Trump Gives Mike Johnson His "Complete and Total Endorsement" to Remain Speaker

I guess it's the expected action.

President-elect Donald Trump on Monday reaffirmed his support for Speaker Mike Johnson to continue leading the House of Representatives, framing Johnson as a pivotal figure in addressing the challenges inherited from the Biden administration. In his post on Truth Social, Trump underscored the Republican Party's resounding 2024 victory, stating, "We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024."

The president-elect contrasted the GOP's disciplined campaign with what he labeled the Democrats' financial wastefulness and questionable tactics. "Democrats are being excoriated for their effort, having wasted 2.5 Billion Dollars, much of it unaccounted for," he said, alleging endorsements were improperly purchased from celebrities like Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey.

Trump's endorsement of Johnson carried significant weight, with the president-elect declaring, "Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard-working, religious man. He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN. Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement." By urging Republicans to seize the moment, Trump conveyed urgency, warning, "LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN."

The "heroes" of the Freedom Caucus are getting on my last nerve -- their refusal to vote for Mike Johnson as Speaker (even though they have not put forward any candidate who could get 218 votes) means that Trump and Vance will not be able to take the offices of president and vice president.

That'll show the left, huh? The insurrection will come right from the allegedly "conservative" Freedom Caucus.

But there are only two weeks between January 6 and January 20. If the House can't find a Speaker in time to get the election certified, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance cannot take office even though President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will leave their posts.

With a non-functioning House, Trump, Vance and the House Speaker are out of the chain-of-command, which puts the Senate pro tempore in as acting president. On January 20, 2025, that will be Republican Senator Chuck Grassley.

I'm getting very tired of these narcissists grandstanding every five minutes so we can all admire their Purity.

Note to the "heroes" of the Freedom Caucus: If you block Trump from being sworn in as President on January 20th at precisely 12 o'clock noon sharp, we are coming for you.

Here's my issue: there have to be consequences for breaking political deals. If it is true that Mike Johnson made agreements for support to be Speaker and then broke those agreements, then, yes, he deserves to be ousted.

That said, they shouldn't be objecting without ANY proposal for change. Just feels like worthless theater to object without a specific proposal. State who they want for speaker and lobby for it. But if they don't win, decide on what they can support to make 218 without shutting everything down and move on.

35 Ace, your boy DeSantis is reaping even more wins in Florida...he certainly is showing a successful blueprint for Republicans:

The Hill: A second Democratic Florida legislator has switched parties to the GOP this month, citing her former party’s lack of unified support for Israel.

State Rep. Hillary Cassel (R) said in a Friday statement on the social platform X that she is not making the decision lightly, but she is joining the Republican Party because she believes in its “vision for a better, more prosperous Florida.”

Sounds like a liar. “I’m constantly troubled by the inability of the current Democratic Party to relate to everyday Floridians.” GOP talking point. Maybe she can mosey on up to some of those MAGA extremists in the GOP and ask how they feel about Jewish people (she's Jewish)?

The Republicans relate to you? A quick reminder that they were chanting "Jews will not replace us" in Charlottesville.

She just can't be in a party that has members who oppose the slaughter of unarmed innocent women and children by one the best equipped military in the world.

You make a demand when you're sure that you can obtain your goal or are very close to obtaining your goal.

51 If the Freedom Caucus was serious about their principles, they would not portray such an anemic approach to trying to influence the Congress. INSTEAD, they would be paying much more attention to the constituencies of the congressional members that consistently vote against Conservative viewpoints.

If you organize a huge swath of voters in the offender's districts, they are going to be a lot more compliant. One could argue that it would be Tea Party 2.0 with the inevitable onslaught of grifters and diluters coming in to compromise the movement...and that would likely occur down the road....but not right away. These RINO jackasses need to start feeling pressure, and organizing their voters is one way to do it.

I have no allegiance to Mike Johnson and I would like someone more conservative but we saw this same game with virtually the same cast 2 years ago. If someone can show me the path to getting someone better than Johnson actually elected Speaker I am all ears.

But if not and if Trump/Vance think they can work with him then I think it would be idiotic to have a replay of the last Speaker fight, waste a couple of weeks, only to end up with someone with someone pretty much the same as Mike Johnson.

The solution to getting a more conservative Speaker is to elect more conservative Reps. There's no magic here, as always we get what we vote for. We have a 1 or 2 vote margin of error and we have a whole lot more than 1 or 2 weasel in the Republican caucus right now.

75 I'll put it this way: I don't care what any of these scoundrels want... They can propose it. If Trump chooses otherwise, then the GOP better put a sock in it and do as commanded.

These congenital fuckups and obligate charlatans have completely failed by every single metric for many decades. There's no benefit of the doubt left to be given. They've all got a long time in the woodshed before I'll take anything they say seriously.

So until then, they need to follow Trump's lead. If any of my elected officials fail to do so - even once - I'm voting for his primary opponent and sitting out the general if it's not him.

I'm just over it. Who do these people think they are to tell anyone remotely competent or honest what to do?

Not sure you have ever encountered a true psychopath. Sociopath is just another word for the same thing, since psychopath has a sinister association. I think you meant “frauds”. They remind me of the National Review crowd in the early days. Able to mouth every “conservative” platitude, ultimately believing in none of them, and nonetheless clueless as to how they could be achieved.

We all want to change the process and how we do things. Compromising on zero of your goals ain’t how you do it.

I saw last night that even Newt was musing we should reach out to Democrats in the 60 or so House seats that are purple districts, and then launch well funded primary efforts against every single Republican voting against the major objectives. That would be as Newt also mentioned, the priorities of an overwhelming amount of the voters.

I think this theory is incorrect. The Constitution requires Congress to certify the Electoral College vote, but there's nothing in the Constitution about the House Speaker needing to preside or otherwise be involved. To the extent a presiding officer is required, have the Clerk preside as when the Speaker is being elected. The Constitution trumps House rules - whatever they are. 152 Ok, EVERYONE needs to understand that JOB #1 for the new House is to elect a SPEAKER!

NOTHING ELSE can be done in the House UNTIL a new Speaker is elected!

That INCLUDES the CERTIFICATION of the ELECTORAL RESULTS that Trump is the new President.

Jeezus, we REALLY need to start teaching Civics and Government in HS again.

153 I'm on the FC side here. The GOP House Leadership and these CR's they've 'negotiated' are a disgrace. The FC members I've heard that have actually been interviewed about this unsustainable spending are pretty resonable - they are looking for no new spending, or offsets to any new/'emergency' spending. Trump has savaged the FC and they've been more loyal to him than most of the GOP. On spending, I think they're trying to save Trump from himself. The "Moderate/Responsible" GOP reps are the problem here.

We're out of runway and options- the budget needs to get slashed and the FC aresome of the only people in that damned town tapping the brakes.

154 The House Freedom Caucus - Losing everything on principles.
Have any of these jackholes actually passed anything of consequence into law that helps the "Right"?

155 Knock off the bloviating about the Freedom Caucus, Ace. Their differences with Johnson are principled, and rooted in the Proven FACT that Johnson is a RINO squish and a backstabbing liar.

I also suggest you read the Constitution before blubbering about the necessity of a Speaker to certify the election. The House is empowered to make rules for this scenario. Just because there's always been a Speaker before certification doesn't mean there MUST be one. In fact, if Johnson weren't such a backstabbing RINO , he'd be pushing such rules through the House now - but it's in his ambition's interest to do nothing instead.

WRONG on Every Single Count. Sign up for one of those civics lessons you think others need to take.

157 Lesson from surgery: perfect is the enemy of good.

Freedom caucus wants a perfect speaker from their perspective, and they aint gonna get it. Take the imperfect one, and carefully incentivize the wrong person to do the right thing.

158 If it really is that bad, then the FC can tell the Uniparty to jump, and how high. Seems a good plan.
