Good morning kids. It's been one hell of a week, hasn't it? One non-stolen election where for the first time in my lifetime it really seems as if we at a minimum will slam on the brakes and perhaps even have a shot at throwing the crazy train of America's 200-year swan dive towards dissolution into reverse. Much as I loved and appreciated the Ronald Reagan years, it was because he at least halted the incompetence and ineptitude of Jimmy Carter while engendering a sustained economic boom time. And yet, we back slid for a generation. Yes, "it's the economy, stupid" but so much more goes into our security, sanity and lives that we collectively let slip away beginning with the cultural rot that took hold in the 60s and metastasized right up until the present day. Despite that and the brainwashing of several generations of Americans to hate their heritage, country and even themselves,

Somehow, some way, a very large swathe of the citizenry, across generational and cultural/racial divides have taken a good look around and decided that what they are living through and witnessing is just not right. Maybe that explains in a profound way why Trump won and maybe more importantly why Chlamydia dip Harris and the Dems Lost. Even with that, my glass half empty side still reflects why I'm not so sanguine about Los Angeles and California in general even after an entire city has been turned into a smoldering run that the citizens will perhaps at best change deck chairs on the Titanic by blaming Newsom and Bass and not on the madness between their ears, which is of course the same madness between the ears of whoever might replace them.

But I digress because this story alone is indicative of the Trump effect and what it portends for enemies foreign and domestic alike, please God!

President Trump vowed to launch a trade war with Colombia and impose an “emergency 25% tariff” on Sunday after the South American country turned back two US military deportation flights.
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia,” Trump wrote Sunday.
“This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people,” he said, adding that Petro’s decision has “jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States.”
. . . He also called for a travel ban, visa revocations on Colombian government officials, visa sanctions on party members and government supporters, enhanced customs and border protection inspections of any Colombian national and banking and financial sanctions.

The Colombian government “agreed to all” of President Donald Trump’s terms regarding the “unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia” who are being deported from the United States. In a press release, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained that based on the agreement, “fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions” would be “held in reserve” and not signed unless the Colombia government failed to honor the agreement.Leavitt added that “visa sanctions” issued by the State Department would remain in place “until the first planeload of Colombian deportees is successfully returned.”
Leavitt also noted that “today’s events make clear to the world that America is respected again.” The press release comes after Colombian President Gustavo Petro backed down on refusing to accept two deportation flights from the U.S. and said he would “send his presidential plane to personally pick up the deported migrants.” “The government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on U.S. military aircraft, without limitation or delay,” Leavitt said in a statement. “Based on this agreement, the fully drafted IEEPA tariffs and sanctions will be held in reserve, and not signed, unless Colombia fails to honor this agreement.”

And we’re not going to help federal officials just drag them away because somebody pointed at them and said, oh, that person’s brown or that person’s not from here. Check it out. Maybe they’re undocumented.”

From what I gather, the Cartels have locked down ports of entry to the point it's dangerous to try entering the US legally. The cartels want their cut, period.

In all of northern Mexico, and also the Yucatán area (at least) the Cartels are the defacto government. The central government doesn’t even try to assert control anymore.
Getting rid of the cartels is a worthy goal, but not many people understand what it would take to - it would the same level of difficulty as Israel is facing in getting rid of Hamas and Hezbollah. And it will require the same methods.

The insanity in CA ER's been going on for at least a decade if not longer. Urgent care requires cash up front, generally $20, though it may be more, now. Funny thing, that up front cost seems to be enough to weed out the people who see the ER as a way to get a free doctor visit. I might add, CA ER's, you see the illegals, they all have really expensive cell phones but, somehow, they don't have the cash to pay to see a doctor.

Yes, my urgent care was empty in December.
Of course, I also got substandard care with no lidocaine for a dislocation (shocked my hemo onc, who has also had my issue) and an ill-fitting shoe that somehow I paid for separately than my urgent care co-pay (yeah, that $4 bill annoyed me more than it should)...and now I know to demand drugs in the future. But care is a higher level at ERs with actual doctors, and not just PAs...

I'm not one to take everything I see on the internet at face value, it is probably an op of some form to get folks to follow the laser pointer like kittens.

Anyway, what I was struck by the 3rd world look about the place. It is a railyard, I'm not expecting much. I think two things are operating here:

1) There's no denying that Mahomes is a great QB, but there's also no denying that he's now the fair-haired, golden child of the NFL. He makes them a lot of money. So maybe he gets some leeway to operate in. Between him and Tay-Tay the Chiefs are the New and Improved "America's Team".

2) There's no denying that Andy Reid's a great coach, but there's also no denying that his teams tend to play kinda dirty with general play involving fouls and stuff that should get penalties. But, often don't. I think it's as simple as this. He's the kind of coach that lets his team know it's okay to commit penalties rather than let the other team score or make a good play. Make the refs make the call. If they don't, great. If they do , meh, the other team didn't score or get a first down or whatever.

I don’t think that call was Chiefs-specific… the modern NFL stinks because no one knows the definition of a catch and you see that kind of nonsense in almost every game (complete the process of the catch lawyer type BS). The NFL painted themselves into a corner years ago when they said it can be a catch even if the ball touches the ground as long as the “receiver controls the ball” and it doesn’t move…. That started us down this stupid road. It should be: if the ball hit the ground it’s not a catch, period

All politics is local. Can't help but feel - or is it be? - pensive as I read about all of the Biden-Harris "programs" put on steroids - formerly O&Joe programs - through the American Rescue Plan Act (2021) & Inflation Reduction Act (2022).
