Evening and morning to all the early risers and late toilers on this King's Day! Yeah, yeah, it's a Monday . . . but remember: Compared to being on the wrong side of the ground, even a bad Monday is pretty small kumquats, nicht wahr?

An early episode of Last Man Standing is on my local Fox outlet, one from the first year with a different actress as the oldest daughter. The show was, and is, one of the few to espouse conservative values, and it's often funny. Even if it weren't either of those, it'd be better than Soledad and her "news" thing on MeTV.

This year North Sacramento Valley weather is pretty typical, if a bit mild. The "bomb cyclone" hit the mountains pretty hard, but the valley just got periods of heavy rain with very mild wind. The wind factor combined with saturated soil can wreak havoc on walnut/almond/peach orchards - that just didn't happen.

I should be asleep, but since I'm not, howdy Pixy and techy Morons. Figured I'd ask my tech question, although I don't know what answer to expect.
My website is based on Drupal CMS. It was set up years ago by a fellow who eventually ghosted me. I did once know some of the steps to upgrade Drupal modules, but I got old and. rusty and forgot everything and don't feel like I can refresh & upgrade my skills too readily. Anyway, lots of modules have needed upgrading for a long time, and the core is several generations behind. Nothing is "broken," yet, although I get lots of notices about things that are not current and may break soon. I probably just need to go on Drupal.org and start searching for some a$$i$tance, but that, too, takes time and skills about which I don't feel confident. Been procrastinating for quite a while. Before I do anything, I thought to turn to the friendly halls of AoSHQ, wondering if some tech thread person might have advice for my situation, or at least a reassuring pleasantry. Going back to bed. Will catch the thread later in the morning as usual. My morning, not Pixy's or Biden Dog's! 😉🕓 Posted by: mindful webworker - technically squeaking at January 06, 2025 05:11 AM (erzCX) 43
@37/Aetius451AD: Because the policies of this Liberal government have come back to bite the public in the arse very, very hard and they're angry and bitter about our standard of living having gone down so hard and so quickly. We let in massive amounts of immigrants without the housing or jobs to support them, or the ability to build that out quickly. Housing prices have gone insane as a result, as also have rent prices. This has shut an entire generation of youth out of starter jobs and starter homes.
At the same time, this government has been trying to hamstring and kill our oil industry out west, when we are an export based economy, and that's not helping us on the macro-level economically either. The Liberals continue to go full on "tax and spend" (while ever increasing the spending with taxes not making up the difference) so the debt and the deficit are accelerating. This is, as the kids like to say these days, "unsustainable". To answer your question: The media knows it can't cover for the Liberals anymore, and so it has turned on the them, because it must. What I'd really do is leave the wallet alone and keep walking. What I'd be prompted to do is run to the local forex kiosk, come back, pick it up, replace the cash with the equivalent in Icelandic Krona, and relish in the thought that either the person who picks it up to keep for themselves gets annoyed, or the person who owns it and gets it back is confused as hell and has a great story to tell for the rest of their life. Apparently Gom Jabbar visited the city twice last year, using "meta" glasses to record video and photos of the area. Nothing like research to make your terror attack go well, hey? Local Fox outlet is saying he put some other bombs, concealed in coolers, at Bourbon & St. Peter (where I grew up) and Bourbon & Toulouse. @53/m: How ... refreshing!
Unfortunately, it's theater and it's short-lived. The media openly chops wood and carries water for the Liberals most of the time, and if they're not (and have switched to attack mode) it's just until they can swing around to being Liberal lap-dogs again. I've seen this pattern too many times in my life to ignore it. If the CPAC (Conservative Party of Canada) gets in (and polling numbers indicate this is likely) then the media will immediately turn on them and snipe at them about every little problem without let-up, including all of the problems they outright ignored and covered up for when the Liberals were in power (which at this point are Legion.) Okay, enough of me being negative this morning. This is not how I want to start my week. Let's shift gears here. What am I thankful for today? My wife and I have jobs. We can pay our bills. We have a roof over our heads, food in the pantry, the heat is on and keeps the cold at bay, and we have our health. May God be praised for everything he gives us, for the protections he provides, and for his undeserved ongoing kindness and love. Morning peeps. We still have power, thankfully. I haven't checked yet this morning, it's still dark, but I think there's about 6 inches of snow with another inch of ice on top of it. We may get another inch or two of snow today.
I think most everything's either shutdown or closed today. Roads are a mess. And one of the county's snowplows ran off a road and rolled over into a ditch yesterday. I think they've got 2 left. Posted by: Martini Farmer at January 06, 2025 06:34 AM (Q4IgG) 93

1 ℉ outside, with winds making it -12 ℉ wind chill. High today: 14 ℉. We have a layer of ice under 15 inches of snow. Plenty of big drifts. In every direction there have been fatal car or truck accidents. Yesterday, every public road in NE Kansas, for counties all around us, was shut down. 67 @53/m: How ...
If the CPAC (Conservative Party of Canada) gets in (and polling numbers indicate this is likely) then the media will immediately turn on them and snipe at them about every little problem without let-up, including all of the problems they outright ignored and covered up for when the Liberals were in power (which at this point are Legion.) Posted by: mindful webworker - technically squeaking at January 06, 2025 05:11 AM Drupal is PHP-based and you need to be careful with anything built on PHP because it's way too easy to introduce critical security holes in anything created with PHP.
