The post-modernism that is so destructive to traditional culture is nowhere more evident than California. Its Democrat/Progressive super-majority in its legislature gives the governor carte blanche to enact pretty much any insanity he wishes, and of course he is happy to sign bills vomited out of the feeble brains of those mid-wits who California elects as its representatives. Add a maniacal regulatory state, and we have the perfect storm of craziness.
California Wants To View Air Quality Through 'Racial Equity Lens'The job posting says the agency “is developing a racial equity impact analysis tool, known as CARB’s Racial Equity Lens, to advance the agency’s vision for racial equity — a future where all Californians equitably breathe healthy and clean air, benefit from actions to address climate change, and where race is no longer a predictor of life outcomes.” CARB says it is seeking five “passionate community leaders and racial justice experts” to shape the Racial Equity Lens, which it calls “ground truthing.” To do this, these “experts” will need to “validate data and information by comparing it with direct, real-world observations or measurements from community members the tool is intended to serve.”
Huh? As an aside...how and where do these fools learn to write gibberish? The concept of environmental protection policy being tailored to race is an expected extension of California's fixation on race as being the driver of all variation in culture. No matter that the data are clear, that there are huge variations in outcomes among minorities. The overwhelming assumption in this dystopia is that race trumps all. White people (men in particular) are injured less by pollution... by "Climate Change..." by every social variable that these mad social scientists can conjure. But not just race! Psychiatric pathology is now a reason for protection and elevation to the cherished top of the grievance pyramid! Of course in the backward and racist/sexist Midwest, where people are stupid and ignorant and don't even eat kale, they do things like protect high school girls. How very revanchist of them! And because they are irredeemably evil and traditional, they are trying to extend that protection to college women athletes! The current law in Indiana, which was introduced back in 2022, bans anyone who was born a male from competing against girls who are in kindergarten all the way through high school. Well, lawmakers want to expand that into college, with Republican State Reps. Chris Jeter, Robert Heaton, Joanna King and Michelle Davis filing a bill to do so. “To ensure a level playing field, it’s important that girls compete against girls, and boys against boys,” wrote Davis in an official statement sent to the Indy Star. “As a mother and legislator, I authored this bill because I’ve heard directly from Hoosier parents who want to ensure female athletes have a fair shot at competing and earning recognition.”
This is exactly what America needs, and these people should be praised and supported for their efforts. And the states teetering between the insanity of transgenders and a normal and sane approach to athletics (and everything else) should be emboldened by this. Does anyone think that the election of Donald Trump to his second (third?) term has anything to do with this? I sure do. Trump and MAGA are becoming the lodestar for our journey back to a more sane America. He has made his feelings clear, and he does not support the transgender lunacy on our playing fields and in our military, and rejects the obsessive fixation on race. For that alone he is worth the price of admission! And California can huff and puff and erect legal barriers to the coming changes, but all they will do is drive the remaining sane people to states that don't celebrate anti-scientific social engineering and the destruction of traditional society. The other day a colleague remarked, because temps were in the 60s last week, "imagine what it's going to be like in a couple years."
Meaning, I guess, the Globull Warmening will increase from one year to the next, so we're all boiling like frogs in a frying pan.

We here in southern Indiana are hosting a snowmageddon. We are told that there could be as much as 12" of snow over the course of today and tonight.
Usually, if the forecast calls for 6" of snow we get maybe 2 inches at most. But the snow started around 0600 and it's still going strong! We have around 3" now. We are overdue for a big snow storm.
This one is looking like it could go to the maximum French Toasts Warning level 3!!

They really need to split that state. I absolutely love Northern CA, Susanville, Seirraville, Chilcoot etc. are awesome places. Anything below I80 (with a few exceptions) is either a dump or unaffordable.

I know people like the ocean, and that's fine. I never cared for beaches, they're generally smelly and filled with scummy seaweed, and even scummier people.
As for the rest of the state... meh. I was driving through New Mexico last week. Large parts of the state are boring as heck, but west from Roswell (which was grimey and not worth visiting) is gorgeous. As is the area around and above Santa Fe.
And yet, having lived out here for some time now, if I was ranking states by beauty, it would go 1. CO, 2. UT, 3. WY, 4. MT, and 5. maybe a tie between NM and AZ.

I feel robbed. We were forecast to get up to 6 inches of snow here (Colorado) and all we got was a bit of frost. I'm enough out on the plains to be in rain shadow so I was web surfing trying to see if the foothills got the predicted snow. I don't think they did, I didn't see any hits for weathermen watching people drive in snow. Perhaps the mountains got snow, that would be good for the irrigated fields this summer.

They really need to split that state. I absolutely love Northern CA, Susanville, Seirraville, Chilcoot etc. are awesome places. Anything below I80 (with a few exceptions) is either a dump or unaffordable.

Well California does have the redwoods up in the northern corner of the state. Aint nothing like that in Colorado. Utah is mostly desert with some really beautiful canyons and rock formations and they do a great job of putting out the welcome mat for visitors. I feel like Colorado tells visitors. "Thanks for paying to come, now finish your visit quickly and leave"

I think the main draw to California is the warm weather all year round. If that's your thing, it's probably great. Although Florida has great year round weather, it also has alligators and hurricanes.
I prefer seasons. No, I don't like being cold but the snow outside my window is pretty. I don't have to go out in it. That's good because it's only 20 degrees out there. I will always prefer my Indiana home.

And not somewhere else in CA. He, and our daughter realized they'd never, ever be able to find affordable housing in the area they were located in.
The culture shock for him, and the kids, moving to Kentucky has been difficult for them. And I'm not convinced he'll be able to adapt and remain here. Time may tell...

Funny you say that. My wife, who grew up in SoCal and I, who grew up in Chicago, now live in the snowy mountains of the inner PNW where we often have to chain up our vehicles. I can't chain-up to save my life (to my never ending embarrassment) while my wife is a master at it and does it effortlessly. She learned it by skiing a lot up at Mammoth. In Chicago you never needed chains 'cause everything was flat. You just had to adjust your stopping/skidding reflexes during the winter. Heh.

The lovely and occasionally mistaken Mrs naturalfake wanted to watch a CBS series "EVIL" that has appeared on Netflix,
so we plowed through the first 3 seasons. (Apparently, the 4th and last season has yet to show-up on Netflix.)
Basically, "Evil" is the X-Files with demons and a big ole grudge against the Catholic Church. Also, the shows concept of evil is anything non-Woke, so you can imagine how that plays out.
The show concerns 3 assessors of the need for exorcism which are: a black guy studying to be a priest, a white gal ex-Catholic agnostic, and a muslim brown dude atheist. And you can also see how that plays out.
When the show sticks to the demon of the week and/or the potential coming of the birth of the Antichrist it's usually okay, but too often it's all about scoring some lame woke point often a very confused point.
In the first season the white gal virtue signals about how she hates the Catholic church's view on abortion, then she spends the whole 3rd season trying to chase down one of her unfertilized eggs that is possibly being used to create the Antichrist. Abortions okay but she acts like that unfertilized egg is the most precious thing evah.

Which is why we may not have "dodged the bullet" as the thread title suggests. Kamala can be governor of California if she wants, and I don't see why she won't want. Lightbulbs, school textbooks, all kinds of stuff gets made for Cali's idiotic standards and sold nationwide. We'll be sending more of our DEI doctors from UCLA and US Senators like Adam Schiff your way, too. Probably the only way to shut it down is to change guidelines for federal grants to States and cut Cali out of everything. No bailouts for its inevitable debts and deficits either.

It’s silly to think Kamala can be Governor. It’s hard to accept that she has absolutely no grass roots support, even in California. She only gets positions when the machine decides she’d be useful; but now that she’s washed up on the national stage what good is she? Younger replacements with a better future are a dime a dozen. Any appearances where he had to speak off script showed he was a mumbling, bumbling mid-wit. He was cunning, I'd give him that, but his greatest, and only real achievement was being born black and living near Billy Ayers.

I heard the guy Tucker interviewed a week or so ago, who talked about how the insurance companies manipulate the pharmaceutical markets.
I'm not advocating for gunning them down, but if you happen to hate insurance company execs, you probably don't know all the reasons why you should.

It's humbling, really. To realize how different people can be, and that these people find meaning and purpose where they are. I can't imagine their lives, really, despite living in the same country as them, but they go about their days, presumably without considering for a moment, how I live mine.

There are *some* remaining limits or guard-rails on the tolerance of disastrously stupid CA voters, it appears. Of all places SF has replaced both a DA and a mayor who were part of the collapse of the city's condition, and in LA a DA was booted as well. So, in extremis, it's possible to get rational voting here. Though it remains to be seen how much better the replacements will be.

Another answer to the CA rules be using around the nation would be for other states to pass countervailing rules.
Remember when one state considered banning EVs? Every red state should be considering similiar laws, not only to give it back to the left in general but to force companies to make a decision - do you follow the CA standards and get banned in TX/FL or the TX/FL standards and get banned in CA?

Outdoor sports in general here remain as abundant and available as before, actually. Crowding is more of an issue in most cases than changed regulations. Powered sports, not so sure as not into those, though people I know still pursue them (BLM land in the desert) much as they did as kids. Boating hasn't changed. Serious truck racers still practice/compete in Baja, though a friend who's big into that for decades says newbie idiots are ruining it a bit with the way they behave.

Yuuuge financial difference. In a relatively normal suburb or area (they exist in SoCal, even LA area)? Another huge difference.
The pain is also greatly reduced if 1) you're not very observant or worldly 2) you didn't live it before things went stupid. And this is part of the problem. But like much else, and not just here, it's generational.

Much of the administrative rule making and executive orders should be knocked but will be tied up in never-ending lawsuits. Hopefully, the recent SCOTUS ruling on administrative rule making will deflate many of those challenges by the trans-national green fascists.
The CAFE laws ( there are several sets of laws now ) will have to be rewritten by Congress for any real change to happen. I suspect it will come down to which group of lobbyists has more money.

For us, no kids in school, we are all 65+ so we get exemption from school taxes, we enjoy Prop. 13 and have no mortgage. Groceries are inexpensive, relatively, and plentiful.
Downside, very high energy costs, and crazy politicians hell bent on ruining all of the above.
