I concur, and I wish they'd stop using the "golden age" thing although I get what they are doing (harkening back to the Gilded Age, which we are in a sort of similar setting). If things don't turn out wonderfully overall its gonna sound pretty tarnished. Its super easy to attack someone talking about a "GOLDEN AGE" by simply showing people for whom things suck. Knowing how politicians and Congress like to do things, my fear is that a 'fair consumption tax' will become an additional tax, rather than a replacement for the income tax.
Yeah only way to do it is to eliminate the income tax FIRST, then pass the consumption tax, then pass a constitutional amendment requiring a 2/3rds majority to add an additional tax. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 27, 2025 08:36 PM (2VST1) 115

Our regional dialect doesn’t stray too far from standard Italian. But our town’s dialect is…wtaf??? My folks told me the local dialects developed because they didn’t want outsiders to understand what they were saying. That makes sense, because for centuries they lived in a pretty remote area, and somebody had to really go out of their way to land in my family’s town. So of course the assumption was the stranger was up to no good. Posted by: kallisto at January 27, 2025 08:44 PM (PAvEa) 134

#BREAKING: January 6 Freed Rioter Shot Dead. 📍#Hobart | #Indiana Matthew Huttle, 42, of Hobart, Indiana, a participant in the January 6 Capitol riot who was recently pardoned by newly elected President Trump, was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. when a Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy pulled Huttle’s vehicle over on State Road 14. According to Indiana State Police, the traffic stop escalated as the deputy attempted to arrest Huttle, who allegedly resisted and became involved in a struggle. This confrontation ultimately led the deputy to fire his weapon, fatally wounding Huttle. State police confirmed that Huttle was in possession of a firearm at the time of the stop but provided no further details about the nature of the altercation or the reason for the attempted arrest.
