So Trump ordered the "termination of all discriminatory programs, including illegal DEI and 'diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility' (DEIA) mandates, policies, programs, preferences, and activities in the Federal Government, under whatever name they appear." He tasked the director of the Office of Management and Budget, the director of the Office of Personnel Management, and the attorney general with enforcing this change. "Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect, and to expending precious taxpayer resources only on making America great," the order reads. "Federal employment practices, including Federal employee performance reviews, shall reward individual initiative, skills, performance, and hard work and shall not under any circumstances consider DEI or DEIAf actors, goals, policies, mandates, or requirements." The order tells the AG and director of OPM to "review and revise, as appropriate, all existing Federal employment practices, union contracts, and training policies or programs" for compliance. As painful as it was, this is why I think the last 4 years of Trump out of power has been a good thing. I think his eyes were opened to a lot of treachery, he had time to put together a plan of action and dedicated team to execute it, and he has zero fucks to give anymore. We wouldn't see nearly the same energy and ruthlessness if he had won in 2020, I don't think.

Not really. A big reason for the Rise of the West, to the point where the West dominated the rest of the planet, was the innovative idea of hiring people on merit, instead of using tribal or clan affiliation, which had been the norm for all of human civilization.

Agreed. I'd even go so far as to say that governing for two consecutive terms may actually be counterproductive. The staff gets tired and complacent, and most of the bad stuff generally happens in Term #2. A reboot is good for all concerned. At the very least, there should be a staff refresh after the first term.

A while ago, I read an account by a guy who had trained both Israeli and Saudi F-15 pilots.
If an Israeli washes out of F-15 training, he washes out - it doesn't matter if he is a nephew of the Prime Minister, the son of a billionaire, or whatever.
Israel is very aware that a chunck of its defense is dependent on how good a few hundred fighter pilots are.
But in Saudi - before you wash someone out, you need to ask what clan he's from, how you can appease the clan for the insult of washing him out, or maybe it's just not worth pissing the clan off, and you keep him on anyway.

You would be shocked at the level of open corruption and nepotism in a developing nation like Kosovo (where I had most of my overseas experience). Tribal/family networks are incredibly important for getting premiere jobs in the government and military. It's not even looked at as bad, necessarily...obviously you take care of your family, so if you have power, you use it.
People (especially the educated or those that have traveled abroad) realize it isn't best for the nation, but it's just expected. Watching Twitter yesterday, it's obvious that the establishment Right is very, very dedicated to the idea that 1/6 was the worst thing ever.

Thats where I stayed every year that I went to the sturgis rally. Had a nice sports bar, and a gas station, small supermarket, and... yeah thats about it. Other than looking like Mayberry RFD it was a nice little town. 20 miles from sturgis, right down the road from spearfish canyon, and about 50 miles or so from devil's tower.

At Casa Gref in far SE Houston, I got about 2.5 inches of snow. The BIG driving hazard here from this snowstorm is being set-up now. It is in the mid-thirties. Sun is out. Some of the snow on the roads is turning into slush, and the vehicles out today are churning snow into slush. The slush will freeze in 4 to 5 hours and stay frozen until mid-morning Wednesday. Making the highways and roads into ice rinks.

The idea that the 14th amendment has anything to do with illegal aliens popping out an anchor baby is grotesque and needs to be rectified with the appropriate legislation by congress exercising it's plenary power over citizenship and immigration.

Regarding the TV judges - if you wonder how far back it goes - I was watching an old B&W episode of Perry Mason from around 1960 - and the judge was a black female. I'm sure they thought that was quite daring on their part....stunning...brave...

The little I've seen of the counter argument rests entirely on the first phrase without any mention of the second, even though the second obviously modifies the first.
If the second modifies the first, and the first includes the phrase "born [...] in the United States", then what is the basic purpose of the second phrase? What is its function? What is the purpose of the phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" if the first is all you need?
And why act like there is simply no way to interpret the Amendment any other way than "anyone born within the borders of the United States is a citizen" when there's this weird modifier in there...?
