Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: America’s Gerontocracy – AWOL Texas Congresswoman Found Living in Memory Care Facility• Why have the public and Ms. Granger’s constituents been left in the dark about her whereabouts and the nature of her absence? • Why has Congressional District 12 gone without representation for more than five months? And how has no one in Fort Worth or her larger district, particularly the Fort Worth establishment media, seemed to notice or care? • If Ms. Granger is mentally incapacitated, why didn’t she simply retire early and allow Congressman-elect Craig Goldman to be appointed in the interim so the district could be represented during this critical vote and transition period?Kay Granger is almost 82 years old, and was elected to Congress 28 years ago. To her credit (?), she did not seek re-election this year, and she’ll be replaced by a new Congressman when the next Congress is sworn into office in January. But she should have already stepped down, and she was almost certainly not fit for re-election in 2022, so why did she return then? Money and power are powerful lures. Upon her re-election in 2022, and with the Republicans gaining control of the House, Rep. Granger became Chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee. How convenient for all the rest of the pork-slingers on the committee for them to have a cardboard cutout for a Chairman. She did finally step aside as Chair in April of this year, while remaining a member (albeit inactive) of Congress. Did her peers know that she had lost her faculties? Of course they did. In fact, just last month, despite Rep. Granger being unable to cast a vote on the House floor due to her dementia, she was propped up for a picture with the House Appropriations Committee to celebrate the hanging of her portrait. Seriously. That is the header photo I used, taken on 11/19/2024. Her peers knew full well that she was still a member of Congress and they knew that she did not have the capacity to vote on the floor of the chamber. Ryan Girdusky tweeted that Rep. Granger’s mental incapacity was widely known in D.C., stating that a friend had lived in the same building as Rep. Granger, and that ”she could be found roaming the halls, asking people if they knew where she lived.”
Yet amidst her dementia and her move to a memory care facility, Rep. Granger has been actively tweeting on X/Twitter. Obviously, it has been her staff doing the Tweeting. They may not be manning their offices any longer, but they sure do think highly of themselves. This tweet from Rep. Granger praising her interns was just three days ago. (This is a screenshot, not an embedded tweet, in case it gets pulled down.)

Why have the public and Ms. Granger’s constituents been left in the dark about her whereabouts and the nature of her absence?
Because the public and her constituents are, at most, only tangentially related to the position. Why has Congressional District 12 gone without representation for more than five months? And how has no one in Fort Worth or her larger district, particularly the Fort Worth establishment media, seemed to notice or care? Because it doesn't matter. Have a rep or don't. Have that rep be present or not. The results are more or less the same in most districts. There are exceptions, but the exceptions are comparatively rare. If Ms. Granger is mentally incapacitated, why didn’t she simply retire early and allow Congressman-elect Craig Goldman to be appointed in the interim so the district could be represented during this critical vote and transition period? Because her office runs on auto-pilot, with most of her orbit operating independently and eating their paychecks and none of them are interested in ending the party just because the host is dead (or permanently incapacitated, in this case). As to why the media chose not to cover the story of a Republican Congresswoman with dementia, the answer seems quite obvious. The media was actively engaged in an “Emperor’s New Clothes” propaganda campaign to convince Americans that their eyes were deceiving them about President Biden’s dementia. Exposing an AWOL Republican’s dementia would have hurt the narrative.
++++ To a point. I think it's deeper than that and way more than just Biden. This is distressingly common now. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that a fifth or more of Congress is on dementia drugs. They're ancient, corrupt and decaying. Biden was a big, obvious example but he isn't abnormal (only abnormal in the context of the Oval). Even if Biden had been hale and hearty, this still would have been loudly ignored. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at December 23, 2024 11:09 AM (HnUIn) 33

I'd take any of the above-
Attendance requirements, Term Limits, or Age Restriction Term Limits is my preference- if no one in congress wants to attend, that makes the country safer. On age limits, I'll compromise, as there are definitely some who remain capable in old age. Maybe you cannot be RE-elected once you are over 70. I like how the Articles of Confederation handled term limits. Everyone's term was one year, and they were prohibited from serving more than three years in any six year period. That gets around the idea that you can't elect the people you want to elect, in that all you have to do is wait a bit and then elect them again. It also helps to prevent a permanent incumbency and professional political class.
I don't recall that the Articles had an attendance requirement. That our Constitution doesn't have one either is probably because none of the Founders thought such a thing necessary. But in today's age we need one. I've seen the proposals for term limits in an Article V convention, and am unimpressed. They create as many problems as they purport to solve. Until an Article V convention is prepared to deal with term limits (and attendance) in this fashion, I'm not convinced that it would solve anything. It was only the destruction of society through covid lockdowns that undid him at all (and even then, it required six states to stop ballot counting in the middle of the night to ballot box stuff like Tammany Hall to barely get Biden a victory). But, the left long ago lost self-control. Every major leftist news organization is going to be dragged into every controversy or else they'll lose their crazed readership. Debunking The Myth Of Oil Refiner Price-Gouging In California
In 2022, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB-1322, the Oil Refiner Price Disclosure Act, into law. - California's high gasoline prices are primarily driven by state taxes and fees, not excessive profits by oil refiners. - Data from the California Energy Commission reveals that oil refiners often operate on razor-thin or even negative profit margins. - Policymakers should focus on reforming California's tax and regulatory structure to address high gas prices instead of targeting oil companies. We go on a great deal about never watching football, but this shows the lasting effect of pep rallies on the national psyche. Your old-school function in congress was not to yay-yay your rah-team, but to bring the concerns of your constituents to the national forum. Term limits, as we crow them, will do nothing but put the selection of the next nickelback in the pocket of Coachie and The Owners. ===== Given the unbelievable amounts of pure *graft* that were in the first 1,800+ page version of the spending bill last week, I'm right there with you. I'm sure we'd all like to just move on and pretend it didn't happen, but that thing was chock-full of outright (attempted) *theft* from the people of they were pretending to "serve". Seriously, there were so many horrible ideas tied to so much seriously over-the-top dollar amounts it really left me questioning whether anything about the current Congressional setup is worth saving. As just one TINY example, the money tied to rebuilding that bridge in Baltimore was by one estimate FOUR TIMES as much needed to competently accomplish the job, and that's even assuming that the Federal government is supposed to be on the hook at all for that rebuild. And FOUR TIMES over-spending pales in comparison to the attempt to fund things that no serious and God-fearing people should be involved with at all. That first attempt at a bill last week should scare the hell out of all of us. Our elected "leaders" don't fear us at all--truly, the game is over. Congressional staffers are some of the most influential and powerful unelected people in the capitol city. They write the legislation (with help from outside lobbyists) the politicos pretend to know about and to have read... when they clearly don't and haven't.
Staffers are responsible for writing up "talking points" and making sure only certain newz outlets get their charges on the tube or in print. Lastly, the congressional staffers shape the legislation and through their influences on whomever they're working for, shape the world we end up living in... politically speaking. They are the ones drafting pardons by the hundreds. Pushing the trans-agenda. Hiding congressional misdeeds and thwarting investigations. They are the ones pushing the administration's agenda. Not everyone is getting "memory care," other than what most families do, which is help their elderly family members sort out their pills, pay their bills, and take them places so they don't have to drive. There's a point at which this becomes a diagnosable condition, and the story just ran with it, on flimsy information, or stuff they just made up. e) Randomly, a FEMA inspector shows up at your house a couple weeks later, totally unannounced.
f) You're thrilled to them, stoked that you may finally get some help rebuilding and some federal aid. g) The inspector walks through your home and says, "Hey look, this is really bad. We think your home is gonna require $250,000 worth of repairs." h) You reply, "I know it's bad, but we've done a lot of work ourselves and a non-profit has donated some materials, so all-in it's probably only $100k." i) The FEMA inspector shrugs his shoulders and says "Ok, but my estimate is $250,000." j) Again, you're thrilled. You think that because FEMA says the damage is a high-dollar value, you'll get MORE help from the federal government. k) A few days go by and you're ready to apply for a permit to begin building your home. l) But when you try... the county says, "Wait a minute, your home is only worth $400,000 and the FEMA inspector said your damage is $250,000. That exceeds the 50% rule." m) You ask, "What is the 50% rule? I've never heard of it." n) The county explains that if the cost of a repair for your home exceeds 50% of the VALUE of your home, you cannot rebuild. In an interview with Margaret Brennan of Face The Nation, Mayorkas was asked about the 32,000 unaccompanied children who have entered the United States between 2019 and 2023. According to Donald Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan, these children are being exploited and trafficked for criminal entreprises. The argument has been made, however, that no amount of security would have saved Lincoln. As a well-known actor, Booth could have simply told the guard that he wished to pay his respects to the President, and would've been shown right into the box, where he was at close enough range not to have missed. The general public was not aware of his Confederate sympathies.

We need a Constitutional amendment implementing term limits. We don't want Congress to be able to change them.
How about a maximum of four terms in the House and two terms in the Senate? Our Congressmen need to return to private life if they have reached the maximum number of years in office. Oh, and no Congressional pensions, either. Posted by: Ralph at December 23, 2024 12:40 PM (TysyT) 251
