Effort to Recall Gavin Newsom is Underway

It's time for Newsom to go.

A recall attempt to knock California Gov. Gavin Newsom out of office is underway as he faces sharp criticism for his handling of the Los Angeles wildfires -- with opponents labeling his leadership a "series of catastrophic failures."

Organizers against Newsom vowed to file papers in the next two weeks in hopes of jumpstarting the process that could lead to the Democrat's ouster in the middle of his second term in the governor's mansion.

The state chief executive -- along with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass -- is fighting for his political life as the wildfires have torched more than 40,000 acres (62.5 square miles, almost three times the size of Manhattan), destroyed more than 12,000 structures and killed at least 24 people.

"Under the reign of Governor Newsom, living in California has become impossible for average people through years of poor policies which have increased the costs of living, increased crime, increased drug use and homelessness, increased the cost of burden [sic] on small businesses and communities, while decreasing our professional standards, education standards, the disappearance of billions of taxpayers' dollars to failed pet programs, and our public services," one recall organizer, Randy Economy, said in a statement.

"This was most recently demonstrated by the woefully unprepared and incompetent response to the fires currently ravaging the Los Angeles area."

He told Newsweek on Monday that plans for a recall were in the works before the wildfires started, but the chaos has "shortened our time frame and changed things."

A notice of intent needs to be filed first and then recall supporters must collect about 1.3 million signatures in five months, according to the outlet.

Justine Bateman, who I did not guess would be my favorite political influencer in 2025, is directing people to where they can find a paper recall petition to sign. (It has to be on paper, not an online signature.)

Megyn Kelly says that her "woke" California friend is telling her that everyone there is ready to do the unthinkable: Vote Republican.

For some reason, Newsom decided to smile and shoulder-shimmy like a whore while dodging questions about what exactly he's doing to prevent future fires.

"GOP: Hegseth did 235 pushups this morning! He shits bullets!

Also GOP: He will shatter into tiny pieces should Dems get another five minutes to ask questions.

The above quote from Eric Columbus on BlueSky a few minutes ago.

Just about sums it up. The way I'm following this is by recording the hearings and watching on delay, forwarding through the R kiss ups and Hegseth's gish galloping. I would like to applaud the Dems for excellent questioning and going at him as strongly as possible. No Monday morning quarterbacking here.

Tammy Duckworth and Tim Kaine were especially effective, but Elizabeth Warren also stood out. I think Hegseth was warned not to treat Duckworth too dismissively considering her status as a wounded warrior, but he could not answer simple questions from any of them.

But I still get the feeling that the R's are all going to vote for him."

🔥 What many don’t realize is that California’s Lieutenant Governor & candidate to replace Newsom in 2026 as Governor is Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis.

She’s from a billionaire APARTMENT DEVELOPER family. Her only jobs have been LtGov (did 0), working for dad & Ambassador to Hungary (which her dad paid millions to Obama to buy for her to bolster her political future).

She is in office for ONE reason. And you can guess.

Kounalakis is the Democratic establishment pick to become next governor. Proof? At the Democratic National Convention, Newsom was only allowed to speak briefly from the FLOOR while totally unknown Kounalakis got a speech from the stage.

She cannot be allowed to become Governor. If Newsom resigns, she automatically does and then runs as incumbent. She’s worse than Newsom. Has the public speaking ability of 1/3 a Kamala. Had her dad buy her every job she’s had.

If Newsom is recalled, we get someone better. Guaranteed. As none of the establishment elites will be allowed to run against him in a recall.

97 You can argue that, well, they didn't spend the money on fire prevention they instead spent it on X. Good roads, great schools, dealing with the homeless. except...there is no X. Nothing that you can point to and say that is where the money went.

They shorted fire prevention. But didn't solve any other of the myriad of problems the state is dealing with. The roads are shit, the schools are shit, the homeless ...shit everywhere. Crime is up. It takes 3 years to build an addition to your house, IF you can get a permit. The water infrastructure is falling apart.

Even emissions - they went from 463 MMT to 371 MMT. It's something, but in 25 years you've solved 1/4 of the problem? WTF? Only 75 more years to go eh? and the first 25% is the EASY stuff.

107 I started praying that the leftists would lose their stranglehold on California 7 months ago. I wrote out a page long prayer listing all the problems I wanted God to help fix in California, and I put it in my prayer rotation. So I'm thanking God today that the dam seems to be breaking. Sorry it's required such a massive tragedy to wake people up, but I'm feeling great hope. I absolutely adore CA. I'm living in Utah right now against my will, but I have every intention of going back to CA the second I can, and I expect it to be greatly improved with God's help. God cares about America, and he gave us Trump. God cares about California too.

136 The truth is nobody really knows what the real results of election in California are these days.

They've taken ballot harvesting to an art form and take weeks to count votes for obvious reasons. We were watching elections for CA Reps not decided for weeks after Nov 5th. And now they've passed a law that makes it illegal to even ask for voter ID. That's right, illegal.

I have little doubt that with a fair vote both Bass and Newsom would be in deep trouble. There's no such thing as a fair vote in CA these days.

A few things are going to keep them pissed.

The Coastal Commission, which controls zoning and building permits... which is a pure on Dem institution, will slow roll rebuilding...

And the fact that Prop 13 will no longer be in effect for most of those houses destroyed, as you have to have one wall standing for it to be a rebuild, vice new build, under Calif Law. PROPERTY alone there will be worth millions, and they will have to pay taxes on it even when the Coastal Commission stops them from rebuilding.

Then land will be bought by Big Corps (BlackRock)...

This sequence is predictable... and will screw over a LOT of fairly rich Southern Calif Liberals.

And stations. Track is trivial.

But their problem is, even when they do lay track, who the fuck is going to bother running a train from Merced to S. Merced? They will not lay track until they have a connection to a major city, since if they do it sooner it will make them look re-cock-ulous.

174 "I absolutely adore CA. I'm living in Utah right now against my will, but I have every intention of going back to CA the second I can, and I expect it to be greatly improved with God's help."

With all due respect, California is lost - just like Chicago, my home town which I miss every day, is lost. The Democratic Party - the party of slavery, Jim Crow, the Klan, segregation, and much else toxic in our history - has rigged the game so thoroughly that they'll never be overthrown. Never. Ain't happenin'. The parts of the country that are still America will just have to learn how to get along with the situation, just like a cancer patient has to learn to cope with his disease.

It's even sillier than most people know. The Rail Stations? not near anything you actually want to visit, so you need transportation from the Rail head to what you want... so... you'll end up renting a car.

I live right outside Merced... the plan for the Rail Station? crappy part of town. No services near it. No rent a cars... nothing... and the traffic at that intersection is already problematic... so the Highway 59 Highway 99 interchange will have to be redesigned to support it...

So, yeah, all your Fresnans and Bakersfield folks, come to Merced on the High Speed Rail... and then TRY to get somewhere.

Oh, and end to end... Merced to Bakerfield? 2.5 hour drive... so you probably are not actually saving any time once you rent a car.

260 Trump Proposes External Revenue Service for Foreign Taxation

President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to establish the 'External Revenue Service' (ERS) aimed at collecting tariffs, duties, and other revenues from foreign sources, starting January 20, 2025. This move is intended to shift the burden of taxation from American citizens to foreign entities, contrasting with the existing Internal Revenue Service. The proposal has sparked a mix of reactions, with some viewing it as a bold economic strategy and others expressing concerns about potential economic repercussions.

280 Sarah Hoyt posted a link last night about a plan from 1957 that would have met CA's current water needs. It is a must read if you want to know about what could have been.

It was written by Edward Ring at the CA Globe in 2022
The cost was about 100B in current dollars, so big, but doable. It included many reservoirs, tunnels, pipes, dams, etc.

The analysis is not great and has some errors but it is interesting. The biggest problem today of course is permitting.

In the end he talks about incorporating pumped water storage. I am always skeptical of such "dual benefit" plans since something can either store water or energy, but in this case it makes sense. Imagine storing all that stupid daytime solar energy in their reservoirs for use in evenings.

Some minor candidate, aka a cut out for the EU and American Nat Sec folks demanded the election be thrown out and the court laughed him off. Then 4 days later agreed because the winner of the election had videos supporting him on TikTok. Seriously...that's their reasoning to throw out an election.

And the current strong man who has to leave in Jan now gets to stay on until they finally get around to actually having another election...of course. And they'll do that right after they find a reason to imprison the candidate that actually won the election.

Meanwhile Americans are struggling to pay for food and housing.

Democrats are always America last.

Some, Jamie Lee Curtis perhaps, will jump on board and promote the Phoenix rising from the ashes bs. Most won't. They won't have the patience or the bs tolerance. One of their incentives for living in those areas was the character of the area. That's gone. They will take their losses and move elsewhere. Even if every single die hard Dem votes Republican, LA, ten years from now, will be a squalid sh*thole. “I think he has watched American Psycho too many times. Christian Bale has nothing on this guy. He’s like the rich kid buttering up his dying uncle as he waits for him to croak. He’s out in the hallway clutching a MyPillow. The moment the nurse leaves, he’s putting it down on Joe. And then he makes this — he talks about, like — he makes this weird comment about DeSantis, about DEI, ESG, and CRT. What he fails to mention is that Gavin Newsom was wrong on all of that. And DeSantis was right on all those three-letter entities about how they are helping to destroy a company by going after — a country by going after equal opportunity and meritocracy. We even have Dems admitting that reverse racism is actually racism. I know he jokes about DeSantis, but at least DeSantis is running for the office in public, not sneaking around like a political cat burglar.”

Part of it, I think, is the question nobody seems to like being asked: What are you willing to do to solve the problem? And for way too many people, that answer comes up well short of what's likely to be required. I'm not sure enough people have the stomach for the work required yet. It's going to be a generational project, and it's going to require more than just political activity. (And no I'm not talking violence. There are other, more important and effective courses of action before we get to that being absolute necessity.)

421 “Biden’s agenda had a big impact. Will history give him credit,” read Olorunnipa’s Sunday propaganda piece disguised as a news item that also made its way into the Monday print edition of The Post. Olorunnipa mourned that Biden’s irresponsible infusion of trillions of dollars into the economy that set inflation on a collision course with people’s wallets wasn’t enough to give Democrats the boost they needed in the 2024 elections. “As construction cranes rise above Liberty and dozens of other Trump-friendly towns, the White House is grappling with the reality that the trillions injected into the economy by Biden’s policies did little to boost his party.”

Olorunnipa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and MSc from Stanford University.

424 401 California won’t change. I hear a lot of residents stating it was not preventable. Pride can be a stubborn thing, even as your life burns down before your eyes. Between the many people who apparently have private fire service and security to protect them from looters- why would they change? It’s inconsequential to them and a lot of people who have the money to rebuild. That’s before we get to the city dwellers who live off the system and the illegal voters. I give it less than a 50% chance any recall will pass.

One can never tell as politics revolves around events like Harold MacMillan said. There is probably more pain to come to California as business owners are already drowning from having to repay state of California loans for unemployment extensions. State of California borrowed a bunch of bucks from Uncle Sam, spent the money, and now is expecting (and able) to charge all business owners paying unemployment taxes surcharges to repay fedgov.

Much of what we see is clouded by MSM propaganda, our own internal biases, and a lack of any quality information beyond our own personal interactions. But that is always thus and the coming fiscal crunch (absent an economic miracle similar to Erhard's post WWII in W. Germany), fiscal matters will force a lot of issues to come to a head. Only in Ware do you see a man get arrested for having sex with not one, but 2 family dogs, making his wife (who he's also charged with raping) watch him do it, and beating up his son who he makes eat out of a dog bowl. This guy is wood chipper material: tbdailynews.com/ware-man-arres…

484 People have to realize one thing about democrats

Diversity, climate change, white supremacy, etc. are just excuses for not solving problems. Blame the problem on something that can never be solved, that you must be constantly re-elected to remain vigilant against. It's why they resort to these lame excuses - they don't want to solve the actual problem. Because solving the problem is hard and will deprive them of a campaign issue.

abortion was used for decades by both sides to avoid solving real problems. Now that it is a state issue, what the fuck are they supposed to argue about?

485 On the one hand, it won't help California much because we'll probably be saddled with another leftist. On the other hand, it would kill Newsom's chances for a presidential run.

One word summary: spite.

It amuses me that Pence still thinks the truth matters to these people. For that reason alone, he needed to go.

I am confident JD and his wife can find their way around the new home. They will need to have de-bugging program in place with the WH. Also exorcism.

487 Newsom is just the head of the cancer. What about his posse of sexually transmitted germs? The mayor of LA and her dancing lesbios who think that people will only be rescued by someone who is their mirror image. I for one love a state that spends billions on a train to nowhere while ignoring the need for damn and reservoirs. I love it even more when these cult follows start with that nothing can be done against the forces of nature till a virgin is sacrificed to the gods of the volcano.

God I love the Left. I love it when their cultural enrichers ride their scooters in rich folks neighborhoods setting fires and then looting and the LAPD says there is nothing to see. It makes me want to give them all 10 gallon jerry cans and a map of the homes of the stars, especially the ones who supported Obama and Biden.

488 If you don't worship at the feet of Newsom X says you are advocating hate speech and violence. Seems some of their personnel aspire to work for the British police.
