They all want to nibble around the edges and give rebates, tax credits, but they are still killing people. I’m not persuaded government “needs” tax revenue when they have a printing press anyway. But regardless, tax rates now start at 15% on income of 35,000. That looks pretty sad, it happened in roughly 100 years.

You see, what happened here, and I apologize if I wasn't totally clear about this when I first came in, is that we were discussing having a really big shindig, I mean, quite big, you could almost even call it a blowout, for the upcoming big game. I said, "We'll need more space for beer," so I was told that I should go out and get a yeti. So, after a not quite as quick hop to the Himalayas as I was expecting, and a rather difficult experience clearing customs, I arrived home with the new...pet? roommate? (I'm guess we're still figuring out the official status) she let me know that she was expecting me to go to Home Depot and pick up a cooler. I hope this clarifies things for you.

It was apportioned by population. That's where the infamous 3/5 clause came in. It was a measure of economic value, not some weird human worth scale.
So if Congress needs $2 trillion, you apportion that by population to the states, and each kicks in it share. How they do it is up to them. Oil states just use duties on that. It's totally up to them, just pay on time.

One of the first act of Congress when it was first established was the Tariff Act of 1789. That was the major funding source of the federal government for over a century.
That was the original flow of money. We were never intended to have a federal government that needed a federal income tax. What has been flipped is a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the federal government and the states. This is exactly what my little state feared and caused it to hold for a year before signing the Constitution.

I agree with your statements about the plan being poorly executed by over-the-hill top RN commanders.
However, I've read some persuasive analyses that the guns defending the Turkish Straits were too well sited and protected for even more aggressive Brit commanders to have succeeded. It's argued that this was a failure of Brit Naval intelligence. The Turks had competent German military advisors by the time of the Gallipoli campaign, too.

Even there, he got screwed, because he was told he would get a brigade and later a division, and then none of those were offered.

Back pay is one thing, but promotion is as much about abilities as anything else. An E-4 who had four years in and was then booted and now, four years later is still an E-4 with only E-4 experience. But had he remained on Active Duty, he'd be a sergeant or staff sergeant, with the basic NCO school behind them.
And will those going back need an abbreviated Basic Training? Marksmanship, drill, chemical proficiency, PT, etc.?
My cousin got back from 6 years in the Hanoi Hilton and he never fitted into his year group again. Same kind of issue.

We're talking about two years, so a little different. Promotin would depend on having had the right schools in place. I would not expect a promotion because I never went to the next level of school.

Thank you. I had 21 years in, so I was able to retire, which many people were not able to do. That's also the source of the debate. I'm happy and moving on with my life, but if there is financial compensation, I need to look at it because we have issues with the roof, etc.

There's this really friendly little black kitty that hangs around the facility, which is in a residential area. Cat probably lives nearby. Anyway, that cat 'greeted' me the other day in the parking lot and then jumped into my car! Had a good laugh & let him (?) snuff around before scooping him out. Grabbed my bags of stuff and the lil sh@t jumped back in & up onto the dash, where he stretched out for the sunbeams. *sigh* I took a picture of him there, then scooped him out again. LOL.
Hubby said kitty jumped into his lap this morning when he went out for a smoke. (They allow it, with supervision) He likes the cat, made him happy as he misses his Little Buddy at home.

At least credit the time for pension purposes. My dad served four years in WWII, when he got a Post Office job in 1968 they credited his 4 years of WWII service and he retired in 1984 with a 20 year pension.

The language of the 14th is pretty clear. The words "subject to the jurisdiction of" pretty much says it all. Illegal aliens are not subject to the jurisdiction of the united states, but instead to the country they came from. Children born here to diplomats aren't automatically citizens, because their parents are subjects to the jurisdiction of the country they are visiting from and not the US. There are a shit ton of writings from that time that explain exactly what the meaning is. The big problem is the sacks of shit on the supreme court who can't fucking read.

There are a few rivers that cross the 49th south to north. Kettle River in B.C./Washington does it twice, IIRC. Once for certain. Red River in NoDak crosses into Manitoba, I think.

I did 10 years in the mil. Got out on a hardship to take care of my dad who was dying. 10 years in the Post Office. No pension. Broke, I am living in a fucking trailer. I am eligible me a small postal pension, but one must be a current FERS employee to apply. They won’t talk to you otherwise.
I could have “bought back” my military time, and applied it to the postal retirement, but that too takes months and months, for OPM to perform their magic and determine how many thousands of dollars (plus interest) you owe. And . Gotta be currently employed. I submitted the paperwork when employed, but it was rejected for something stupid. I was busy working 12 hour days, put it off ..
The whole fucking thing is a sick joke.

Funny, I think that’s William’s best work. Every time I watch it I find something new in it - it’s probably he most spiritual of any of his scripts (Burton’s character struggles with his faith/lack of faith thoughout) and I suspect a lot of that struggle is autobiographical.
And somewhat unusual for Williams, it has a very redemptive/hopeful ending.

The old CSRS retirement was a different deal. Later employees contribute to FERS. They have more rules and regulations and bullshit.
Like having to “buy back” military time, to apply it to the new federal service with another government agency. The government made it this labyrinth system, because guys known as “triple dippers”. Do 20 in the military, retire at 40. Then get a job with the USDA for another 20, now you’re 60 - and soon eligible for Social Security. Etc.

Thats pretty much right. My grandmother was born here. Her father was born in Italy, but worked all over the world, and had a visa here, so she was considered a US citizen. She also had a twin sister. They went back to italy when she was 1 years old. In 1938 when she was in her later 20's she said ok, war is coming, fuck this place, and came back to the US. At the time my father wasn't born yet, but she had my father's sister and older brother who were born in Italy. Dad's sister was allowed to leave with my grandmother, but not his brother, because of some frigging law of Mussolini that had a cut off date, and my father's brother was born 1 year before the cutoff, so he had to stay behind with my grandfather for a year. Meanwhile, my grandmother's twin fucked up and voted in some Italian election and lost her US citizenship, something my grandmother in her wisdom never did. I'm not sure who actually pulled her citizenship. It's possible Italy claimed her. The twin ended up staying behind and got the shit bombed out of her town in the war

This was many years ago - retired in 1984.
The company I retired from stopped offering a pension plan in 2007, two years after I joined, so I just squeaked under the wire.
Under the typical corporate pension plan, (I'm collecting from three different employers) after 5 years of service you qualified for a pension of 2% per year of your average salary for the last 5 years minus a social security offset. After 10 years of service you'd qualify for your full pension (based on years of service) payable starting at age 60. After 20 years of service the 2% dropped to 0.5% for each additional year.
In practice it worked out to about 1.25% for each year of service.

In contrast, both the Santa Ana and San Gabriel rivers drop over 1000' in about 50 miles, give or take. That's why our 'rivers' never have more than a trickle of water in them unless it's raining.
