Castle -
Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (later Napoleon III of France) visited the castle in 1850. As emperor, he asked Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in 1857 to undertake its restoration, which was continued by Maurice Ouadou and then Juste Lisch until 1885. It was a real fixer-upper. From the Slop & Pail (The Globe & Mail):
"Trudeau says he won’t quit but will reflect on events in wake of Freeland's resignation" https://archive.is/ddT0e Once again, Castreau panders to his own ego but does nothing of substance. Parliament has risen for the holidays as of today, so nothing will change until they sit in session again in the new year. And then nothing will likely change then either. The one thing that might save the Liberal Party of Canada from complete destruction in the next federal election would be if one of their own members got the Speaker of the House to recognize them, and introduced a non-confidence motion on their own government. If all the Liberal MPs were in on it, and agreed to not follow the party whip, then the Conservatives and Bloc would pile on, and there might well be enough votes to topple the government. But... They won't do that. They are weak and fearful and do not have the stones to pull a move like that, and so they will be destroyed when the election is finally called. I will shed no tears for them. They have earned their destruction. Let it come. Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at December 17, 2024 08:17 PM (O7YUW) 62

They can get credit for stopping the nightmare and make nice to the CDU/CSU, which will probably need them because the second largest party is AfD, which no one will talk to because they are too rational. "Two NY men die after using penguin poop — described as ‘natural superfood’ for weed — to grow pot."
This is why capitalism works. You outsource your needs and wants to people who can do it properly and better than you. You do what you do well in exchange for a commodity you can use to give that professional pot grower who won't use penguin poop (or be sued), which commodity is usually some combination of zinc and other base metals, or paper with metallic foil and ink on it. Attorney General Merrick Garland finds himself in the congressional crosshairs as Republicans on Capitol Hill intensify investigations into his Department of Justice’s alleged coverup of a solar energy scandal centered around a plant based in Nevada called Crescent Dunes.
“I am writing to express my concerns and seek clarification regarding the recent motion filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) on November 6, 2024, to intervene and dismiss the False Claims Act (qui tam) lawsuit filed by CMB Export, LLC, against Tonopah Solar Energy, LLC, and its affiliates,” Rep. Had a lovely time at grandson's middle school winter concert. His sixth grade band did quite well. Seventh and eighth graders even better. They're all so cute in their white shirts and black pants or skirts. Little professionals.

Sounds like something to run away from.
Rust should be where the toilet goes plus battery area. Camper shell shot also? Posted by: Anna Puma at December 17, 2024 09:27 PM (bLaAy) The tilt roof is off it, and leaning up against one side. Canvas is in rags. Rust in roof, in nose panel, and suspect in rear quarters. Exterior paint bad, with surface rust around window frames. Rubber gasket between engine and body is mostly gone. They should have stored the radioactive material in a pink suitcase with a "Devil Wears Prada" sticker on it. Sam Brinton would have caught that shit immediately. Posted by: gKWVE at December 17, 2024 09:32 PM (gKWVE) 175

Chateau de Pierrefonds looks like it could use a bath. This has nothing to do with the French, in particular, but in pretty much every photo, the castle looks filthy outside.

A normal Type 2 1974 Bus on ebay, there are two listed. About $34,000 to $43,000.
How cheap is this one? How deep are their pockets? Does it even run? Posted by: Anna Puma at December 17, 2024 09:38 PM (bLaAy) 181

I still don't know why Martin from the Simpsons chose him to fill out the Bs between Asimov and Clarke. Bova, Bear, Benford all exist and yes also Bradbury.
Posted by: gKWVE at December 17, 2024 09:17 PM (gKWVE) because Bester is fun, where Bova was dead flat serious, Bear is odd and Benford writes like a physicist and insisted on using elements like "frame dragging" like it would help the plot move. . . . The FAA already regulates "drones", be they fixed wing or otherwise. There are exceptions based on weight and size, but once these exceptions are exceeded one is subject to the usual labyrinthian federal regulations. Theoretically if one is flying a non-exempt drone, the feds can arrest you. A drone that is 5 ft in diameter would be regulated, assuming the Feds can catch you.

Earth was flat out odd.
At least in the book The Postman, the main character is just a survivor who got trapped by his own web of lies and thus created hope by accident. Full hate must be reserved for what Kevin Costner did to the book to make his movie. So it might run, but would require some assembling to make it run. Nice old folks, not wealthy. She has sentimental attachment to it. It would make a nice project for a VW van enthusiast to buy and restore, provided the rust was not structural. I see no upside for a buy and flip. ------ FAA license, insurance, tracking devices, training, registration, etc. Plus coordination with local authorities if you're flying a drone over X ounces in whatever area they consider "restricted." Posted by: Martini Farmer at December 17, 2024 09:56 PM (Q4IgG) 191
None of the guesses about searching for something square with the drone events in VA, OH, UK, and Germany, all of which were around US military installations, at least one of which was repeated for days on end. The NJ stuff (whatever tiny % is not easily dismissed) isn't very interesting, the stuff at military sites might be. And I don't see how the military sites serve to make other areas seem "normal" - they don't, at all, they make it more likely there is nothing at all elsewhere. The activity at military sites is confirmed by the military and some detail given.

That poor Type 2 sounds like a full-on tear down, find the rust, find the dents, fix both, and rebuild with new seals, new wiring harness, rebuild the motor, rebuild the camper top, refit the interior... and empty a vault of money.

Posted by: EdmundBurkesShade at December 17, 2024 09:57 PM (WvGHv) I had the exact same experience with a '72 VW van. The "Type IV" engines are much more expensive to replace or rebuild than the Type I, and less reliable. Hand grenades, they are. And retrofitting a Type I is impractical.
