A driver wrought carnage on New Orleans' famed French Quarter early on New Year's Day, ramming a pickup truck into a crowd and killing 10 people before being shot to death by police, authorities said. More than 30 people were injured in the attack, which the FBI is investigating as an act of terrorism.Actually the FBI contradicted local officials and said it wasn't terrorism. Of course. Maybe they've walked back their claim since then.
The driver was killed in a firefight with police following the attack around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street near Canal Street in an area teeming with New Year's revelers, the FBI said. Investigators were combing the French Quarter for potential explosive devices, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press. The official was not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity. Fire departments in big cities at least now have the stuff to put out EV fires, but its expensive and rare at least for now, from what I understand. So they can be put out, but not with the usual stuff that chokes out the fire from oxygen.

What would be helpful, would be to have military grade investigative agencies who look at how people can go into foreign lands, get weapons/explosives, and then just drive them back across the porous border.

I do a lot of work with fire departments all over the country. Mostly hazmat related. Unfortunately, there really is no effective agent for extinguishing EV batteries. The most effective technique is to drown them with water but all that does is at best stall the fire.
It's a very complicated problem and the real dirty little secret about EVs.

Here's what you need for EV fires: an open-top tank, strapped down on a flatbed trailer. Riding behind it, on the same trailer, an all-terrain forklift with at least 10,000 lb rating. And enough water tanker trucks to fill the tank on the flatbed. If an EV fire occurs, dispatch the trailer unit along with regular FD equipment. Trailer arrives, offloads forklift, which picks up burning EV, and drops it in tank. FD connects hoses to hydrants, and fills tank to submerge EV. If no hydrants near site, dispatch water tankers, too.

I have to assume there are actual law enforcement people who monitor this stuff, and will label someone's actions as suspicious when they cross the border under certain circumstances.
Either the agencies that are SUPPOSED to monitor are told to stand down, because it would be rayciss to stop a truck driving by a swarthy brown guy, or this was an operation sophisticated enough to avoid suspicion.
Like their triggers for inspection do not include electric trucks, or some other aspect like that. A white truck is less likely to be searched, having a government ID, etc.
I don't know, just speculating.

I watched the video of the Christchurch killings... I don't know how many rounds he had (and fired), but it was definitely well over 100.
He kept firing into the pile of bodies he'd created, and didn't seem to come close to running out. In fact, he was at the second site of his killings when he was apprehended, and if he'd been able to go on, I am not sure how many more he would have killed.

I had a rescue GSD named Isis. Jim, she was an angel in a doggie suit. She was one of 2 once in a lifetime dogs I have had- and I have had some really great doggies in my 29 years. She had a broken leg when we got her because her owners wanted her to be a vicious guard dog, so they starved and beat her. She was the most grateful, sweetest, bestest girl who never set a paw wrong. Oh the stories from her I could tell you! I hate this group made her name so ugly.

A key safety measure used in the New Orleans French Quarter was under renovation ahead of a deadly terror attack on New Year's Day on Bourbon Street.
The City of New Orleans announced that the bollards on Bourbon Street were being replaced ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
The project, which began in November 2024, was slated to be completed "early 2025."
Bollards are used to control crowds and traffic. They are short, stainless steel removable posts that can be securely locked behind each crosswalk.
According to a statement on the city's website, the bollards on Bourbon Street were removed and expected to be replaced within a three to four-week window, depending on the phase of the project. The bollards were replaced with "temporary asphalt."
The bollards on Bourbon expected to be replaced were between Canal Street and St. Ann Street.
Witnesses on the scene say the bollards were not in place at the time of the attack.
