That all the nations of earth would become members of the democratic Western-led community. That a foreign policy that served the national interest could now be replaced by one that served the 'liberal world order.' And that all mankind was now destined to abandon national sovereignty and national identity, and we would become 'one human family' and 'citizens of the world.' This wasn't just a fantasy -- we now know it was a dangerous delusion. Here in America, and in many of the advanced economies across the world, an almost religious commitment to free and unfettered trade at the expense of our national economy shrunk the middle class, left the working class in crisis, collapsed our industrial capacity, and has pushed critical supply chains into the hands of adversaries and of rivals. An irrational zeal for maximum freedom of movement of people has resulted in a historic mass migration crisis here in America but also around the world -- it's one that threatens the stability of societies and governments. Across the West, governments now censor and even prosecute domestic political opponents. Meanwhile radical jihadists openly march in the streets and sadly drive vehicles into our people.

While America far too often prioritized the 'global order' above our core national interests, other nations continued to act the way countries always have and always will -- in what they perceive to be in their best interest. And instead of folding into the post-Cold War global order, they have manipulated it to serve their interests at the expense of ours. We welcomed the Chinese Communist Party into the global order, and they took advantage of all its benefits, and they ignored all its obligations and responsibilities. Instead, they have repressed, and lied, and cheated, and hacked, and stolen their way to global superpower status, and they have done so at our expense and at the expense of their own country. In our very own hemisphere, despots and narco-terrorists take advantage of open borders to drive mass migration, to traffic women and children, and to flood our communities with fentanyl and violent criminals. In Moscow, Tehran, and Pyongyang, dictators -- rogue states -- now sow chaos and instability and align with and they fund radical terror groups, and then hide behind their veto power at the United Nations Security Council and the threat of nuclear war. The postwar global order is not just obsolete -- it is now a weapon being used against us. And all this has led to a moment in which we must now confront the single greatest risk of geopolitical instability and of generational global crisis in the lifetime of anyone alive today."

Third, he's honest: He acknowledges that funding another war "as long as it takes" is not realistic, and any end to the war must be a negotiated compromise. Otherwise, Ukraine will be destroyed from the loss of every last young man in the country. This is the way. End the war.

The failure of conservatives to conserve much in the last 30 years has a lot to do with it. The only two big wins I can think of in that period are gun rights and finally overruling Roe v. Wade after a half century on the books. Neither of which came from the elected branches of government except indirectly. I think that amnesty was more a sop to business donors than something that was legislatively possible anymore. A serious effort would have been led by some insider with cred (see Sen. Simpson regarding Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty in 86).

I'm not one for conspiracy theorizing, but if it came out that she knew months ahead of time that Trump was going to get shot at Butler, I would say her actions and words during the primary make perfect sense.
Her only goal was to come in second because Trump was going to get shot and murdered before the convention, leaving her with the best argument for taking the nomination from the corpse of the former president.
If I were to conspiracy theorize, that is, which I'm not.

There was a couple week period right when the presidential election came into focus and Biden was overtly stumbling around. The media started to push Michelle Obama as a likely candidate (which was probably Barrack Obama putting feelers out to gather interest)....but I think she wanted nothing to do with it, because, almost immediately, she did an in-depth press interview (which was rare)...where she admitted outright that she suffered from depression. I think that was her way of sabotaging her husband's ambitions, and telling him to knock it off.

There is no such thing as free trade across nations nor a personal right to cheap crappy slave goods from China whether you buy them from Amazon or Temu. The US for a long time followed rhetoric of free trade but always prudently managed it via tariffs and regulations so that US workers and industries were protected.
They went YOLO around the GHWB New World Order bullshit into every single bad decision like promoting China to MFN status while the bodies were still warm in Tianamen Square, key industries were moved from the US to Mexico first and then China or even directly to China, and so on.
We became poorer other than those benefitting directly from trade while the world got richer from currency outflows. Now, the US is at the point of losing reserve currency status. It cannot go on.

China's purchased enough senators and reps on both sides of the aisle to angle themselves into the catbird's seat where they can rape our industries, manipulate their currency, and never suffer the fiscal correction that would normally cause things to reach an equilibrium point -- their currency should inflate with a trillion dollar trade surplus, making their goods more expensive and reducing that surplus.
Instead, that trade surplus grows without bound until we will make literally nothing in this country and the Chinese will have us by the balls.
I hope they're serious this time about fixing this. I fear for Taiwan; one consequence of tariffs on Chinese goods will be the invasion of Taiwan and the collapse of the semiconductor industry until the Chinese bring things back online with slave labor.
I hope Trump's team has a plan for that too.
