Vapid Marxist Idiot AOC Snubbed in Quest to Land Major Committee Leadership Post

The sniveling femboy propagandists at Axios reported earlier on Pelosi's fight to keep AOC out of power.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is facing strong headwinds -- including opposition from House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) -- as she tries to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
Why it matters: Senior Democrats say that while Ocasio-Cortez is seen as the favorite over Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the race is still in play.
The fight comes as several septuagenarian committee ranking members are facing desperate battles against -- or yielding to -- younger challengers.
"Many members are concerned about [the] precedent these races are setting," one senior House Democrat told Axios.

So the Gerontocracy is fighting to keep power versus a challenge of its younger, woker, more lunatic rivals.

But the Gerontocracy is strong, as Mitch McConnell could tell you.

In what can only be described as a significant snub, the Democratic Party opted for Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Virginia congressman with more seniority, to take the reins. Connolly edged out AOC in a 34-27 vote, sending a clear message that seniority still holds weight in the party, even when younger, high-profile members push to gain influence.
The position opened up after Rep. Jamie Raskin vacated the role to pursue the top Democratic spot on the Judiciary Committee. Raskin ultimately lost to Rep. Jerry Nadler, but AOC couldn't capitalize on the opportunity. Instead, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, which makes these recommendations, appeared to double down on legislative experience over experience as a ditzy former bartender.

Connolly was supported by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi -- a true sign of her continued influence over the caucus despite no longer being in leadership. According to some reports, Pelosi was actively trying to sabotage AOC.

Almost overnight it seemed that AOC had the job sewn up: She secured the support of the majority of the Democratic members on Oversight and was talking to the press about her hopes for the role. But the position is not awarded by a vote of committee members. It's voted on by the entirety of the House Democratic Caucus.
That's where the trouble started. Not one to let a young person ascend quietly, Nancy Pelosi entered the fray. The patron saint of Democratic gerontocracy, 84-year-old Nancy Pelosi is supposedly retired from leadership, but this month, she actively threw her weight behind 74-year-old Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, who was just diagnosed with throat cancer. Now, Pelosi is whipping votes for Connolly, whose potential promotion would cap off this "changing of the guard" by replacing a 61-year-old with a guy in his mid-70s. And because Pelosi suffered a fall in Germany and had to have her hip replaced, she's essentially whipping votes from a hospital bed.
Once Pelosi backed Connolly and began making calls on his behalf, the moderate New Democratic Caucus announced it was formally backing Connolly as well. Not to be outdone, the Congressional Progressive Caucus announced it was formally backing Ocasio-Cortez. And the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in a rare move, threw its weight behind Ocasio-Cortez, too.
It looks like a classic battle along ideological lines for Democrats--progressives versus moderates. But it isn't that. Ocasio-Cortez is indeed one of the best-known progressives in the country, but she's also, importantly, one of the best-known Democrats period.
The most charitable line on those Democrats backing Connolly is that some centrist members are nervous about making AOC such a major face of the party. And lawmakers in their 60s, who have spent a long time waiting their own turns in line, don't want to see the seniority system completely scrapped. If you trawl through C-SPAN clips you'll also find that Connolly can be an animated messenger--he's a self-proclaimed Irish fighter--and he definitely has a cool mustache.

Some Democrats think the lesson of the 2024 election is "let's be more brazenly Marxist."

On thinking over this, I disagree. I think Bernie was just the one to say that the whole process should belong to the voters, not the elites who sit in the government and coordinate with the people that are exploiting them.

But damn...a 4K release of The Keep? Craziness.

I've been following the case from right after she vanished and before her dad killed himself. The media coverage was spotty and very tabloid-y, pursuing every imaginable angle and bizarre detail or lead. Some of the rumors, like that she's been trafficked, are false. I think the false media stories ramped up her dad's despair 100x more than it would have been otherwise. I'm not saying they caused it or contributed to it, but there's no way they helped.

A 7-vote margin when there are only 61 votes is a solid victory. As a percentage of total votes, he beat her 55.7 to 44.3, an 11+ point margin, a landslide. One of those journalists whose main criterion for choosing a career was "no math", and was too stupid to realize that even journalism requires basic middle-school math.

379 Connolly is every bit as Marxist as AOC. You won't believe the crap he has said on local, Northern Virginia radio interviews. He isn't all that bright either but he doesn't get as much press coverage as AOC so you don't see him shoot off his mouth as often as she does.
