Comedians Begin to Admit They Were Pressured Into Pushing the Leftwing Propaganda Line

Update: Bill Maher knocks SNL for refusing to make jokes about Doug "Slugger" Emhoff.

Bill Maher appeared on an episode of the "Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade" podcast on Wednesday, where the three comedians got into a discussion about the media's lack of coverage around Doug Emhoff's #MeToo accusations, and "Saturday Night Live" ignoring them completely.

The podcasters welcomed Maher and recounted the SNL skit last month where Spade returned to the show to play Hunter Biden, while Carvey portrayed his old character "Church Lady." Spade expressed surprise that the troubled son of the president hadn't been lampooned before.

Spade said he "was always curious as to why they never had anyone play Hunter Biden. It was just sort of ripe for the pickings," adding, "I thought of maybe a hot-tub talk show with guests and girls."

Maher then flipped the conversation to other missed opportunities by SNL, asking "How about, why didn't they make fun of Kamala's husband when he got 'me-too'd'?," adding that "it is amazing the way this country is so partisan, including in the media and the entertainment parts of it, that when something happens for your team that's bad, it's like, you know, the angel of death just flying over the house on Passover. Like, 'we don't see a thing here.' Because, you know, Doug Emhoff was credibly accused of things that others have been accused of."

Spade followed up by noting, "Yeah, and that wasn't plastered everywhere."

Maher criticized SNL for having Andy Sandberg portray Emhoff as a "funny kind-of dorky Doug" when the allegations against him were "as credible as many other accusations I've heard."

Whitney Cummings talks about her roasting of CNN and the Democrats on New Years Eve:

"If you love your party, you have to be able to criticize it. I don't really take sides ... I always thought of myself as a pretty liberal person. I don't think the Left is as liberal as it used to be. The Left became the party of censorship. 'My body, my choice,' but you have to take this vaccine. And, 'my body, my choice,' the pro-choice party, but you don't have a choice in your candidate," she said, repeating a line from her CNN roast.

"I'm not an expert on politics ... but I am an expert on hypocrisy. I was raised by hypocrites. I've dated hypocrites. I know hypocrisy when I see it," she said about her CNN segment. "So for me, I didn't think I was being political. I was just pointing out hypocrisies across the board."

Why not roast Donald Trump during her CNN appearance? That would be "hacky."

"That's home-court advantage," she cracked about CNN's liberal bias. "There's nothing risky or dangerous about that. It bothers me when comics say stuff that's self-righteous and they get applause when they're being fake-brave," she added. "If I was gonna roast Trump, I'd have to do that on Fox News."

"And I already roasted Trump," she said, alluding to the 2011 Trump roast on Comedy Central.

Pointless useless comic Jim Gaffigan -- who conservatives formerly embraced, because of his general refusal to use profanity or "blue" material in his act, despite never having been funny -- admits that comedians were instructed to not make any jokes about the Cackling Imbecile Kamala Harris.

I'm not sure that Whitney Cummings was ever really an enemy here. As I mentioned previously, I saw her on a couple of those mostly-male-audience podcasts, one was maybe Chris Williamson, and she was generally taking positions which the leftwing propaganda media would call "far right." Stuff like being in favor of freedom of speech and thinking it wasn't good for society to constantly demonize men. Not a conservative or anything, but not one of the people you'd say were deranged like Alec Baldwin or Sonny Hostin.

My general assumption is that anyone in entertainment who says they're "libertarian" or "criticize both sides" or who "don't have party" are really saying "I lean right, but I don't want to be canceled, so I'm going to be super-vague here if you don't mind."

10 She's best friends with Tim Dillon.

I think it's safe to say she's not a rabid libtard.

That said, I think there are a decent number of comedians who truly just want to be funny (which is, after all, how they make money), and are not purposely pushing a narrative, which is pretty rare in our media landscape.

38 I always considered that type of a performer to be a popularity contest. People on the right have an ability to take a joke at their expense if it is well done. People on the Left don't have that ability...and many don't possess a sense of humor at all. So, it makes sense that comedians lean left in their acts.

Some comedians will back their way into a conservative point of view (like Bill Burr). But, he always has that lingering qualifier attached to the joke (usually done as self-deprecation) so as not to offend the left too much.

39 Saw Gaffigan live back in Michigan in the mid 20-teens. Decent show, well delivered. His unhinged TDS as well as his luke-warm (at best) Catholicism led my wife and me to ignore him ever since. There's been a weird realignment of comedy from being hollywood-centric (ie: all comedians were hoping to get a TV show so they could be the next jerry Seinfeld) to being more internet / podcast / live show centric.

With Joe Rogan and his podcast as the kingmaker.

It's weird. And probably transient. But there are a lot of great new comedians out there, especially since covid.

50 'My body, my choice,' but you have to take this vaccine.

I don't think this has been discussed enough honestly - but everything the left did with the clot shot completely destroyed their previous arguments for abortion.

If you can make someone take a poison shot because "they don't have the right to make you sick" even though the clot shot doesn't stop the spread of COVID then you can make a woman carry a baby to term *irrespective* of whether that baby is in fact a human life.

Hell you can legally mandate a woman has to get pregnant merely because the government needs that child's eventual tax payments. Because..."you don't have the right to deny me my medicare"...see how that works lefties?

60 Political comedy only works if you actually lambast everyone. That's why south park works.

But most political comedy doesn't actually lambast both sides. Jon Stewart was the worst at this back when he did the Daily Show. If his target was a Republican, his bit would be "look how stupid/evil/whatever this Republican is." If his target was a Democrat, his bit would be "Look at how this Democrat sucks because they don't articulate liberal principles well enough! Now let me tell you what they should have said/done."

That isn't poking fun at both sides, and it stops being funny when you see that's what they're doing.

That's a good way to describe him. There's a joke he does about pulling a half baked cake pan out of the oven and dumping it. And, his girlfriend at the time complaining about ruining her cake. 75 95% of modern comedians are utterly unfunny.

Ony Dave Chapelle and Ricky Gervais have any talent. I suppse there are lesser-known ones as well, butn I don[t follow stand-up comedy so I wouldn't know them. But from what I've seen, they're all left-wing hacks or wearisome shock-comics doing overdone shticks.

With most modern "comedians" you know exactly what their politics are and struggle to remember anything funny they've actually said.

Good to hear. I just haven't seen any of her work lately.

A few years back, well before the Sniffle Scare, she had a syndicated talk show which was fun, if limited in budget. She tended to have several of the same guests pretty often. But she was charming and funny. "Before I met my husband, I'd given up on dating. I'd dated them all! There was nobody left!"

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 08, 2025 04:53 PM (J2vNu)

103 I always considered that type of a performer to be a popularity contest. People on the right have an ability to take a joke at their expense if it is well done. People on the Left don't have that ability...and many don't possess a sense of humor at all. So, it makes sense that comedians lean left in their acts.

---------------

For a joke to be funny it has to be true or at least partially true. Lefties cannot allow any truth to be exposed about them and their causes.

105 Funniest gag I ever saw was at a big party several years ago -- the kind of party in a ramshackle mold house with lots of rooms and hundreds of peole milling around drinking heavily, with lots of sub-covnersations and cliques of people clustered together in rooms or corner -- and the host hase fashon a pretty realistic human dummy dressed in typical 30-something clothes, and positioned it at the end of a ratty couch, slumped over with a hat covering its "face", and a half-empty bottle of liquor and stained glass on the cffee table next to it, and in the dummy's chest he had put a porttable tape recorder playing a cassette copy of a Mort Sahl stand-up comedy routine record from the late '50s, at low volume. It just sounded like some old drunkard endless mubling to himself. They whole party went by and almost no one realized it was a dummy.

Another tell with respect to leftists is that they and their favored political candidates desperately need the crutch that "fact checkers" provide.

That is because they are both too uncurious to look into both sides of an issue themselves beyond a perfunctory surface glance and they are too slow witted to be able to formulate a cogent, focused and fact-based rebuttal to any point with which they take issue.

Slapstick comedy? all cruel... there is always the 'butt' of a joke.

Problem is when Comedians are cruel to only part of their audience, not seeming to understand that there are lines not to cross... while NOT being cruel at all, to 'protected classes'... some of whom actually deserve cruel treatment (Trans or Dems Politicians, or Globull Warmerists).

Chrissie Mayr pointed out that Cummings is only doing this now. And really taking pretty bland acceptable criticisms now. But she had no problem doing shows at venues that required the vaccine. So you know good on her for saying it now. But let's not be fools. She's a comic version of Zuckerberg. Knew what was happening for years and only now suddenly is "oh this was bad"

They don't like each other. Their camaraderie is as comrades. Which is why if you violate the sacred pact of political uniformity, you're simply on your way out.

Burt described it. It's kind of what Dennis Miller describes, when he simply said that Rush Limbaugh doesn't spout non-stop nonsense.

Burt made the mistake of saying something about some other conservative. And became the butt of "Reagan jokes", when what he said wasn't even about Reagan.

I think even the former lib comedian Evan Sayett said that progs don't like each other. But you can't really see that until you see how you're accepted by trads and conservatives.

Look up a guy named Quinn Dale on YouTube. He does a lot of 80s-style ethnic/racial jokes, but they aren't mean and like in the 80s the targets think they're hilarious. And the punchlines are almost always completely unexpected.

So here I am driving into Manhattan with a moose on my fender . . . and you may not know this, but there is a law in New York prohibiting driving with a live moose on your fender.

"Then I remember I'd been invited to this costume party. That's it! I'll go; I'll ditch the moose at the party; it won't be my responsibility!"

They go to the costume party. "The moose mingled. Scored. Had some guy trying to sell him insurance for an hour and a half. . . . Then they announce the award for the best costume. It's the Rabinowitzes -- a married couple in a moose suit. The moose comes in second! The moose is furious. He and the Rabinowitzes lock antlers in the living room! I see my chance. I grab the moose and head back upstate . . . but -- I've got the Rabinowitzes. And you may not know it, but New York has a law prohibiting driving with a Jewish couple on your car fender!"

Anyway....

Jim Gaffigan had an ongoing bit in the movie as a hockey announcer. He was not funny. Not even a little.

You're probably dealing with some current day bias. Entertainment has been so shit and unfunny that a bad comedy from the past just doesn't seem that bad. At the time its getting compared to Austin Powers and other comedies that had come out. But with what's out today it seems decent, which other old movies that seemed bad at the time have benefited from as well.
