If the Free Mason Shriner Elks are supposed to help widows and orphans and spend the money instead on hookers and blow people will stop volunteering for them and so on. But in socialist systems it is almost impossible to do this - when you have an organization like the WHO, or Trabant or whatever, the argument is you need an organization like this so why dissolve the existing one even if it has failed. Just give them more resources/power/training...right? And that means there is almost never any incentive to ever actually deliver on whatever the organization is supposed to be doing. However, it's important to clarify that while the executive order expresses an intent to emphasize consumer choice, it does not directly repeal or invalidate the existing federal efficiency standards set by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. These laws established a minimum efficiency requirement of 45 lumens per watt for general service lighting, which traditional incandescent bulbs do not meet. More on Grok... “Universal” suffrage was a really bad idea.
The problem is Uncle Sugar. In any system where the government gives out gifts and prizes to people based on how they vote the system will get corrupted. If we get a Constitution V2.0 at some point I'd like to see a specific ban on the government spending any money on anything that isn't payment for goods or services. From my experience, the national Park service is not corrupted or at least it can be fixed. Get rid of the top people. There’s a funny thing with the national park service as they don’t hire very often and many people have been with them for decades.

The French could work Turkey, if they dragged along the Brits it would be ugly. I don’t doubt your numbers with turkey, but Iraq was the second or third largest army in the mid 90s. And I know the Turks fight well, but they can’t project force at all the French can and so can the Brits. Compared to us they are all playing romper romper room.

No such word as Bishopedness. The Episcopal Church calls its them Bishops and not Bishopess either . It seems quick likely that the Bishops religion is progressivism with a little bit of Jesus attached. In other words, Jesus was really a 21st century progressive politically speaking and a man who believed in God However since I have not had a discussion with the Bishop about her theological stands I cannot say what she believes about foundational Christian theology Unless they've done an investigation other people here can't either

I know it surprises people, and I know we all for the most part understand. But yes, it is true a very high percentage of Hispanic immigrants to the US. Cannot read or write Spanish. There’s a reason American schools and libraries are taxed beyond belief here. We let in a hoard of people and somehow we are supposed to fix them.
I remember many Spanish language classes in high school and college with native Hispanics who did much worse than I did. They could chat in the language, but they couldn’t read or write it. Posted by: Quint at January 28, 2025 09:33 AM (VKSrC) 387

LIttle reminder to those who do not know: We don't have a tax problem, we have a spending problem. As the great Walter Williams once wrote, if government was spending an appropriate amount of money in the 4-5% of GDP range instead of 20%+, then the income tax necessary to support that would be very small and not onerous.

I know it is a national sport among conservatives to crap on the French. And that’s cool because they do the same to us. But if anyone studies small wars over the last 50 or 60 years, the friendship probably been in two or 300 of them.

Lol damn I hate that type of text. The French have been fighting small wars since the 60s. Most of these are never discussed in western media because there’s no good story to make. And if you wonder what they were doing before the 60s they were fighting small wars then I was just joking about since the 60s.

I quit my mainline church a couple of years ago. I posted about it here on this site. The main line churches are ruins, they are no longer actual churches. Half of their congregate have left and the smart ones took the churches with him. My particular church was overtaken, and the good people died of natural causes. I wish I could explain it better but that’s what happened the left took it over just like the Muslims and comedies took over countries back in the day the exact same thing.

See or hear of no 'real' panic - there are the standard theatrics but nothing new - in Pennsylvania regarding the undocumented - of which there are many - and ICE. In fact, just as reported today via Yahoo dot com: Pittsburgh mayor declares he will not cooperate with ICE on raids: 'People feel scared' Fox News, Lindsay Kornick January 28, 2025 In part, "Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey emphasized Monday that his administration would not be working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest illegal immigrants. Speaking to the Pennsylvania Press Club Monday, Gainey said, "I am not going to be working with ICE. My administration will not work with ICE. We will do whatever is necessary to make our city more welcoming." And so it is, "Welcoming" PA cities and many of the state's counties, even if they're not entirely honest about their categorization. There is also a huge diversity among the undocumented within the state. (It's noticeable that there are big 'pockets' of African and Caribbean folk and then smaller groups of Mexicans in some counties. Reportedly, Dominicans are Cont'd Posted by: L - It's a good day? at January 28, 2025 12:14 PM (NFX2v) 408
on track to become Philadelphia’s largest immigrant group.) And so, the undocumented population of many others states must be similar.
But really, all of it is now 'normal.' The majority of undocumented will gather in cities for aid by foundations, and then move out once they find aid and greater mobility outside. There's money to be made consistently and, in many instances, quickly with and by the great influx and their 'management' thanks to hefty governmental funding. Look at the proliferation of nonprofits and also corporate subsidies for housing, healthcare, heat, water, cable, and so on. (Recently, saw older 3 bedroom rowhouses in decent condition receiving Section 8 approval for rentals near or at $3,500 a month!) Don't say some are ineligible when there are many undocumented adults with children born in the USA and/or also citizen family members. But what becomes an incentive for many to ever make a greater effort to support themselves? As long as there's money to be had, how can unchecked migration be halted without 'redoing' the 14th Amendment, at the minimum? So, for now, looks like it's The Aliens Enemies Act for enforcement until whatever. 😞 Posted by: L - It's a good day? at January 28, 2025 12:14 PM (NFX2v) 409
