  • Microsoft is planning to spend $80 billion on AI datacenters in 2025. (Thurrott)

    Why?
"In many ways, artificial intelligence is the electricity of our age, and the next four years can build a foundation for America's economic success for the next quarter century," Microsoft president and vice chair Brad Smith writes. "It's clear that artificial intelligence is poised to become a world-changing General-Purpose Technology, or GPT. AI promises to drive innovation and boost productivity in every sector of the economy. The United States is poised to stand at the forefront of this new technology wave, especially if it doubles down on its strengths and effectively partners internationally."
Because you don't get a market cap of $150 billion by not creating the Torment Nexus.

Ceres Fauna of Hololive English Council / Promise had her final stream today, before heading off to parts unknown.

To commemorate her tenure, here's a link to a picture of every Hololive talent. All of them. Retired talents like Kiryu Coco. Short-termers like Mano Aloe. Fired talents like Uruha Rushia. Forgotten talents like Hitomi Chris, who only ever streamed once. Hololive China, which only streamed on Bilibili. All of them.

Twitter link.
Reddit link.

Yes, there are a lot of them. The great majority are still active.

For those following along at home:

Mano Aloe is Delutaya.
Kiryu Coco is Kson.
Yozora Mel is Hanamiya Rica.
Tsukumo Sana returned to her art career and doesn't stream much these days. You can find her online, but don't bother her, her focus is art rather than streaming.
Amelia Watson is Dooby3d.
And Ceres Fauna is Lemonleaf.

On the Nijisanji side of things:

Selen Tatsuki is Dokibird.
Pomu Rainpuff is Maid Mint.
Zaion Lanza is Sayu Sincronisity.
Victoria Brightshield is MoguGhost.

Ah, "Argylle", where practically everything you saw in the trailer was taken from the first half of the movie, the Big Reveal was a "hunh?" moment, and Baylor Fort Worth Shemp had a bod built by bombing itself with bon-bons. 52 Good morning, good people from the "Don't know what part of winter this is nor do I care" Adirondacks. There HAS been a lot of 2" drops, that slick up the roads real nice and must be plowed or sanded. They're real budget killers plus you run short or mistime a delivery and things get spicy quick. Add to this the enormous amount of road repair done -election year, anyone?. You wind up with the slipperiest substance known to drivers, fresh smooth blacktop with no lane marking.

Its more interesting to see the creative ways that the Enemedia is obfuscating it. Newsweak starts off by stating the PoA, then uses lots of random words to suggest that she started, stopped and rejoined everyone else. Another just says "Pledge Allegiance to the United States..." then spends the remainder of the article on attacks of JD for the crime of noticing.

We can't hate the Enemedia enough.

I won't know. Reading fewer articles since 95% of the verbiage is eye wash and more and more appear to be spewed out by AI.

OTOH, I have substituted all search engines now for GPT-4, the results are dubious but other than the folksy verbal tinsel (which to me is as genuine as a laugh track) the contents are more satisfying and often the receipts are provided for due diligence.

Still, one should continue to resist the urge to believe what is returned. If there is a political bent and the article is not by AI, its almost always propaganda and filled with disinformation and outright lies - which is worse than AI hallucinations.

Think about as a kid when you saw an advert in a comic book. From the day marketing came up with the idea to the day the product showed up on your doorstep was measured in months if not quarters. 182 Brave Search has an integrated AI that is halfway decent on answering questions that can be difficult with a traditional search query.

I use it to find cooking temps and times for the air fryer a lot, and the answers it gives are good about 70% of the time. But I always read a few of the articles below the answer to see where the conflicts are between different sources.

AI can be very good at answering short questions that are difficult to answer due to the complexity of the subject, but you still have to double-check with the sources to be sure the AI hasn’t hallucinated some B.S.

It’s like having your own research assistant, basically.

And people only read the first line and get confused if more than one bullet point is included.

I believe that voting and public policy will all one day be deemed to be only sustainable through AI.

So no matter how much you monkey wrench the system with unreliable data, the AI will oddly always crank out results that match the sentiments and ideology of its creators.

That's funny I don't care who you are (in your case, I do care who you are) but it's a joke we have to tell on ourselves. I was a "computer professional" from 1978 on, and we used to chuckle up our sleeves at what an IBM whiz had said, "Why do you want a computer in your house? Do you need it to balance your checkbook?" Used to speculate, in the Pong era, about just how many computer games a silly kid could play. And when Big Agency put us on WangNet and required us to fix our own IT snags by chatting online coast to coast, we resented the intrusion. You live and you learn, ma'am.

Six-fingered boobettes are probably a billion dollar commodity now.

We go through the same thing every time a tropical storm of hurricane threatens the coast.

Especially with all of our newcomers who’ve never seen a hurricane and the local media has them think it’s the second coming of Noah’s Flood.

Every case of water, gone.
Every bag of ice, gone.
Soft drinks and Sports drinks, gone.
Most of the soups, gone.
Bread and deli meats, gone
Toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies, gone.

And that’s the grocery store.
Lowe’s and Home Depot will be out of plywood for weeks.

If I was these store owners I’d be hoping for hurricanes every year.
And they need to thank the meteorologists and news media for their good fortune because half the time the storm misses or isn’t near as bad as predicted - and all that prep was a waste.
