Okay on to Pixy's content:
"Nvidia is working on generating as many as 16 fake frames for every real one, up from the current limit of 3." These people are putting a lot of effort (and money) into chasing something useless. How is this not a bunch of wasted computer cycles and heat generated that now needs to be dissipated? Curiously enough, electric car manufacturers were dying like flies during Biden's administration. Yup, Trump's just taking the government's very heavy thumb off the scales here. The electric mandate is (and was) utter garbage. Let the market decide whether EV tech is fit for given purposes, and if demand doesn't support profitability based on that alone, then the tech will die, as it should. "It's unhinged. It's fast. What could possibly go wrong?" Google will be excited - new and faster ways to generate garbage search results. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at January 23, 2025 04:30 AM (O7YUW) 20

No, but as with many people you can't always tell what's going on beneath the service of their lives- even friends or family members may not say.

So I did at some point - I think mention this very nice Republican guy who followed the ambulance to the hospital when I needed to go several weeks ago. He returned back to the RC church after not being involved for about 25 years and is now a Eucharistic minister. He does pray for various situations but he also prays, " Show me something today, Lord" which is a nice, hopeful kind of prayer.
Anyway, I was in the grocery store yesterday/ smaller, nicer one nearby. He was a stock delivery guy working in the dairy section. I wanted to thank him for his work. He said, "After 40 years of this it's routine. I put my mind out in the car. " it's it heaven where we"ll do more interesting work." I said, "Some people think we're going to sit on clouds and do nothing which sounds boring to me. " He assured me this was not the case" And no, I didn't tell Joe that I was a minister just shook his hand. So that was what I call my "God incident" yesterday in which God showed me something. We can agree that the only aid for her ills is to come out of her wicked 'church' and believe the Gospel. It's up to God to turn her heart, and we can leave it there. Posted by: lizabth at January 23, 2025 05:05 AM (Jfw7U) 50

"Nvidia is working on generating as many as 16 fake frames for every real one, up from the current limit of 3. "
It's probably similar to what MPEG does to raw digital video frames. Sends a full frame every once in a while and then sends approximations based on the temporal and spatial changes. It relies on the perceptual neurologic algorithms of the brain to make it appear as a seamless visual stream. I can't remember the allowed rate for the different styles of the approximation frame but it was very dependent on how dynamic and chaotic the actual raw stream was. 16 sounds like stretching it. About ten am, once it's been above freezing for a bit, I'll go out, dig some snow from around my front bumper and my wheels, and brush the rest of the snow off my car's windshield and back glass. Then I intend to pull it into a spot in the parking lot where it will get sunlight until dark. With any luck my wipers will be usable by then, and I can dry the glass and wipers so they will not refreeze overnight.

I'll have to read more about Codd and his concept of relational databases. That was my focus in school and at work during my short time as a programmer and developer. I'd heard of the GoTo paper and how it sparked structured programming, and used it twenty-five years later in school with BASIC and COBOL. Such apparently simple ideas; you wonder why nobody saw them before.

Given the zeal that so many in gubbmint show in letting their freak flag fly since 2016 it is obvious something has been rotten for a long, long time. The CINC is in charge, “yeah I don’t wanna do that” is not part of the job description.
It also illustrates what is outrageous about so many problems. When the government wants to do something, it can marshal the resources to do it. Manhattan project concurrent with WWII. Or the Apollo project. We witnessed maybe 40 years of the “border” wide open, for just one example. Maybe I’m not explaining my point very well. If something like this happens, basically it is because the government wants it that way. I recall thinking on 9/11/2001 that they will get serious about border security and illegals now for sure. Yeah. I really believed that. Apparently I must have thought the government, somewhere in the bowels somewhere maybe, really cared or something. California healing on such a winter's day:
https://tinyurl.com/nzzekyb8 Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at January 23, 2025 07:02 AM (oClyJ) ------------ CA is burning down due to lack of water and terrible forest management. Yet, this is what CA politicians think is important? Hubris coupled with foolishness. They really don't care the people they're supposed to look after are being wiped out due to their insane policies. I would like to thank the poster yesterday...who had some compassion for the woman Episcopal priest.
She had one job to do and that was to give it uplifting sermon to the President of the United States and his administration. Instead she went all Communist and insulted him by lecturing him about what his duties were and implying he was a heartless prick. What an arrogant twat. If she wanted to get up on her hind legs and bark out her political opinions masquerading as Christian theology she should have done that elsewhere. But Communists are going to do what Communists are going. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at January 23, 2025 07:20 AM (Q8Bj8) 188

I fondly remember the days when Nero fiddling while Rome burned was but a myth.
Then, CA politicians decide to show everyone it's far from beyond the realm of possibility. Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing (tT6L1) at January 23, 2025 07:21 AM (tT6L1) 190
Not sure about the J6ers. It was said all but 7 are out of the Gulag. Those had holds from other states to be cleared and can only be held for 14 days. Biden's head of the Bureau of Prisons was fired and the Marshalls were sent in at one point. I'lll see if there's an update.

I recall thinking on 9/11/2001 that they will get serious about border security and illegals now for sure. Yeah. I really believed that. Apparently I must have thought the government, somewhere in the bowels somewhere maybe, really cared or something. Oops
Posted by: Common Tater at January 23, 2025 06:58 AM (tgJVA) Once upon a time, many of us believed in the fairy tale that there were two opposing parties, each wanting what was best for the country but differing in their definition of 'best'. Sad that we had to lose that innocence. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at January 23, 2025 07:22 AM (ExV1e) 192
The lunatics over at Reddit are trying to ban the use of X.com links in their posts. This is actually gaining traction. The frothy hatred towards Elon Musk because he bought Twitter will never end.

Grok:
Not all January 6th defendants, commonly referred to as J6 prisoners, have been freed. According to recent information, approximately 1,028 defendants had their cases adjudicated as of November 5, 2024, with 645 sentenced to periods of incarceration. While there have been reports on social media suggesting mass releases, these claims do not appear to be fully substantiated by official records. The Justice Department continues to prosecute and sentence individuals involved in the Capitol riot, with varying outcomes including incarceration, home detention, or release pending trial or sentencing. Posts on X have indicated some level of excitement and anticipation regarding potential mass pardons or releases, but these are not reflected in official updates from legal sources. So if Illegals begin to self-deport, does the Mexican government try to stop them from crossing back into Mexico?
How does that even work? Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice I think the real story is going to be is how much are the cartels going to charge illegal aliens to get out of the USA before they get arrested by ICE. It's 18° f and dark in Las Cruces, NM. The schools are still running on a 2-hour late schedule so the kiddos don't freeze to death on their way ahead the school. Yeah, the locals are overreacting as usual.

I got banned from our local subreddit for pointing out that a local communist, who was rioting for the extermination of Israel, got arrested for trespassing on the university's property and busting out windows and not because she was a communist. So, looks like a few still in the Gulag. A California judge just put a guy in jail and it's under review by the government. That's all I'm finding so far. Lots of awful stories about their treatment in jail.
