Strange Geography - Vulcan Point (Philippines) An island in the middle of a lake, in the middle of a volcano, in the middle of a bigger lake, in the middle of a bigger island, in an archipelago, in the Pacific Ocean.
The paradisiacal beauty of Lake Taal, on an island in the archipelago known as the Philippines, belies the mammoth terror at its center: a highly active volcano that has taken thousands of lives and has been roiling since 1991 after a dormant period following its 1977 eruption. With 33 recorded eruptions, the Taal Volcano is the second most active volcano in the Philippines and a part of the Pacific's "Ring of Fire," a large swath of the Pacific known for its earthquakes and active volcanoes. Despite the active seismic activity, this place is rather popular with tourists. Once at the Taal Lake shore, travelers take a boat to reach the volcano island, where they either hike up the hill or ride a horse. But the Taal Volcano is more than that. Phrase Origin By popular demand, here's another explanation of the origin of a common phrase. Where does "spick and span" come from?
The term spick and span means brand new. This term has a nautical origin. Spick meant nails (or spike) and span meant wooden shavings. On a new sailing ship, the nails would still be shiny and the wooden shavings from manufacture would still be present. Therefore, a new ship would be all spick and span.
Examples of Use: When I come back in an hour, I want to see this kitchen looking spick and span. His apartment is spick and span. He must have a new girlfriend. The railings along the promenade all look spick and span after a fresh coat of paint.

This term combines two nouns that are now obsolete, spick , “a nail” or “spike,” and span , “a wooden chip.” In the 1500s a sailing ship was considered spick and span when every spike and chip was brand-new. The transfer to the current sense took place in the mid-1800s.

I'm in the rare(?) camp that enjoys the David Lee era and the Sammy era equally. Was fortunate enough to see VH twice in the 90s. First time was in '91 at the old Capital Centre. Opening band was a then little-known band out of Seattle called Alice in Chains. Perhaps you've heard of them?

Rush was at his peak (IMO) during the 1990s and into the early 2000s. After that he was kind of like Johnny Carson - knew he was the best and started handing off time to guest hosts.
(I understand the irony of referencing someone even older than Rush to you.)

True story: I was looking to hire a moderator for the 1996 mayoral debate and someone gave me the name of a radio announcer and I got the name wrong, and wound up listening to Hot Talk 560KSFO and that's where I heard Savage.

The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson was terrific. Especially in the mid 60s to late 70s. But it was a product of its time. It does not age well. When the Boomers are gone it will be forgotten. Sad.

Yes a lot of cheap clothing is cheap because it was made more cheaply, but more expensive clothing is often that way not because it was made better or with more expensive materials but instead because it has a brand...

To be fair, I hold the locals responsible for water levels in the local reservoirs. This seems like a reservoir managed by the city water dept, not the state water project.
Note - Altadena (Eaton Cyn fire) has similar topography to Pac Palisades and no reports of them running out of water. Different city, different management.

They's all over the country now, SM. They returned to California -sometime preCovid opening a restaurant in Victorville, about 70 miles north of me.
The first time we tried to go we couldn't because the line was around the building....
Now they have several more, including one only 50 miles from me. But we still like the Victorville one and go when we want a little road trip...

Cleveland, Tennessee Cracker Barrel had the best peach pancakes. Waitress asked if I wanted to wait for fresh coffee or take what she currently had in the pot. I told her I don't mind coffee with a little hair on it.
Well she thought that was the funniest thing she ever heard. Filled my cup, still laughing, goes into the kitchen to put in my order. About 30 seconds later, the kitchen busts out in laughter. I was there all week...

Jinky's Cafe had a great BBQ brisket plate. Ordered it on a subsequent visit. Server put it in front of me. I took a bite. Luke warm. I think the mashed potatoes were hot. That's when I figured everything was boil-in-a-bag. Wasn't too long after I learned about Santa Claus. That was a tough year...

Later, a two cops showed up off-duty with a couple of coolers filled with confiscated beer.

I am ready for every single drone to be licensed.
If we shoot it down for flying in an unauthorized space, we know exactly who gets the appropriate jail sentence.
If you run your drone into a firefighting airplane, you get a big jail sentence.
If a policeman does a random spot check, and your drone is NOT licensed, you get the same jail sentence as flying in an unauthorized space.
If my views are too draconian, don't fly a f*ckin' drone.

AOP, the most islands in lakes that I personally know of are in eastern Canada.

Was your husband the type of person that enjoyed hurting you? From all you have told us, he was a loving man.
People become combative as the disease progresses. My MIL was a tiny, less than 5 foot women, and still her slaps and screams made it difficult for the aides.
My seeking out care, you are honoring the man he was, the man who would never knowingly harm you. The man, I sure, he would like to be again. But men are stronger than women and his out bursts may be more dangerous then my tiny MIL’s.
The first rule of being a life guard - you can not save anyone when you are also drowning. You can not take care of him if his outburst is severe enough to hurt you.
Seek out care with a loving heart and not a guilt filled one.
And realistically, this is easier said than done. I still feel guilty. But I know she got a very good level of care with people who - unlike me - could actually get her to take a bath & keep her clean.

He's like a disobedient child, though. Does what he wants, when he wants; nobody is the boss of him... that sort of thing.

Hubs has had mild issues for the last few years, but not unmanageable. Started going downhill last year, especially since summer. And then BAM! mid-December really took a dive.
Hasn't gotten much better in the month since discharge from hospital.
