The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

DEI is alive and well and living in the hearts and minds of many of our corporations. And that is okay. The overwhelming support for it has disappeared, as many companies ditch it, or cover it up, or simply make it a low priority. The remaining enthusiasts will be competing on an uneven playing field, and they will be punished by the markets.

If Apple wants keep DEI, that means they will be competing for competent employees from a smaller pool than their competitors. The numbers don't lie, and eventually their fixation on race and sexuality will damage their vaunted engineering and marketing prowess.

Apple's board recommended shareholders reject DEI rollback proposal

But Apple recommended shareholders vote against the proposal, stating that it was "unnecessary as Apple already has a well-established compliance program and the proposal inappropriately attempts to restrict Apple's ability to manage its own ordinary business operations, people and teams, and business strategies."

DEI often involves prioritizing race, gender or sexuality in hiring, training and programming, and the initiatives have been criticized by conservatives as divisive and discriminatory. Proponents of DEI say these efforts address racial divides and provide support for groups who have been historically marginalized.

California just got punched in the mouth by the repercussions of focusing on race and sexuality over competence. Los Angeles is burning, in part because they have a bunch of sub-wits running things, and that is a direct result of California's fixation on fat lesbians pretending to be firefighters.

Maybe Apple can hire Kristin Crowley as their chief engineer when she is tossed out of Los Angeles on her ample ass! Or maybe Kristine Larson, of 'He got himself in the wrong place' fame as head of marketing! She sure impressed everyone with her abilities!

Perhaps in 10 years, as Apple's tech skills decay in opposition to their diversity, their customer base will shrink to a base of iPhone fanbois and legacy users who can't switch to more modern systems without huge training and hardware costs.

Or...they quietly reevaluate their insane stance on choosing color and sexuality over quality, and move to a more sane hiring and advancement policy. Disney didn't do that, and has lost half its value, probably due to its ferocious commitment to every DEI and Woke idea. Because with race and sexuality fixated hiring comes race and sexuality fixated employees! Disney got movies filled with those obsessions, and how did it work out for its stockholders? Not well at all.

The real question is whether the obvious lack of interest among most Americans with regard to DEI policies will eventually sweep it away. Sadly, the indoctrination in our universities is still going gangbusters, and Griggs v. Duke Power Co. is still the law of the land, and gives disproportionate power and influence to the academy.

Who will win is anyone's guess, but the markets are difficult to beat in the long term without good products and growing profits. Hopefully they will get rid of DEI before it destroys our remaining industrial and technological base!

And of course there was the CrowdStrike thing from last July.

The problem with DEI hires is that they know they are not fileable not matter what they do (or refuse to do, or neglect to do).

ALL meds have side effects...normally, you should only take the med if your perceived benefit is worth more to your health than the detriment. Being a Hollywood actress, I guess they've decided monetary benefit to be perfectly slim is worth the health risk. Normal folks are probably gonna eventually class action when the long term side effects hit enough of them...

AKA - the only folks who should probably be taking this are the morbidly obese who have failed everything to lose weight...and the diabetics who have also tried most things to control their diabetes...but of course, miracle meds never end up use appropriately...

Cancer. That's what goes wrong. Look at the side effect list of most of the drugs today. '....and cancer.' They've turned it into a side effect.

Radiologist oncologist yesterday told the wife that nowadays, ONE in EIGHT women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. That's almost 15% of women in the US.

And chemically altering brain function is NOT the cure. Remember, they prescribe you drugs for depression. The drugs can cause tardive dyskinesia, which is involuntary muscle movements that MAY BE PERMANENT.

I'll take my chances on getting my brain to overcome depression.

There are a lot of other scary potential side-effects.

It's also a lifetime drug. You don't take it to lose the weight and then stop. You are hooked forever, at ~$1k per mth, iirc.
Posted by: Lizzy at January 14, 2025

I hadn’t heard the colon thing, but it does attack muscle mass as you lose, and your heart is a muscle. This is why you see the terms “ozempic face” and “ozempic butt”. The other issue is the speed in which you lose weight, your body just doesn’t have time to adjust and you end up with lose skin - now you are going to get this regardless of the method you use if you are losing a lot of weight and / or you are of a certain age and your skin is losing laxity.

Any weight loss support is lifetime if you don’t change everything about what you are doing while using it. If you still eat like garbage, just less garbage because your appetite is controlled, and you don’t exercise, you will not sustain the loss. Diets do not work long term. You have to change your lifestyle and stop thinking in terms of short term by doing x y z for a few months. It stinks. It’s hard. But it’s facts.

As I told the spouse when we started this...I expected a no, which is why I never applied, until another vet sent my info to wounded warriors b/c I know the military never actually cared about its people. Americans care about the military, but the actual military service could not give a d&mn. 252 OTOH, I'm thinking that businesses are going where they think popular opinion is going. If they think DIE is popular, they'll use it as a marketing thing. Now that it's being considered garbage, they are backing off.

Is it actually taken seriously by the business? In my company, not really. "non-essential" employees tend to fall under its dictates, but when it comes to the core business staff/leadership it hasn't changed at all.

While he was mayor he also had an insurance agency and if you wanted to do business with Albany county you had to go through his agency. Polly had a daughter they called Polly Jr. She married an Albany attorney/lobbyist named Doug Rutnik and they had kids including a daughter who is now Kirsten Gillibrand. The thing is that diversity can be valuable. Influx of new ideas is not bad, New ideas might come from a new perspective. That's not bad.

However, if you had a diversity of contractions in your muscle fibers, that isn't strength. That's a disability.

413 Anyway, I feel for Mr. Hegseth but I'm guessing the questioning will be over today. The first time I came up for consideration for ordination as a Deacon you had to go off on "retreat" with the clergy for three days for questioning on your ordination papers. The second time for consideration as an Elder it was all finished in one day, thank God.
