Oof. Tell me how you really feel, Mario. He also announced the Ukraine War "must end." Charlie KirkA country can't survive without young men. With so many of Ukraine's dead, there's an obvious answer where the country will get its new young men from, and it's not a great answer. Ending the Ukraine war would be easy: if we stopped supporting Ukraine, it loses, probably very quickly. So we apparently want the war, which we played no small part in provoking (not least by Turnip's statement that a little invasion would be no big deal), to end - but on particular terms acceptable to us. Maybe that's all we can do given the hand we were dealt before this moment, but it doesn't sound like to deprioritization of the global order to me.

He's talking about Ukraine, while the White House, come Jan. 20th, will have a Special Envoy handling the matters of State with Ukraine. Same with the Middle East. And, the same with any hot spot that pops up as Ric Grennell serves as a Special Envoy Extraordinaire. Build the dang fence was McCain's 2010 commercial. Republicans in Congress then pushed hard for amnesty 2 years later. Posted by: TheJamesMadison ==== Which fell apart in the House after Cantor lost in VA primary making it pointless to continue in the Senate. Probably would have fallen apart in the Senate as well because it was a hand grenade that required both parties to fall on to get passed. If you notice, McConnell always sends an expendable junior member to lead point on collaborating with the Dems on politically dangerous areas so he had plausible deniability when it crashes and burns. To wit, Lankford was the most recent stupid spear catcher for the limited hangout amnesty that did not even make it past the discussion stage. I think that amnesty was more a sop to business donors than something that was legislatively possible anymore. A serious effort would have been led by some insider with cred (see Sen. When catastrophe strikes, its victims understandably want to know how and why — but their curiosity often morphs into snap judgments and witch hunts by those with ulterior motives. The horribly destructive wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County neighborhoods have become fodder for irresponsible, fact-free finger pointing, mostly aimed at President-Elect Donald Trump, who hasn't been in office for nearly four years.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom have been the target as social media have erupted with vituperative attacks on both figures, alleging that they, either by actions or inactions, allowed the firestorms to destroy thousands of homes and claim dozens of lives. With great power comes great responsibility, but neither have shown much. The favorite rejoinder of Senator Harry S. Truman: "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen," applies to all of those who have taken public office and it most certainly applies to Mayor Bass and Gov. Newsom. Posted by: Earl Schlobodowicz There is no such thing as free trade across nations nor a personal right to cheap crappy slave goods from China whether you buy them from Amazon or Temu. The US for a long time followed rhetoric of free trade but always prudently managed it via tariffs and regulations so that US workers and industries were protected. They went YOLO around the GHWB New World Order bullshit into every single bad decision like promoting China to MFN status while the bodies were still warm in Tianamen Square, key industries were moved from the US to Mexico first and then China or even directly to China, and so on. All I know is illegal immigration is the worst I've ever seen it because there is no law that addresses what's causing the problems now. Trump's EO's tried to address some of it but the Left's EOs before and after Trump have made the problem almost unfixable. The only way in my opinion to fix illegal immigration is to stop making it attractive with benefits and jobs. Reform has to include stopping those benefits and real penalties against employers. Jail time imo.

And the hamassholes keep the remaining 66 or so and you know it'll be forever. I'm sure it's more complicated than "You hand over hostages by {date} and we will hand over your terrorist peeps after. 100 peeps for 1 hostage, to be remanded in the same condition in which the hostage was turned over. 1 dead hostage gets you 100 dead peeps. 1 maimed hostage gets you 100 maimed peeps. I appreciate the concern about China, but the concern is slightly misplaced. The impact to the USA is pretty much as Rubio related. The fear of China is a bit empty. Even as we speak western investment into China is collapsing and other Asian Tigers are working to fill the void. The real fear in depending on China is that as China's demographic structure collapses, critically collapses, China within 20 years will be in no position to provide us with much of anything anyway.
Relying on them for any significant future supply is foolish - they will be half their size by 2050, and incredibly old. We must redraw our supply routes, and assess what we must do here in NA to get the goods we need into the future. Posted by: Black JEM at January 15, 2025 04:58 PM (GZYu7) 405
I've never been a huge fan of Rubio but he has always been consistently for FAIR trade -- free trade, but fair trade.
China's purchased enough senators and reps on both sides of the aisle to angle themselves into the catbird's seat where they can rape our industries, manipulate their currency, and never suffer the fiscal correction that would normally cause things to reach an equilibrium point -- their currency should inflate with a trillion dollar trade surplus, making their goods more expensive and reducing that surplus. Instead, that trade surplus grows without bound until we will make literally nothing in this country and the Chinese will have us by the balls. I hope they're serious this time about fixing this. I fear for Taiwan; one consequence of tariffs on Chinese goods will be the invasion of Taiwan and the collapse of the semiconductor industry until the Chinese bring things back online with slave labor. I hope Trump's team has a plan for that too. Posted by: Pastafarian at January 15, 2025 06:33 PM (tWGrL) 406
