Time sure does fly. Thanks for pushing the pause button and hanging out here for a little while tonight! If you are a fan of the CHEFS or the ELGSES (nope - neither are typos), congrats on your team reaching that game with the unmentionable name.
Trump 47 - First Week Trump Has 'Hit the Ground Running' President Donald Trump, in the first week of his return to the White House, has "hit the ground running," former Rep. Pete King said on Newsmax Sunday. "What struck me most is the energy he's shown," the New York Republican said on Newsmax's "Wake Up America." "I mean, he's done more in the first four or five or six days than Joe Biden did in the last three or four years. And having been in Washington, I'll tell you, the energy level, the enthusiasm." Matters were different when Trump first came to office in 2017, he added, because people did not know what he was going to do. Everything, everywhere, all at once. Donald Trump has shaken up America and the world in an extraordinary first week back in the White House that saw him remake the US political universe in his own image. On his first day, Trump signed more executive orders than any president in history, consolidating his power over every lever of the US government. *** The theme has been "promises made, promises kept": starting with his mass pardons for the 2021 US Capitol *edit/emphasis courtesy of your humble host Fashion Segment (H/T to Ben Had for the idea) Inauguration Day 2025 was memorable and exciting for many reasons. This evening, the ONT would like to take a look at some of the fashion on display on the first day of "The Golden Age of America".
Check out this "Inauguration Fashion Roundup" X thread from Justine Bateman. Here's another one from Maggie Howell. For a very interesting look at fashion history, check out the Fashion History Timeline from the State University of New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. The Fashion History Timeline is an open-access source for fashion history knowledge, featuring objects and artworks from over a hundred museums and libraries that span the globe. The Timeline website offers well-researched, accessibly written entries on specific artworks, garments and films for those interested in fashion and dress history. Started as a pilot project by FIT art history faculty and students in the Fall of 2015, the Timeline aims to be an important contribution to public knowledge of the history of fashion and to serve as a constantly growing and evolving resource not only for students and faculty, but also for the wider world of those interested in fashion and dress history (from the Renaissance scholar to the simply curious). Accurate knowledge of dress and fashion history is vital to the practice and study of not only art history, but also archaeology, classics, history, literature and visual culture. Yet analyzing and understanding dress can be daunting to scholars and students who have not been trained in fashion history. The Fashion History Timeline is intended to demystify dress and fashion, offering the academic community and the public an easily accessible starting place for their research. Decade and century overview pages offer visual examples of period styles, a visually rich fashion dictionary defines key terms, and hundreds of examples of dress analysis from antiquity to the present day model the complicated task of discerning whether something is fashionable or merely everyday dress, as well as the historical implications of that distinction. The Timeline equips students and researchers with essential facts, vocabulary, and models of analysis. In the future, with further funding, we plan to add expert-written overviews of period styles, biographies of 18th- and 19th-century fashion designers, and coverage of non-western fashion as well. The website tracks fashion from The Ancient World all the way up through the 2010-2019 decade. Taking a trip in the AOSHQ wayback machine, let's revisit a Saturday afternoon Chess/Dress thread from the late great Oregon Muse (do not attempt to comment on old threads). Some of you may remember these regular threads on Saturday afternoons. During the Trump 45 era, OM began to include a "Dress Pr0n For The 'Ettes" segment in his weekly Chess Thread. He would often include photos of Kate Middleton and Melania Trump. The photo below is from the final Chess/Dress Thread of the Trump 45 term, posted on Jan. 16, 2021. If the Horde is interested, perhaps the ONT or some other regular thread might feature a dress pr0n segment during the Trump 47 era. Please let your thoughts be known in the comments. DJ Doof – Eddie Van Halen Version The legendary Eddie Van Halen was born on this date 70 years ago. No discussion of the all-time greatest guitarists can be valid if EVH is not mentioned. Tonight we celebrate his greatness, along with that of his extremely talented son Wolfgang.
10 Stories Behind Van Halen Songs That Make Them Unique Finish What You Started This is the only Van Halen song that Sammy Hagar plays guitar on. Also, Sammy tells the story on the Howard Stern show. Eddie came knockin' on his window, throwing rocks to wake up Sam, and Sammy says he was trying to work out a little evening plan with his lady. Ed wouldn't let up. So Sammy grabbed his guitar and they sat on the beach and worked the whole song out. Sammy said he had the idea that he might get back in the bedroom and his wife would beg him to finish what he started. Indeed, that never happened. Sammy said the night was a bust, he went back inside after the song was done and his wife was asleep.Check out the whole article and read about 3 other songs from the Hagar era and 6 from the Roth era. The song "Distance" from the debut album of Wolfgang Van Halen's band Mammoth WVH. Dust warning - video features home video and other personal footage of Eddie and Wolfie. Bottom half of this photo sure does tie in to EVH's reputation. If he were alive today, which do you think he'd say is a better approach? I don't care much for Melania's taste. There, I said it. She always looks great, because she's pretty, but I didn't like the red licorice string dress the last time, or the black flappy banner dress this time.
Ok, that's sounds harsher than I meant. She was gorgeous in both dresses, but to me she always juuust misses perfection, and tends to be costumey. I think Usha has better taste, although I hope she's not going to be like The Princess of Wales, and wear a lot of blue. She, like Catherine, is too warm to really wear blue. That gown in a deep green would have been perfection. Alas, she had to settle for merely looking stunning. 😊 Posted by: Tammy-al Thor at January 26, 2025 10:18 PM (Vvh2V) 69

Memory from the dark ages. As a warrant officer candidate, i was poor and Smash & I were living on maybe $700 / month. Smash had a job at the rio grande gazete as an illustrator/type setter. While I attended wareant officer school in this new fangled air defense system Patriot. My commuter ride was a Harley Sportster 1100, with a 5 gallon gas tank mod. Tank had a viking babe weilding a sword. I eventually dumped the Harley for a ragged out cj7 (wish I still had it!) with a Van Halen concert bumper sticker. Unbeknownst to me, a class of newbie enlisted were going through Patriot training at the same time and admired both the Harley babe and the Van Halen sticker. Three of that class wound up in my battery and gave me endless grief over getting rid of the "viking babe withthe bewbs and sword". Thank you, Doof for unlocking this core memory again. Sp4 Hornbuckle and her husband Sp4 Hauf both became Ft. Bliss post soldiers of the year. Sgt. (Forgot his name, damnit) became post NCO of the year. 😊 Posted by: Tammy-al Thor =================== Oh no NO no no no. She's perfection every time. Usha is so far off it's sad. Took off her jeans and t-shirt, grabbed a shower, pinned up her hair, and threw on some things she had in her closet that didn't match but she just wanted to keep warm. Elon has improved mightily since I met him in the early Aughties.
I worked for a(n) LSP, and he poached several of our staff for SpaceX. He is definitely on the spectrum, but he was very nice to staff like receptionist, servers, etc. I was staff myself, so I say that from first hand experience. Very polite and considerate. His enthusiasm in endearing, but I'd hate to work for him. Very intense and focused. First time I met him, I thought he had a speech impediment. 😂 I had never heard a South African accent before. To each their own! Did you not like Usha's purple gown, either? The warm pink dress she wore to the swearing in did veer on bathrobe, but the color suited her nicely. Do you really think the beige trench dress abve is flattering to Melania?! Again, she's always gorgeous, but I just don't care for her taste, as a rule. Because mine is so impeccable, you understand! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Posted by: Tammy-al Thor ================ High-five, so is mine! lol No, and the Oscar de la Renta that Usha wore to the Vice Presidents Dinner or whatever it was adds another nail to her fashion coffin. She reduces anything she wears to Drab. There's a messy bun, and then there's a bun that she jammed up with pins and it's messy. The big pink coat with the pale shapeless boots was an incoherent pairing with no story. Overall, I have one word for her styling and wardrobe: perfunctory. I watched a few moments of the “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” part of the Vance ‘interview’ and it seems a stretch to call her a journalist or reporter. It wasn’t an interview, just her arguing and being rude.
Vance should have pointed out, maybe he did, in no uncertain terms that monetary inflation represents a permanent loss of a certain purchasing power of the currency and it is cumulative. That doesn’t come back. Ever. And it doesn’t matter who is in the White House. Elevated grocery prices, fuel oil or gasoline, diesel, rent, everything - those may come down, and they may go up, but these are market forces at work. Democrats have conflated these things that are different things. The Fed “targets” a roughly 50 percent loss in purchasing power of the dollar every 20 years. And then you pay tax on the nominal “gains” on your assets and investments upon sale. If leftists try to impose a “wealth tax” then that would apply immediately. For the 2017 inauguration he wore a red tie. It went well with the navy suit he wore then. Well, this has been a Sunday. Spent the first half of the day serving at church, then a bit of food shopping. Roasted a nice NY Strip in the fireplace and paired it with a very good Malbec from (checks bottle) Argentina. Kept the fire going for an after dinner Nica Libre paired with a well-crafted Manhattan. Listening to the rain bouncing off the eaves and contemplating an early retirement to bed. Got some decisions to make this week and will need a clear mind...or maybe I'll just flip a coin..

The Middle East has gotten weird in the last few years. In the old days Israel was America's main ally and Syria and Iraq were the Soviet's. Shrub and Obarky handed Iraq over to Iran, and while Russia's boy Assad was clearly anti-Israel, the US started arming jihadis of very allegiances in Syria leading to an ISIS veteran now heading up their government. I assume he'll be a lot more anti-Israel then Assad, but I guess we will see. Posted by: 18-1 at January 26, 2025 11:33 PM (t0Rmr) 277

Shithole cities hide their crime rates in our new, completely dishonest world. Denver is no different - the authorities there refuse to report any property crime, and most violent crime. But murder is harder to hide than rape, robbery, and assault.
Always track murders in your cities. Your local police goons will cover up a lot of them - but you can follow the trend line, anyway. Murder rates will tell you about the relative rise in crime your local government is sweeping under their rug. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at January 27, 2025 12:26 AM (BI5O2) 356

They messed around with it for a while, but it wasn't a popular drink there at the time. Studebakers were really good vehicles according to my dad.
Posted by: rancherbob My dad had 3 Studebakers when I was growing up. A red 1946 pickup truck, the last year with exterior running boards. A cream 1950 Starlite coupe, with a chrome bullet nose and wrap around rear windows, very futuristic design for the time. And a maroon 1941 Studebaker with suicide rear doors. When he was restoring the '41, my job (age 9) was to painstakingly paint the hundreds of little red divots in the beauty rims for each wheel. Hated those rims, but they were good times with my dad. Hey Horde, how are you? It has been such a great week. Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz =============== Hey, Debby, talk about a week! Just for schadenfreude, I watched a lefty podcaster interview Rachel Maddow. They were talking on Wednesday for the video to be posted today (Sunday), and saying "Well, goodness knows what could happen between today and Sunday!!" lol they had NO idea... Morning, insomaniacals! I haven't been up this early since, well, before the Inauguration! Yes, last Friday I had to go to my electron mine, but that day I was racing to get out the door an hour early to beat traffic I expected on the bridge.
Yes, Miss Linda often says she misses the "dress pr0n," though not in those words. I can't imagine what Saturday thread would be a good one to insert some of that. The Hobby Thread? Maybe on Sunday . . .? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 27, 2025 03:18 AM (omVj0) 440
Anyway, as our former and unlamented pretend president used to say! It's 60 F. with light winds, a good workout setup. I'll head out after the Fugitive episode that's on MeTV.

Now I don't know where they've gotten off to. At the risk of repeating what everybody else has said, it has been a whirlwind week. I heard on FoxNews's radio updates that Colombia refused to take a planeload of migrants (after agreeing to it and reneging once the plane was in the air). So Trump warned Colombia that their tariffs would go from 25% to 50%. Is that right? Does Colombia send us much except coffee?
