America's Worst Previous President, Jimmy Carter, Dead at 100

America's current president is the worst. Jimmy Carter's passing opens an easy lane for Biden's entry into the Hall of Shame on the first ballot.

"Jimmy Carter is a good Christian man" is a lie I've heard my whole life.

He wasn't. He was a Terrorist Simp.

And he was an election denier and dangerous disinformation peddler:

Also passing: Hal Lindsey, author of the Late Great Planet Earth, a prophet of the coming cataclysm.

He was big in the 70s. Between this and In Search Of... and "documentaries" about Nostradamus, the 70s were a very paranoid and spooky time for kids.

Somewhere deep in the Powerline blog archives is an account of Jimmy Carter depriving black schools of some funding or something. And no, this wasn't an early wise move against affirmative action. It was an out-and-out old-fashioned Jim Crow racist move.

28 "...the 70s were a very paranoid and spooky time for kids."

Yes, they were. I used to walk down our suburban streets as a kid in Minny and there was NO happiness during the Carter era. Anywhere. My mom's hospital(Bethesda) received some of the first of Pol Pot's refugees and it was a shock.

Thankfully, I got to witness first hand the rise of the opposite policies with Ronaldus Magnus. By 1984 EVERYONE was happy and enjoying clean economic growth without war.

29 The late great planet earth was trash fiction dressed up as actual Bible prophecy. I knew it was hokum when I was a kid. I was always mystified why so many church going Christians were enthused by it…. Same can be said for the more recent “left behind” series of books….

As for Jimmuh, I’ll always remember my dad venting a spleen about giving away the Panama Canal. That never made sense and I’m glad Trump is making noise about rectifying that….

32 Biden said last year that Carter asked him to give his eulogy when he passed. Who knows if that is actually true as Biden is an accomplished liar and narcissist but maybe it is true. One can only imagine the hilarity if Biden did actually give his eulogy - how many times Beau is mentioned, how many times Biden slams Trump, does Biden stumble and fall walking up to the podium or coming down, does Biden tell a story of how he and Carter met the Dalai Llama while trekking through the Himalayas one Winter? Comedy gold.

84 Finally saw Godzilla Minus One. Wtf was all the hype about? I assume the critics were bought and paid for. I thought it was somewhere between OK and good.

The much-lauded story was mostly over-acted melodrama. The lead was unlikeable and spent the movie wallowing in self-pity.

Nobody seemed interested how an invulnerable giant monster could exist, or why it had a hard-on for Tokyo. "Oh, the monster can regenerate its head in seconds after a bomb explodes inside? Whatever." The Japanese government does nothing. When Godzilla attacks Ginza, half the people just stand there watching.

Plus: A cute little girl, really? Where's the puppy?

The special effects were uneven. Some were good, but Godzilla mostly looked and moved like a kid's plastic wind-up toy. His opening attack scene on Odo looked like previz for a Jurassic Park movie ... from 2010.

And the ending? That was the dumbest plan to kill Godzilla evah. It succeeded only because Godzilla stood there and did nothing while facing an obvious threat. Oh, and how was Godzilla standing up in water 1500 meters deep?

And the ending-ending? Gimme a break. Impossibly implausible and hokey-happy in a very American way.

They were so appreciative and gave me a few bucks to go through my favorite Mexican drive through for tacos to bring home.

187 The DoD did have the capabilities but chose not to use them.

The planning and training went on for months. The USAF had a helicopter with the range to reach Desert Two but the Marines wanted in on the action so they went with Navy helicopters that lacked range. Hence Desert One.

Desert One, the CIA selected site, was right next to a main Iranian highway. As soon as the MC-130s landed with Delta Force, they had to take hostage an entire bus of Iranians and got into a firefight with a fuel tanker.

The Marines never trained at night in a dust storm and guess what, they encountered such. Which lead to the loss of two helicopters which was the exact number of 'spare' airframes they had. One of the six that finally made it to Desert One had to be downchecked as inop.

So with one call to DC the mission was called off and the true tragedy occurred when an CH-53 sliced through one of the MC-130s.

269 The failed Iranian hostage rescue mission gave birth to the Osprey.

The claim coming out of that failure was lack of long range logistical support able to land in a tight area, from what my suspect memory recalls. Hence the crash worthy Osprey.

However, I also seem to recall it was a typical half measure approved by the White House because the White House didn't want to appear like they were doing nothing.

Many prominent leaders from around the world went to Nelson Mandela's memorial service in South Africa and, as is often the case at big events like this, they had a sign language interpreter there to translate for the hearing impaired. The only problem was that the movements the translator was making with his hands made no sense and many people became suspicious of him. So we brought in a real sign language interpreter to tell us what this guy was actually signing.

351 The phrase called to mind Jimmy Carter's famous "malaise" speech of 1979, in which he lamented that the country had not come together to solve its problems. Carter never actually used the word "malaise" – but he did use the phrase "crisis of confidence." In fact, it was the title of the speech.
"I want to talk to you right now about a fundamental threat to American democracy," Carter said. "The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will."

FISA court abuse, the Russia hoaxes, spying on Trump’s campaign, it all started with Obama and it has continued under his former staff and current loyalists. Add to that his lousy economic policies and especially his implementation of ObamaCare and you have the single worst president of my lifetime.

And I was born during the Carter administration. Carter doesn’t hold a candle to Obama when it comes to destroying America.

The Trumps legal team was literally embargoed from putting on a defense.

They tried to enter any all things that would exculpate Trump and get Carroll to state specifics, but the judge essentially directed the guilty verdict.

Which is basically what happened to Trump in his other trials as well as all of the other people like Manefort, Navaro, Bannon, et al.

392 With the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, former Israeli envoy to Washington Yoram Ettinger discussed the tragic mistakes Carter made, many of which still affect the Middle East today.

Ettinger recalled, "President Jimmy Carter strongly supported the Ayatollah regime's takeover of Iran. In 1978, Carter and his advisors concluded that the Persian Shah, America's Gulf policeman, was obsolete, and they believed Ayatollah Khomeini, who was in exile in Paris, would suit the US as he was anti-Communist and anti-Soviet."

Ettinger added, "Carter went so far as to declare—ten days before Khomeini landed in Tehran—that US intelligence determined Khomeini would be an Iranian Gandhi. He also claimed Khomeini had no desire to spread the revolution outside Iran, would focus on tractors rather than tanks, and be a loyal envoy for the interests of the free world."
