Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Meet The PetMorons

Whiskey PJs.jpg

Hi K.T.,

Little boy down the street is best pals with my dog Whiskey. He had his mom buy matching family pajamas for Whiskey so he could be included in their family picture. He's coming over Tuesday evening to collect Whiskey for the photo shoot. These are XL--I've got to do something, or his heart will be broken!

Have a wonderful Christmas!

IrishEi

Well, it's pretty amazing that the little boy down the street wants your Whiskey to be in his family picture! Please let us know how things go with the under-sized PJs.

I might be open to having Whiskey in some family photos, too. What a great dog!

parrot rainy ll.jpg

Hi. Merry Christmas!

Meet PetMorons Rainy (African Grey Parrot 29 years old) and Isabella (greyhound mix, retired agility enthusiast, 11 1/2 years old).

Rainy has mentored several generations of dogs in our house hold. She loves them - tosses food to them, emphatically tells them what and what not to do, perfectly mimics their voices, and always wants to get closer. However, she has been known to express her love in painful ways, so the dogs approach with a healthy dose of respect. As all AoSHQ pet lovers know, they enrich our lives beyond measure. Thank you for doing what you do.

LauraLurker

What a perfect photo to exemplify the relationship between Rainy and Isabella! Thanks for the wonderful details about these extra-special PetMorons.

Thanks, Nurse! Stirling has been featured here before when he was much younger and smaller. This was taken just last week; he's fourteen lbs. and (I hope) has reached his full growth.

TRex asked last week when I described the session with the Santa outfit, "And how much blood was lost during the fitting process?" I replied, "Amazingly, none." He (Stirling, I mean) took it all with very good grace, in fact even better the second time. The suit is held on with simple velcro straps at chest and belly, so it's not uncomfortable for him to wear. He did try walking backwards and then leaping a little in the air like an exuberant goat to get the "thing" off. When that didn't work, he paced around and finally settled down where we could photograph him.

In my admittedly limited experience (three cats), black cats are the most agreeable and easygoing among the coat colors, and maybe the smartest. The late Marie-Antoinette was tops in the brain department and was always ready to try something new. Are yours easygoing and even-tempered?

35 The brownish-grey cat positioned on the carpeted steps looks much like Dagny, though she is not as long in the body.

She has taken to keeping me company on rare occasions: sitting on the end table under my reading lamp, and sprawling out on the bathroom counter when I brush my teeth or shave. Not every time I do any of these things, but more often than she once did. About time, after more than two years here.

Back on topic: Since Stirling took the Santa outfit business with such grace, even easier the second time, I wonder if he might be one to accept a harness and lead for short walks outside? Yes in the main. Cole has been a 'daddy' to both Biscuit's litter
and Brie's. He loves kittens. On the other hand he's been known to go after a few of the other more timid older cats. On the other hand (LOL) he protects his Mom, Luna, when she gets harassed.
Luna, Cole and Biscuit are black, and also Chunkers and Salem. Salem is still scared of me. He's a big cat.

Stirling looks about as happy as cat wearing clothes can be, I think.

Maybe they were all just perturbed that the cat suit is designed backwards? Shouldn't the fur trim and belt buckle be on the belly side, like it would on us?

61 Buckley came back from boarding school on Christmas Eve. I spent an hour and a half with the trainer learning how to use the e-collar. I was hesitant at first about using one on him but her had very strong impulse control issues. I think it is really helping him with focusing. I've only had to turn it up to stop him from chasing the cats. It was stupidly expensive to send him away to get trained but I have to admit that it was worth it. I was able to take him to the elementary school 1/2 mile away, have him off leash, and walk in all the way home off leash. He is not perfect but every one can live with him now.

64 Greetings to alla y'all and thanks for the post-Christmas pet post, KT.

Our Daisy the exuberant Malinois had a good couple of days. Christmas Eve, daughter and son-in-law were here, with their two dogs, Chowie and Maya. Pic of the three of them waiting for treats in the Dec 16, 2023 Pet Thread.
https://acecomments.mu.nu/?post=407399

They were back again on Christmas Day, and SonM was here with his huge Malamute Jarl and the more Daisy-size dog Bandit. Lots of running around and playing in our little house, and some in the back yard.

SonM got Daisy a nice sweater and a heavier coat. We've had mild weather this winter so far, no cold that Daisy minded when she's out racing around, but I'll bet she'll enjoy the garments on walks when it gets colder.

Ony the old black cat hides when the house fills up with people and dogs. She got Christmas gifts, too, a pair of toys that look like bacon and an egg, and clean-your-teeth treats. She's never been much one for toys, but she liked the treats.

65 "black cats are the most agreeable and easygoing among the coat colors, and maybe the smartest"

Well, my one instance of experience was 50/50 on that proposition. My late cat, Molly, was very agreeable and easygoing, but the sweet girl was dumb as a box of rocks. We lived in the same condo for many years, but when we opened the sliding glass doors to the deck, at least once a week she's peer out the door as if she was thinking, "I've never seen this place before!"
