The Morning Report — 1/13/25

CANapalm.jpg

Good morning kids.

So, let me get this straight. I've seen quite a few stories about how Newsom is supposedly going to be ruthless on looters taking advantage of the wildfires. Looking back just four-and-a-half short (yet interminable) years ago, one wonders what was his attitude on the looters who took advantage of fires that they themselves set in the wake of fellow lowlife criminal George Floyd winning a stupid prize for death by eating his crystal meth stash, after passing a counterfeit Jackson at a convenience store, while resisting arrest. Not just LA, but several dozen cities across America were given the Lemay treatment and the Left excused it as an understandable and even laudable behavior because of the blood libel of institutional racism and white supremacy. To arrest and prosecute anyone would undermine a bedrock foundation of Democrat/Leftist political power and influence.

Try to disregard that nakedly obvious disgusting phony moralizing from the hack propagandist who scribbled this dreck in the LA Times and just look at what Newsom is quoted as saying in light of the present circumstances.

“You’ve lost patience. So have I. You are right to feel wronged. You are right to feel the way you are feeling,” Newsom said to protesters, adding that “society has a responsibility to you to be better, and to do better.”
Newsom said Monday that outside groups were seeking to “create havoc,” but he declined to name specific groups. Residents of Los Angeles complained of lawlessness and a lack of police presence, while others said law enforcement had escalated violence toward peaceful protesters. In Oakland, police arrested three people early Monday in a shooting at Police Department headquarters, and a woman was shot in the suburb of Walnut Creek in connection with the unrest, police told the Chronicle.

. . .Newsom largely remained quiet over the weekend and after he held a news conference on Friday. The governor released a statement late Saturday on the deployment of the National Guard and commented again on the protests midday Monday. Hours earlier, President Trump spoke with governors and called for a harsher police crackdown. Asked several times about the president’s comments, Newsom declined to directly respond to Trump or criticize him. In videos from the front lines of the protests, organizers decried the looting and sought to distinguish their groups from the bands of vandals and thieves that shattered windows and made many Californians fear public security was spinning out of control.

Newsom said Monday that outside groups were seeking to “create havoc,” but he declined to name specific groups. . .

The governor began his Friday news conference with a monologue that delved into his own privilege, his children’s response to Floyd’s death and their attempts to understand what it all meant. “We’ve got to fundamentally change who we are and recognize what we’re capable of being,” he said.

The governor echoed that message Monday. “You’ve got to change hearts, minds,” Newsom said. “You’ve got to change culture, not just laws. And we have to own up to some very difficult things. The black community is not responsible for what’s happening in this country right now. We are. We are. Our institutions are responsible. We are accountable to this moment.”

Meanwhile, back to present day in the smoldering ashes of Pacific Palisades and the smoldering ruins of a significant chunk of our society and culture. Here is the totally unsurprising headline of the day for a number of reasons I'm sure you can see, unlike probably the overwhelming majority of Democrat true-believers and run of the mill generational/reflexive/low information Democrats and Dupes.

A reported illegal immigrant was arrested by police after California residents feared he would use a blowtorch to start wildfires in Los Angeles. . .

. . . Per ICE sources, the man seen in a viral video being subdued by residents & arrested by police w/ a blowtorch near the #KennethFire in West Hills is an illegal alien from Mexico named Juan Manuel Sierra-Leyva. He is in custody on a probation violation & has NOT been charged w/ arson. I’m told ICE will place a detainer request on him with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, but they do not expect it to be honored due to California’s Sanctuary State law. I’m told Sierra-Leyva will have a court appearance tomorrow. . .

. . . The arrest comes as California legislators debate legislation that would provide another $25 million to help the state’s large population of illegal evade deportation during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Like New York City, the government of Los Angeles welcomes migrants because they serve as cheap labor, apartment-sharing renters, and welfare-aided consumers.

So a wetback with a blowtorch sets LA ablaze not one week after a fellow traveler across the Rio Grande, also invited in by Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants and the Dems, immolates a sleeping subway rider in NYC. At least the latter was charged for what I have read, but his ultimate disposition is TBD.

There has been much speculation that LA's transformation into Dresden on the Pacific might very well be a tipping point that turns the state Red, politically. Aside from the fact that the political machine that controls the electoral process will simply not allow that to happen, even if for just one future election there is a critical mass of voters that could put a Republican back in Sacramento or even LA city hall.

Let's say for argument's sake, that LA and even all of California flips red. It is worth noting that this past election has seen much of the state flip red than at any time in the past 40 or so years. The big obstacle of course are the large metropolitan Sodoms & Gomorrahs that have a stranglehold on the rest of the state. Historical anecdote: Ironically enough, Operation Gomorrah was the RAF's codename for the firebombing raid on Hamburg in 1943 that wiped out the city and which Albert Speer declared a few more like that would cause the collapse of Nazi Germany.

Meanwhile, the propaganda mills are still pounding out the same garbage about mythological "Climate Change" while no doubt ready to either bury completely the illegal alien angle or otherwise continue the hoary old theme of racist bigoted xenophobia and not open borders being the real problem.

Despite all of this as well as the documented criminal negligence and malfeasance of everyone from Newsom and Bass down the line to the incompetent hoseless fire chiefs, remember that mission #1 is protect the movement, "Even if it short-dicks every cannibal in the Congo" as Gunny Hartmann famously said.

As I have pondered on these pages and on our podcasts about this and every other failure and catastrophe we have experienced with the Democrats in charge, over the last four years and indeed the past century and longer, incompetence vs. ideology.

I think I have settled on this sentiment, suitable for a Rosie Grier macrame in a frame on the mantlepiece:

THE IDEOLOGY IS THE INCOMPETENCE

So as to this mass deprogramming of Leftists, I can't see it, despite what's going on right in front of their eyes. Replacing a Newsom and a Bass is the path of least resistance for the traitorous, murderous Democrat Left. To accept the facts on the ground, that 20 -plus years of banning controlled burning, not damming rivers and building reservoirs, allowing criminal illegal aliens to run wild and to hire police, firefighters and other critical vocations dealing with public safety and security based on the most trivial of criteria as opposed to ability and competency would be to create a crisis of conscience in every Leftist that would shatter a worldview they've held perhaps since childhood and certainly over the past several generations because of indoctrination in schools.

Remember, Nikita Kruschev denounced Stalin. He did not denounce Communism. As evil as Stalin was, it was the system he promoted and used as cover to butcher countless millions.

To tweak the lyrics of Billy Joel . . . Democrats Didn't Start the Fire — Democrats ARE the Fire!!!

And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

13 Thank you JJ. I agree with you: These events will not result in a political flip in CA. Voting systems are too corrupt and many residents there (not all but too many) are wedded to the idea of voting blue like it’s a religion. Even being mugged by reality won’t change them…

15 CA isn't flipping Red. It's systematically and structurally f*cked.

FFS, the LA fires are still burning. You can create firebreaks in the forest. Not in LA, which rivals WWII Tokyo for a city that was built to burn.

By the time it burns out from running out of homes for fuel, this will be the most expensive "natural" disaster in history. I'd guess $500 billion. This will have ginormous knock-on effects including on LA's tax base. The city was already tottering. People will leave and not come back. Many have already been leaving, and not just A-listers.

17 The left is trying to turn the blame for all of what happened in california on the insurance companies for pulling out of the state and it is going to get worse. Even if somehow they find a bank willing to lend them money to rebuild in a literal fire zone, they wont give out a dime unless that person gets insurance and that ain't gonna happen.

23 because of the blood libel of institutional racism and white supremacy.

But institutional racism, sexism and bigotry is the bedrock foundation of DEI.

All the things they complained about they do in spades.

The thing that puzzles me is why the Head of the Department of Water, a refugee from the failed PG&E required double the salary to do none of the actual work. I lay odds she would have done it for half of the what the former occupant was paid.

Furthermore, its obvious that Government has transmogrified into nothing more than a jobs program. Why did she need to be paid double to just implement a racist, sexist, bigoted sinecure recruitment operation?

All of those people hired allegedly would do it with UBI income, right?

24 In retrospect it becomes more and more clear that someone or some group ran a color revolution in our country in 2020. Covid with its unprecedented (and nonsensical) rules (antisocial distancing, lockdowns, masking) combined with the summer of love social unrest (totally ginned up — and was proclaimed so important it didn’t have to follow the covid rules) led directly to millions upon millions of mail-in ballots and (presto) the removal of Trump from power. Who’s really good at running color revolutions?? It rhymes with bee-eye-bay….

Criswell said, “We’re seeing the change coming from climate change, and we’re seeing more significant severe weather events. That’s what we’re seeing here in California.”

TL;DR version...

Case by case. Anyone with "nonviolent" complaint will probably be sprung. Those with "violent" complaints will not. At issue; the use of the words "violence" and "violent" by the feds. Overly broad, to include "unwanted touching" or some such shit. So, many J6 prisoners who were convicted, and have those words, or something similar in one or more of the charges against them are, as of now, are in limbo.

You can do that when there are no consequences. I mean, you can gun down a Ukrainian women right there on camera in front of a live audience and the courts will find you not guilty.

Newsome, after bragging about blowing up dams on Klamath river, refusing to build the reservoirs that the people voted for, and fighting every measure to remove deadwood fuel for the fires calls all of these claims (that he boasted about) as "ridiculous lies" and put a "fact check" website up that directed people to fund Democrat politicians.

This is beyond being "more out in the open". He believes that he will get away with his Jedi Mindtrick. (and he will, the people of CA are that mentally retarded)

129 I had two takeaways from Vance's discussion about J6;

- the feds overuse of "violence" as a charge and how that's going to be contentious

- the majority of the prisoners will, in fact, be freed

I would suspect there's bipartisan support behind keeping the "violent" protesters in prison. Every single congress person in the capitol that day felt like they where about to be lynched. There was honest to God fear. And while that's good, IMO, there are the likes of Mz. Lindsey who pissed his pants that day and would likely fight like hell to keep many, if not all of the J6 prisoners behind bars.

It's going to be a very politically controversial issue for Trump to deal with. It shouldn't be, but it is.

I would hope that the true instigators of J6 are held responsible and not the innocents who were there and did nothing to warrant being in prison. Specifically I'm looking at the likes of Pelosi, etc. who facilitated J6.

134 So to all the cynical people posting that CA is Gone With the Wind, what good does your negativity accomplish? I suppose we're supposed to just shrug our shoulders and abandon this great state and all the million and millions of Trump voters there because it's hopeless. Just like Abraham Lincoln did back in 1860 when a bunch of states wanted to walk away from the union. Too bad, so sad, I'm glad.

What if Trump looked at America back in 2015 and came to the same conclusion? Where would we be now? You people that post negativity - including JJ, do so because it gratifies your pride to say "I told you so" and "yeah these people are irredeemable, let's just screw them."

It's true a large number of people are so heavily indoctrinated that they can't be reached. But there are many, many who can be brought out of leftist programming. And if we can reach these people, which Trump is currently doing across the country, we can save any state. We cannot give up on California, or any state.

Cynical negativity is an energy that is destructive. It goes out into the world and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I urge all of you pessimists to turn it around.

140 >>Second, Newsom has suspended all sorts of red tape for rebuilding. That should be the focus of pressing the D legislature to permanently reverse them. But the Rs won't.

A guess?
He'll be suspending all sorts of red tape on building high-density apartment housing that was formerly zones for single family units. Our governor Polis has been railing against "local red tape" re: enabling affordable housing, previously as a Harris campaign surrogate, and more recently in his 'state of the state' speech. For him and Dem leaders here, it means allowing dense, high-capacity apartment complexes with no required parking, removing building height restrictions, allowing ADUs, etc..

Newsom will use this seemingly rebuild-friendly anti-red tape stance to build 15 minute cities.

144 LA is f*cked. Many homes had no insurance. Many more were underinsured. Many are no longer worth what the last owner paid. This is a $500B+ mess. The idea of a city is that many people want or need to live there. No longer for LA. "Hollywood" was already dispersing away from LA. Other industries to now follow. Newsom can't wish this away.

One consolation is that Trump will make Newson the poster child for Woke Failure. He's going to beat him like a pinata. And then club him like a baby seal.

Posted by: Unknown Drip

Sorta. Most policies have "replacement " cost regarding the rebuild of the house. A rider or equivalent to $X per room.

Other things, such as a in-home sauna. Not so much. It's really up to the Home owner to add other things. People have hit the auto renew and will be left short.

Plus, the value of your house is based more on location. The same house on Sunst Blvd is going to be worth more than the same house in Acton with 2 acres. But the cost to rebuild is basically equivalent.

2) There's plenty of home building capacity (manufactured homes, etc.) (on greenfield sites). It's the cleanup and prep. of the old lots that will take time.
3) Any homeowner with a liability policy will get sued (you burned my home) and counter sue his neighbor. Fire coverage not needed.
4) Most of the value of those homes is in the land. The unique character of each home is now gone. It will return as a cookie cutter subdivision.

342 Good morning, all, and thanks, J.J. 🙏

>Take a look at the Congressional Budget Office's cbo dot gov/publicization/58212 June 2022, Wildfires

There's a lot in there; pl. read. Just a few points pulled out, as follows:

Forest Management, Climate Change, the Wildland-Urban Interface, and Wildfire Risk

Roughly 86% of fires are human-caused, human ignited. Lightning caused fires were concentrated in summer months.

Disaster and Recovery Assistance

(under) Notes:

"Each state has two separate cost thresholds for wildfires-one for an individual fire and one for cumulative wildfire suppression costs in a calendar year. Individual wildfire thresholds are the greater of $100,000 or 5 percent multiplied by a per capita indicator which is adjusted for inflation each year) multiplied by the state's population cumulative thresholds are the greater of $500,000 or three times the individual wildfire threshold. In each case, the federal government's share of the cost is set at 75 percent."

There's a lot in the report that could be foundational for investigation(s), imo.
