Meet The New Boss...Dumber Than The Old Boss

I'm too old and jaded to assume that any branch of the federal leviathan is any good at what they are tasked with doing. I'll reserve judgement about our armed forces, because even with the catastrophe of Obama's purges and the focus on how to walk in pumps and respecting people's pronouns, there are undoubtedly many NCOs and even some officers who are expert at killing people and breaking their things, and can lead their troops to do something other than a bump and grind.

But in the main...government is bad at doing things, and the federal government, with its magical never-ending stream of funds seems to be the worst of the bunch. Yet every day it seems as though they are getting worse! The shift from minimally competent government employees that we expected even into the beginning of the 21st century has morphed into a chaotic clown show of poorly planned responses, idiotic Newspeak pronouncements from gibbering fools, and the abject failure to do even the most basic stuff.

Six Shot Missed Within 5 Feet: House Task Force Publishes Damning Report on Trump's Attempted Assassinations

The agent who noticed the suspected shooter was five feet away when he noticed the barrel of a gun. He fired six shots and struck naught. However, the Secret Service has yet to confirm the actual number of shots fired, another embarrassing failure by the elite security service to account for ammunition spent.

I won't even address the shocking failures in process and planning, and the even more shocking complacency that was perhaps intentional.

How can the United States Secret Service keep in its employment a man who missed his target from five feet away? With six rounds? How can the United States Secret Service fail to notice that at least one of their front-line employees -- a man tasked with protecting the life of a former and soon-to-be current president -- can't shoot his weapon with anything approaching competence? What sort of training and evaluation does that federal department use that is unable to sort out and reject a man who is that profoundly bad at his one job?

Mystery Drone Swarms Spread to Maryland
[...]an FBI official confirmed in an interagency press call on Saturday that drone sightings had spread to Maryland, but stopped short of saying they were directly connected to the original reports in New Jersey.

“There’s no confirmation that any of those [initial reports] are linked to anything that’s being observed throughout the country, or at other locations,” the official said.

“I don’t want to cause alarm and panic, but we can’t ignore the sightings that have been there, and we are concerned about those just as much as anybody else [who’s a] resident here of New Jersey,” he added.

The official said the FBI is conducting an ongoing investigation into the origin of the sightings.

If the United States federal government is so fantastically incompetent that it cannot call upon its vast resources in the armed forces, the Department of Homeland Security, the FAA, and the various other overlapping functions that it funds with our tax dollars to figure out what the hell is going on, then they obviously need to be sent packing, because they are worthless.

Well, except at butchering the English language with nonsensical blather that means nothing. At least the official is "concerned!" That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Every day that passes with more of these sightings and without a coherent and understandable response from the federal government makes normal people suspect that either the government isn't trying hard, or they are incredibly incompetent, or they are covering up something.

My money is on all three.

At the risk of being coarse, my current impression of our government is that they could f*ck up a wet dream. Can anyone point to a successful project or action by the federal government in the last four years?

And yes, they have succeeded in flooding the country with illegals, but they did it in such a hamfisted way that pretty much the entire country is pissed off and wants it to end. So what they got for their labors is a profound realignment in, and hardening of America's opinion about illegal immigration, and as a lovely bonus it probably got Donald Trump elected!

To "steelman" this, Routh had set up a nest with two ballistic plates hung on the fence to protect him. However, that agent probably should be given a shotgun for future patrols until he can get more practice on a range.

This is the first time I’ve heard the agent was so close to Routh when he fired and the first time I’ve heard he fired so many shots. It always seems to get worse with more info; like slanted roofs in Butler. I remember this agent being lauded in the immediate aftermath for being such an eagle eye to see Routh’s rifle barrel in the foliage… but from 5 feet away it doesn’t seem like such a feat…. In those Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns, Clint Eastwood could shoot apples off trees from 100 paces… and shoot hats off heads without hitting the head beneath! I guess that agent is not the man with no name…

The NEST (nuclear emergency response) has aircraft and vehicles that can already do this. In fact, detectors are all over the NYC area, the D.C. area and most other large metro areas and along Interstates.

Why use drones if you've already got the gear to do this?

If it's a proof-of-concept I would think a better location to test this would be out at Area 51 or some other out of the way place.

38 At the molecular level, think of every govt employee vs an employee in the private sector. In the private sector, you do a shit job you eventually get fired. In the govt not only is there job for life security, promotions are automatic in most cases, just due to seniority.

There is no incentive to hire good people. And there is no incentive to do a good job. The entire system is set up for failure.

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at December 15, 2024 12:21 PM (/StR6)

39 The most plausible explanation for the drone sightings I've read, is this;

A test of technology to vacuum up data from both wired and wireless devices that transmit over the air and/or physical data/phone lines. Data from cell phones, wireless devices, credit card readers, security systems, telemetrics from 'connected' vehicles and so on.

A contractor for the feds is running it. The feds would you rather not know the scope of the test and the scope of the data being collected.

It would allow warrantless, mass searches of every type of data communication used by the public. And it leaves no trace.

You know why the feds would love to be able to do this on a whim, right?

Since the end of WWII American military leadership has tended to poor, and frankly since the end of the Cold War traditional notions of competence have been de-prioritized anyway.

It is more important to our military leadership to have an officer that will follow DIE requirements or enforce the clot shot mercilessly then someone that could say violently defeat an enemy force on the field at minimal cost in American lives and treasure.

Potentially even more then that. Remember in one of the Nolan Batman movies they use wifi as a sort of sonar so they can monitor not just electronic communications but also allow you to physically construct any location they want with sufficient wifi signal? I saw a group presenting a successful demo of this...

But to the larger point the drone stuff is either:

1) The government doing something and answering with their standard "who knows...maybe its ALIENS!" answer they always use when they want to cover something up

2) The FNM spinning crap up for ratings. I have noticed a non-trivial number of these "drone sightings" are just airplanes at a distance noticed by people that don't normally look up in the night sky

63 What Eeyore said, basically, at least to complete the picture. There's a general decline in quality and standards. Like any other large group or institution, guvamint will to a great extent mirror the merits and flaws of the society from which it is drawn.

The "woke" poison has been around a while, but was for a long time confined to academia - another separate, artificial universe with its own known pathologies - and scoffed at as just another one of those pathologies. Well now it stains almost all institutions, public and private.

And then there's the fundamental but boring discussion of public vs. private goods. Which is basic to all this, but ignored or unknown.

65 Ok. I'm sure that, compared to a lot of Morons, I'm a *lousy* shot. I'm busy and consequently lazy with free time. I haven't put in a lot of consistent range time since I was in high school and had all that beautiful free time to go plinking. Usually just a half dozen times a year. Shamefully, it's been a couple years since I went shooting at all, because of work and family stuff.

But six shots inside *5 ft?* Yeah, I'd have hit the motherfucker. Probably fatally. Certainly disabling. Even with the wife's snubnose .38.

Unless this guy was Agent Smith from the Matrix, there's very little excuse for missing like that. I remember once being ashamed because i unloaded a revolver without hitting a target at least 12 ft away. But that was a scurrying marmot, not a full sized person standing on two legs. And I was firing from a moving vehicle.

Compare how much time Agent DEI spent taking HR compliance courses versus field live fire exercises.

It does if you can get the government to control the cartel through "anti-monopoly" legislation. remember, the first thing Congress does in this case is consult with the major players for the targeted industry. Try mounting a start-up in an industry that is being regulated by anti-monopoly rules.

73 How can the United States Secret Service keep in its employment a man who missed his target from five feet away? With six rounds?

I am familiar with one Federal agency, and the Federal civil service rules are written to require vast amounts of senior management time to fire someone, if the person chooses to contest his firing.

So, you have a choice - do you tie up a lot of the time of senior management trying to fire some terrible performers, or do you just assign them to make-work slots, where hopefully they won't do too much damage.

76 Mass hysteria/power of suggestion is one thing, but I find the focus on that aspect uninteresting. I return to the three cases of reported anomalous drone activity over US military installations - central VA/naval, UK, and Ramstein. All confirmed by the military. At least the VA one was many consecutive nights, with many UAVs.

There have been UAV intrusions, mostly harmless, some nefarious (like the guy from Chy-nah and Vandenberg), for years now. This is very different.

Have no idea about the NJ stuff. Easy to find idiots online going nutz while looking at a landing pattern for an airport, with aircraft stacked up. This is a distraction. Those other incidents need to be explained.

82 Do we have almost *any* details about this SS incident? Five feet away? But the guy was behind a fence on which vegetation concealed him almost completely, I thought? So firing at the suspected location of the perp might easily miss, even from 5 feet? In other words, this was in no way a clear shot from 5 feet at a target on a stand, at the range.

Still hard to see how one round doesn't land, but all depends on where the agent thought the shooter actually was, standing/kneeling/prone, I would think. Which he might not have been able to determine due to the vegetation.

Not sure how that will all pan out. I wish complete failure for Blackrock and his friends in DC. In fact, I suspect they are pushing Biden to pardon them all. I hope he doesn't.

I commented yesterday that there are now an unholy number of hoops and hurdles one has to go through to operate a drone that weighs over some number of ounces... not pounds, but ounces. FAA certification (license) and the costs associated with it, insurance, specific gear for your drone so the FAA can track it and so on.

If you're operating a drone near one of the thousands of "No Drone Fly" zones in the US, and are caught, you're going to be paying a hefty fine and perhaps doing time if it was near a military installation or fedgov facility.

Unless you're Chinese, Iranian or some other protected agent of chaos.

212 If the Governor of New Jersey is extremely concerned about these things, why hasn't he ordered the NJ State Police or the NJ Army or Air National Guard to use one or more or their helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft to get a closer look at them? Also to see how they react when approached in the air. One NJ sheriff ordered his force to send-up a drone and approach one of the things. The report I read said the drone couldn't keep-up with the target it was trying to get near.

Things don't add up. People and organizations who can take official investigative actions don't appear to be doing so. One sheriff launched one of his drones, on his own authority, and that's all that's been done? Do state officials in NJ and other locations know what's going on and sincerely believe there is no threat to citizens and property? Have they been ordered by DoD, DHS, or the White House to not do a number of investigation actions? Or what?

219 If the Governor of New Jersey is extremely concerned about these things, why hasn't he ordered the NJ State Police or the NJ Army or Air National Guard to use one or more or their helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft to get a closer look at them? Also to see how they react when approached in the air. One NJ sheriff ordered his force to send-up a drone and approach one of the things. The report I read said the drone couldn't keep-up with the target it was trying to get near.

Things don't add up. People and organizations who can take official investigative actions don't appear to be doing so.

Possibly because they have been told to stand down because it's a Homeland Security op. Because the NJ governor and select mayors have been breifed.

That's the only reason I can think of why no government or military has been trying to find out. Because they've been told to stand down.

220 Regarding the Harvard daytime moon, I was at football practice freshman year when I first really noticed the daytime moon. It was gorgeous: deep blue sky, fall foliage and the bright white moon.
If you lived in a dense city, I could believe never noticing the daytime moon.

225 I was making the assumption the Feds actually wanted to find this purported "dirty bomb." That may or may not be the case.

If looking for a dirty bomb, why would the search only be conducted for a few hours at night and not 24/7?

And there are much better terrestrial tools that can do this without the drama.

Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at December 15, 2024 01:58 PM (rHxhM)

226 Note, people are being ordered that if a drone does fall, NOT to approach it, and to call in one of the highly classified Hazmat teams to take care of it

So they can then tell you its a weather balloon, and not part of a US Spy Agency...

It might be.

From my 9-11 suitcase research those things must be maintained or some necessary components deteriorate relatively fast. They may be radioactive but they are inert.

You sir, are smoking your socks. The university system is the leftist proving grounds for the latest experimentation, mind fvckery, and golly knows what all. They have their own little fiefdoms setup.

No right to a presumption of innocence. No Lawyer. Expelled for after the fact accusations. No hearings. No appeals. No cops allowed, etc.

Note this is exactly the new “standard” employed by politicians and especially the media kingmakers. Accused of wrong doing 40 years ago?

Why, it’s a Credible Accusation!

235 Rumor control had it 40 years ago at least, that at least a few “suitcase” devices were smuggled via diplomatic pouch.

One of the coolest related stories. The Soviets gifted the US Embassy a heraldic eagle thing to hang on the wall. Well it was actually a passive spying device. Inside, was a very delicate mechanism designed by a guy named Theramin - the same spooky hands free audio instrument.

The Soviets wouod beam a specific resonant frequency radio beam at it, and they could strip off the voices talking in the room from maybe 100 yards away. Nobody discovered it for a few years, by accident. The Brits were picking up convos. No batteries required, pretty clever.

236 Another point about Musk: Starship lands anywhere. So he doesn't care about our ports being mobbed up, inefficient stinky ports full of commies. They should be automated but them being inefficient benefits Musk.

239 The hedge was very dense. There's a reason the would-be assassin wasn't seen until the barrel protruded through. The agent couldn't actually see the shaded assassin, only fire at the approximate position of where a shooter would be based on the end of the barrel.

242 Keep in mind that communists throughout History never give up power willingly or peacefully. These drones may be an attempt by the communist death democrat federal government to create a crisis and prevent President Trump from lawfully being sworn in as President. Sounds crazy but desperate democrat communists have no respect for anything except power. Be prepared for the worst.
