Evening and morning, late toilers and early risers (I almost wrote "easy riders"!). Got to hustle today; I've got to back to the office, and the bridge I need to cross will probably only have one lane open in each direction this morning. It will be a clusterf*** of major proportions. If I'm wrong, great; if I'm right . . . Anyway, I plan to leave the house about a half an hour early, and expect at least an hour's commute. Think good thoughts for me!

They think abandoning someone to their sins is mercy.
They think lying to the subjugated is speaking truth to power. They think a man dismantling a dictatorship is a dictator. Their entire worldview is predicated on rejecting reality, and using the resulting cognitive dissonance to short circuit rational thought and replace it with a flight to some imagined safety. "Nothing makes sense anymore, but at least these kind people understand it and will protect me". Garbage in, garbage out. And it's absolutely insidious. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 24, 2025 04:53 AM (omVj0) I believe this is an incorrect understanding of the situation. Judges are required to approve dropping charges. This is, theoretically, a protection against favoritism. The judge accepted dropping the charges so the two people will be freed BUT they did not accept dropping with prejudice so the charges can be filed again in the future. Their ruling is only bullshit if you're aware that the general understanding of what occurred on Jan 6th is a lie and/or you accept election results. Obviously, this judge "knows" what the MSM tells them and is a warrior for their Precious Democracy. They should be impeached and removed but they never be convicted in the Senate because the Dems are, pretty much, all treasonous snakes. @23/Wolfus: "What will Trump do about this judge who refuses to release two of the J6ers? His authority supersedes hers, but what can he do?"
Beryl Howell is an Article III judge, so the only way to remove her is for Congress to impeach her. Now failing that, the decision she wrote that dismissed that case without prejudice where Trump's EO asks the Attorney General to pursue dismissal with prejudice should be appealable to a higher court, asking it to review the decision based on the fact that this judge didn't follow the request of a President acting within his Constitutional powers, and they should also be able to introduce the accusation of bias based on past cases against Trump, and this judge's participate in same. That could well have some bearing on the outcome of the appealed case. The result should be that the decision gets remanded back to Judge Howell with an order to dismiss that case with prejudice, or the higher court could simply do it themselves. I still think that impeachment would be proper as a more permanent solution. However, we're asking Congress to "do the right thing". Good luck with that. Reddit over the last half week or so has been an endless parade of pseudo-moderators announcing that this-or-that subreddit is now taking a stand against naziism by banning links to X because Musk is now allegedly openly a nazi.
They also banned a user for posting a link to an ADL comment saying that Musk wasn't a Nazi. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at January 24, 2025 05:55 AM (ExV1e) 88

My understanding of the release of the remaining assassination papers is this: The order directs top administration officials to present a plan to declassify the documents within 15 days.
Of course the plan will get litigated before a Hawaiian judge who will then issue a ruling that they can't be released. The potential for this to be tied up into courts for years is legit, especially because it's an opportunity to play #resistance. Or until there's an accident at the archive and they all burn up. As reported earlier today, the proposed rules maintained and expanded a power-sharing arrangement between Republicans and Democrats, granting Democrat vice-chairs significant authority and introducing pathways for Democrat control of new standing subcommittees. While Republicans would only be eligible to serve as chairs, all vice-chairs would be required to be Democrats.

If you used to lose a side mirror, you were out maybe $250.00 including painting the new mirror housing. Now? well, the housing mounts side/rear viewing camera alone will set you back. I do appreciate members of the defrocked fifty-one intelligence frauds who signed the Hunter Biden computer warning letter telling the rest of us, "You don't know nuffin" regarding their (to their own minds) subtle word play therein. Guys and gals, you don't get to set the terms of understanding and judging your intentions when the whole world got to see and review your handiwork. You knew full well what effect your letter would have on the 2020 election campaign and if there were clear "misreadings" of what you meant, you took no steps at that time to set the record straight. You are in the same boat with Fauci as he claimed that clear gains of function evident in the Coof virus were not due to gain of function research. All of you threw yourselves into that briar patch. "I soon discovered those air bags and related systems would around $20K to repair - instant total."
And that is why in some cities, Baltimore included, vehicle airbag theft is rampant. Stolen devices are sold by the thief to shoddy repair facilities to fix damaged cars, and in some cases, the repair shop bills insurance coma the full price for a new airbag, while installing the stolen, much cheaper one. 161 I get it. Republicans can't pardon for "any crimes they might have committed", but Democrats can.
Might have committed = not necessarily a conviction. Posted by: rickb223 at January 24, 2025 06:54 AM (OOnTd) This is a separate situation. For a few of the J6 defendants who were still on trial, Trump did not pardon them, probably to keep the stigma of having accepted a pardon off of them. Instead, he instructed the DoJ to drop all charges with prejudice, which would basically be the same for their future as a not guilty verdict. The problem is, the judge on the case has some leeway in deciding whether the charges can be dropped with prejudice or without prejudice. The judge is deciding to only drop the charges without prejudice, which is akin to the defendant never being on trial at all, so if a subsequent administration decides they want to resurrect the charges, they can without worrying about violating the Constitution prohibition against double jeopardy. The main problem with AI like Copilot and Otter are they mangle names and produce overly formulic, jargonisic and robotic summarys and task lists.
Otherwise, it's become indispensable to my workflow. I can feed it a proposal that is hundreds of pages long and it can summarize it, create a responsibility matrix, create a stakeholder registry, task list and risk register in less than 5 minutes. It can also summarize an email chain, which if anyone has received an email that's full of forwards, replies, re-replies, etc. knows how much time it can take to sort through the wheat from the chaff. And in my line of business, time is money. Posted by: Thomas Bender at January 24, 2025 07:31 AM (XV/Pl) 229

I don't think AI is making us worse programmers. I think it's making it easier to detect who the bad programmers are, because lazy programmers who don't actually know how to code are going to be the biggest users of AI coding assistants. And because they're bad programmers they don't realize how obvious that is. Software engineering has a serious Dunning-Kruger problem that only seems to be getting worse with time. AI is almost orthogonal to this. Posted by: Daniel Ream at January 24, 2025 10:57 AM (LgYtf) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0431 seconds. |
