Happy new Year and good tidings to all the Horde! At the stroke of midnight we lowered a man calling himself "Paul Anka" from the sixth floor of Schloss Herzog. He was surprisingly jazzed up by the project, provided that all the guys got shirts. What he meant by this remains a puzzle, as does his constant queries about where someone named "Joe" is. Werner reached out to Wu Tang Clan, the traveling hip hop collective where I once served as an understudy to Ghost Faced Killah. (They wish you all a happy new year, by the way.) They conferred, and believe that he may be a singer from the remote past, and that Werner should constantly reassure him that he is the only important person on the stage. RZA counseled that I avoid Anka when he threatens to "slice like a f'ing hammer" as this has caused injuries in the past.

Has snyone here tried tracking down an Amazon.com order that you did not make yourself, but no one you know has been forthcoming about it? It's my $100-plus mystery as I wrestle with the society's books ahead of getting ready to ship stuff off to our accountants. What I do have is three lines on my bank statement that look something like this one date. Withdrawal POS #469098 -9.99. AMAZON.COM*335MV0E63 SEATTLE WA I'm guessing that the number after POS and/or the alphanumeric string after COM* uniquely identify an order and its contents, but short of calling amazon, is there any way to pursue this? Our society does NOT have an amazon.com account, to my knowledge. Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars (TM) at January 01, 2025 05:34 AM (FzPEn) 20

Evening and morning, early risers and Jan. 1 toilers! 'Tis Woden's Day, and the start of a new trip around the sun for the Earth. In fact, tomorrow, the Earth is the closest it gets to the sun during its path around the primary. Which may be part, I suspect, of why the Southern Hemisphere tends to be so warm during their summer, along with having lots of water and less land than the Northern.
It's also my last day off after a long vacation. Tonight I have to pack my lunch for Thursday and go to bed earlier than I have been -- like going back to school. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 01, 2025 06:11 AM (omVj0) 36

Prayer for a NewYear:
Creative God, you make all things new in heaven and on earth. We come to you in a new year with new desires and old fears , new decisions and old weaknesses. Because you are a God of hope, we know that you create all the possibilities of the future. Because you are a God of love, we know that you accept all the mistakes of the past. Because you are the God of our faith, we enter your gates with thanksgiving and praise, we come into your presence with gladness and a joyful noise, and we serve and bless you. Amen. Big black Stirling cat seemed to handle the fireworks noises with aplomb last night, at least earlier in the evening, thanks to his calming chews treats. I don't know how he reacted to the main noise around midnight; I drifted up out of sleep at one point to hear a lot of it. Maybe he's outgrowing his run-under-the-bed fears.

Morning Hadrian. Sorry you had such a miserable night. Need some advice. The beagle on Monday ate artificial holly berries that were strung on thin wire. We thought she ate only the berries since on Tuesday morning she threw up the undigested fake berries and nothing else. It couldn't be that easy. This morning she threw up a wad of wire and there was blood in the vomit. Right now she seems ok, that said I'm tempted to take her to the emergency vet due to the blood and not knowing if there's more wire in her stomach. Your thoughts.

I still have my little box of Y2K bugs, which were really just Mexican jumping beans.
Posted by: fd at January 01, 2025 07:08 AM (vFG9F) - Yesterday I actually found and corrected a Y2K bug in software code I was updating for something else altogether. Wolfus, what is local news saying about the truck attack? Gang related? I have a handful of friends down there for the Sugar Bowl.
Posted by: BunkerintheBurbs at January 01, 2025 *** Still "developing." At least ten dead, thirty injured -- but the shot the local Fox outlet is using is my old corner, at least six blocks away from the shooting site. (My gosh, the trash people leave behind!) Can't wait to see which horror of leftism led to the New Orleans attack. Trans? Illegal alien criminals? Antifa? Feral youths? Islamic terror? Not the way you want to start a new year Posted by: Smell the Glove at January 01, 2025 07:22 AM (MLa3L) 118

First sandwich is done, made it open face, the egg was a double yolker so more cheese was needed. Just a nice sloppy delight, the corned venison works extremely well with the 4 cheese blend. There's a huge cinnamon sticky bun I didn't see so there's dessert. Nothing like gorging oneself for the years first meal, I say.
