Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Jimmy Carter Was Not a Good Man Who Made for a Bad President. In Fact, He Was a Very Bad Man, Too.Carter, whose guiding principle was promoting human rights around the world, abandoned the Shah of Iran and basically cut a deal with Ayatollah Khomeini, paving the way for the zealous tyrant to ascend to power. The BBC: In a first-person message, Khomeini told the White House not to panic at the prospect of losing a strategic ally of 37 years and assured them that he, too, would be a friend. "You will see we are not in any particular animosity with the Americans," said Khomeini, pledging his Islamic Republic will be "a humanitarian one, which will benefit the cause of peace and tranquillity for all mankind". Khomeini's message is part of a trove of newly declassified US government documents - diplomatic cables, policy memos, meeting records - that tell the largely unknown story of America's secret engagement with Khomeini, an enigmatic cleric who would soon inspire Islamic fundamentalism and anti-Americanism worldwide. This story is a detailed account of how Khomeini brokered his return to Iran using a tone of deference and amenability towards the US that has never before been revealed. The ayatollah's message was, in fact, the culmination of two weeks of direct talks between his de facto chief of staff and a representative of the US government in France - a quiet process that helped pave the way for Khomeini's safe return to Iran and rapid rise to power - and decades of high-stakes tension between Iran and America. In the official Iranian narrative of the revolution, Khomeini bravely defied the United States and defeated "the Great Satan" in its desperate efforts to keep the Shah in power. But the documents reveal that Khomeini was far more engaged with the US than either government has ever admitted. Far from defying America, the ayatollah courted the Carter administration, sending quiet signals that he wanted a dialogue and then portraying a potential Islamic Republic as amenable to US interests. ... To this day, former Carter administration officials maintain that Washington - despite being sharply divided over the course of action - stood firm behind the Shah and his government. But the documents show more nuanced US behaviour behind the scenes. Only two days after the Shah departed Tehran, the US told a Khomeini envoy that they were - in principle - open to the idea of changing the Iranian constitution, effectively abolishing the monarchy. And they gave the ayatollah a key piece of information - Iranian military leaders were flexible about their political future.I always thought that Carter was a victim of the Iranian revolution. Nope, he did his bit to foment it. It's not just that he was feckless in allowing Iranian jihadis to hold American hostage for (IIRC) 444 days; he in fact was part of the cause of that captivity.

Bit early for veering off topic but I feel this is important. Lots of talk about the various rape scandals in the UK, and the role of various agencies and individuals in covering for it.
What has NOT gotten widespread mention is how many local government and law enforcement officials/officers looked the other way because they were allowed to rape the girls as payment. This is not just a case of political correctness run amok, these people are foul. Also worth noting this is invariably what happens when you allow a government to disarm you. I do not see this reported lately, but there were a few insiders who spoke up -- Carter did not "bang some nails for the poor," but in fact he was a prickly PR happy asshole who would show up for lots of press images but did no actual work. My mother, God rest her soul, thought Carter was such a nice man because of his smile and he and Roselynn just seemed so nice together. That was as far as her thought process went on the subject. I became politically aware (well, aware of what was going on in the world) during the Carter years. I don't remember the '76 election too much (I would've been 9 years old), but I remember the '80 one well. A lot of people were fooled by Jimmuh's "Good Christrian" schtick, to my father's disgust. But most of them, the ones with sense, realized their error soon thereafter. But there were some idiots. I remember this elderly woman asking my father, "Did you hear the awful things that 'Riggins man' said about President Carter?" She was elderly, a notch above Daddy on the totem pole, so he could say anything, but the look on his face. Anyway, when that awful Riggins man won in 1980, I remember my father slept well that night. Had a smile on his face for days. I liked the movie "Argo." It didn't flinch in showing that the White House -- in its inimitably inept style under Carter --pulled the rug on the op when the six American Embassy staffers in hiding were most vulnerable to discovery by the IR fanatics. And the only reason they didn't end up hanging from a crane was the CIA field guy defied orders and forced DC's hand. Nonetheless, the film ends with a voiceover of Jimmah praising the op that we just saw him try to sabotage, trying to splash some credit onto himself. Such a schmuck.

Funny one I remember, and I think this was in the '90s My father had a thing about properly using a hammer, especially carpenter hammers driving nails. Politicians doing photo ops will notoriously make a mess of swinging a hammer properly. You do it with the wrist to get the most nail-banging impulse with the least effort. You get 'er done doing it correctly. Otherwise, you just wear yourself out and don't get much done. He did say that Jimmuh knew a bit about how to swing a hammer watching some video clip. He wasn't the best, wasn't some master carpenter hammer wielder, but he didn't make the mess that most politicians will. Sipple was in the crowd when Sara Jane Moore tried to assassinate Gerald Ford in '75 and probably saved Ford's life when he tackled her and grabbed the gun. Milk didn't think twice about outing Sipple to columnist Herb Caen because he wanted a gay hero, and remarked that "It's too good an opportunity. For once we can show that gays do heroic things, not just all that caca about molesting children and hanging out in bathrooms." The aftermath probably had a lot to do with Sipple's alcoholism and early death at 47. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at January 03, 2025 06:08 PM (y9nCu) 155

Carter sought approval and got it when elected. He thought Americans made a horrible mistake in 1980 and from there he could not accept that "mere mortal men" acceptance of building houses was good enough for him.
He was shunned, rightly so by the Establishment, after 1980 and sought not only acceptance on the world stage, but approval. It was always about Jimmie and he missed the vast perks of the Presidency, some got the crumbs of perks as an ex-president. Obama didn't even have him speak at the convention. Congratulations to Trump on his victory. The North/South dialogue is still in force and the reality of climate collapse will make it revolve around its solution.” Petro then goes on to affirm that “the only way to seal the borders is with the prosperity of the peoples of the south and the end of the blockades.” Petro’s reference to “blockades” shows his ideological affinity to Cuba and rejection of sanctions on Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro. “The progressive possibility in the US could not applaud the genocide in Gaza,” he concludes. What the hell is going on at Fort Bragg, and what did Lloyd Austin know about this and when did he know it? Austin’s military career included many command assignments at Bragg, and he visited the base many times while serving as Sec Defense. This included signing off on the current Army PsyOps policy. See this thread- Bad Kitty Unleashed @pepesgrandma There were 109 deaths at Fort Bragg (Fort Liberty) in 2020-2021. Suicides, drugs killed Fort Bragg soldiers at higher rate than combat and training deaths. Now in the Biden administration days, the deaths are mostly reported on individually. I am assuming the ability to kick one off a committee still exists in the new rules package for the 2025-7 House. Haven't read the current package. The thing is, that's fine leadership for a household, its not leadership for a country.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor --- Yes, this is exactly right. The public did not want our President to be poor and cold. At the same time, DC was resented for their extravagance and cutting the catered events for media assholes was a good move. Johnson - ended reconstruction and enabled Jim Crow
Wilson - 17th amendment ended the Republic. Created "our democracy" FDR - created the blob. enabled the commie march through institutions. Johnson - created the welfare state. Great migration that ruined our cities. O, and B you all already know. Posted by: Gentlemen ====Um no, US Grant and the incoming Rutherford B. Hayes administration ended Reconstruction more or less. Jim Crow grew gradually in the South but had a major upsurge in the 1890's due to the risk of a fusion ticket of poor whites and poor blacks which occurred in a few Southern elections. That is where the right to vote was seriously circumvented. The Civil Rights Act of 1876 and the 14th Amendment evisceration came from Scotus in the Civil Rights Cases (1883), Slaughterhouse Cases (1873), and Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) Wilson can be blamed for much but had nothing to do with the 17th being ratified as it passed Congress during Taft's term and achieved ratification in April 1913 by states. Wilson was in office for only about a month when that happened. Pretty accurate on FDR and LBJ but the Great Migration occurred earlier than LBJ. My mother, God rest her soul, thought Carter was such a nice man because of his smile and he and Roselynn just seemed so nice together. That was as far as her thought process went on the subject. I suspect that was how he got into office because of women like my mom and Democrats in general. The best that I can say is we didn't have to endure eight years of him and we got Reagan.
Posted by: Cheri at January 03, 2025 05:52 PM (oiNtH) Word was if Jimmy left the office to talk to Roslyn on foreign affairs the aides knew he'd come back all ready to bomb everything and they'd have to talk him down. Posted by: Oldcat at January 03, 2025 07:35 PM (n7h9X) 260
I had never heard this about Jimmy Carter, but I’m not surprised. Typical shit bag democrat, ushers in a violent theocratic leader while stabbing a staunch ally in the back doing it, only to be betrayed himself. My father never forgot Jimmy Carter’s remark about Reza Shah seeking asylum in the US while dying from cancer: “Fuck the Shah! I’m not going to welcome him here when he has other places to go.’-Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter’s legacy in Zimbabwe:
Life expectancy in 1980 (the last year of minority rule: 58.67 years (World Bank) Life expectancy in 2000 after 20 years of rule by Marxist Robert Mugabe who was supported by Carter: 34 years for women; 37 for men. It was the lowest in the world. Posted by: Rosco at January 03, 2025 08:21 PM (6Tvtm) 262

About 20 years ago I had a passing conversation about Carter with a spook from India. Their view was that Carter viewed Khomeini as a 'Man of God' and therefore a reliable partner. There is a whole category of classified documents that don't get declassified until the 'death of the principals'. The second half of Carters presidency should make interesting reading.
