Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Duke Rape Hoaxer Crystal Mangum Admits, After 18 Years, She Made Up a Lie for "Validation"In 2006, a stripper named Crystal Mangum made up a completely-false rape accusation about Duke Lacrosse players. The leftwing media showed, get this, no skepticism whatsoever for her story and campaigned to have these completely-innocent boys imprisoned. They still haven't faced accountability. Only now does she admit she made it all up for "validation."If you're too young to have watched this story unfold in real time, it's hard to explain how absolutely derangement of the left. You see it now, but this was one of the earliest Masks Off moments where they showed they just wanted to imprison Straight White Boys and it didn't matter to them if they were guilty or not. They wanted Equity in Imprisonment, and if that means that some innocent white boys have go to prison for 20 years to make the numbers look good, so much the better. It quickly became obvious that this was a complete fabrication, but the left -- by which I mean the media -- bitterly clinged to their religion. Which is a nasty form of racist Marxism.

Mattress Girl from Wikipedia.
In April 2013, Sulkowicz filed a complaint with Columbia alleging that they had been raped by Paul Nungesser, another Columbia student, on August 27, 2012.[7] A university inquiry found Nungesser 'not responsible'. In May 2014, Sulkowicz filed a report against Nungesser with the New York Police Department (NYPD).[8] After the district attorney's office interviewed Sulkowicz and Nungesser, it found insufficient grounds for reasonable suspicion. Sulkowicz declined to pursue criminal charges further,[9] saying that NYPD officers were dismissive and had mistreated Sulkowicz.[10][11][12][13] Sulkowicz subsequently focused their senior thesis on a work of performance art entitled Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight). Starting in September 2014, the student carried a mattress around campus and to classes. The performance and their allegations received considerable media attention, with Sulkowicz becoming known as "Mattress Girl". Nungesser denied Sulkowicz's allegations of rape, citing as evidence friendly messages from Sulkowicz in the weeks following the alleged attack.[14] Posted by: Stateless at December 13, 2024 12:15 PM (jvJvP) 41

This story was massive. It cannot possibly be oversold. The key point is Duke University and the prosecutor in that city turned on their own people their own students. I think it was something like 80 professor who signed a letter saying they thought the students were guilty and Duke in and of itself was some horrible place. For sure this was the first valley sent by the hard left to say they are here and they are not taking any prisoners.. this was a massive event in modern American history and for sure one of the darkest things we have seen. It for told the racial enemies ginned up by the hard left simply to do damage to this country.

Not really. It’s well understood by many at this point that the legacy media is a propaganda division of the Democratic Party and liberals in general. They are not concerned with the truth. They are concerned with appeasing the fever dreams of liberals, dividing the nation with lies, and ruining anyone who doesn’t admire their shibboleths or challenges their fallacies. Thankfully, this seems to be especially true for the younger generation of information consumers who forgo the propaganda machine. That seems to now be dominated by hipster boomers who are dying out along with the MSM. In that regard I wish Trump would stop trying to give them relevancy. I would submit there was a time when the mere accusation of rape was the coup de grace for anyone, no matter how innocent. However, the left has used that accusation as a tactic against innocent people for so long it now treated with a greater amount of skepticism. Surprisingly I do not blame Mangum so much for what happened, and applaud her reforming her life and finally proclaiming the truth publicly. At the time, she was a whacked out hooker/drug addict that no sane person should have believed about anything.
She was not the true villain of the story, that was DA Mike Nifong, who was running for re-election in a black majority district and who wanted a juicy black vs white court case that he could use to get re-elected. He didn't just believe Mangum's story, he KNEW she was lying, and deliberately hid evidence in his possession that proved she was lying. She was a drug addict, but he was completely sane and sober and knew *exactly* what he was doing when he tried to railroad them. His power over this case was 100 times what hers was, and he deserves 100 times the blame for what happened. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 13, 2024 12:22 PM (wyMQY) 90

For sure, a poor person would not have those types of lawyers, but may be a poor person would not have been targeted in this way.. this case was an example of what was coming for us. I feel bad even bringing up the argument earlier in a few threads earlier about. Should someone attend Duke. I’m not sure why that entire discussion started, but I’m starting to think I know now.. I wouldn’t send anyone to Duke for even 10 minutes without a hazmat suit.
It it is funny. The left loves Duke, even though the entire school is based on cigarette tobacco wealth. Posted by: Quint at December 13, 2024 12:23 PM (quqls) 100

I heard an Islamic guy explain this with a different take that I hadn't considered. Accusing a woman of adultery is so heinous, because a woman cheating to them is just the worst. So if you are going to sully a woman's honor and possibly condemn her to death for the crime, you BETTER bring your receipts. A man has to have 4 witnesses that saw the woman cheating, or the man accusing her is in deep water. It was an interesting perspective. Posted by: LizLem at December 13, 2024 12:23 PM (wcIbG) 101

I remember calling in to Neal Boortz's show and arguing with him over the event. He'd already tried and hung the accused in addition to excoriating any on the right who had questions. Posted by: Luigi ====== Ah yes, Neil Boortz. Right at times, wrong at times, but never doubting himself ever despite his checkered past. Like Michael Savage, Boortz was acting on the air rather than any deep thinker. The shtick that Boortz employed was to get listeners riled up--he did not care whether they were for or against what he said, only that they tuned in to listen. Amusing in small doses but tedious to listen to other than occasionally while trapped in the car going somewhere. Better than the insipid wasteland of radio musak at the time. Most people don't know this:
At the height of the MeToo mvement, California passed a law allowing "third parties" to offical lodge rape complaint charges -- i.e. if you hear about a rape, you can report it to the police, anonymously, and by law it must be investigated. Sounds reaosnable enough, right? Well, here's what happened: On the very day the law came into effect, literally EVERY SINGLE FRATERNITY MEMBER at UC Berkeley was anonymously accused of rape. Hiundreds and hundreds of accusations. At the same moment, campus leftists screched online "Destroy the fraternity system!!" and bragged about the false accusations. The police had to waste an enormous amount of time determining that every single accusation wad false. And from that day forward not a single third-party rape report has ever been filed at UC Berkeley. The whole law was passed for the very purpose of this single mass-false-rape accusation. THAT is how evil the Left is. Posted by: zombie at December 13, 2024 12:33 PM (pMi6S) 159

Every single part of this story was stupid and unbelievable on it's face.
And that's why the left pushed it so hard: They knew it was a lie but they also knew the power of forcing everyone to accept the lie. I mean, ffs, the key to the story was the boys were racist. You know, because all racists hire black strippers to perform for them. How f'ing stupid do you have to be to believe that? But beyond that, not one single bit of evidence collaborated her story other than she was hired to strip, she performed and left. Not one other fact of what she claimed happened ever was supported. Not one bit of evidence ever came out to support even mild groping, let alone rape. Her word vs. the dozens of other who were there. 254, boron. I do agree that connections mean a lot in this world.. I have seen that in my own life so for sure I don’t discount it. If you can get your kids into a place where they will make connections and be in a network that will help them for sure. That is a good thing. Even looking back in my own life, I realize where connections have helped me, and where a lack of such things have made my prospects worse.. for sure you also want them to have a good education, but you’re not wrong about the connections in the end. It is about getting a job and a good one.

Posted by: Sebastian Melmoth Because the courts have become politicized just like in other countries. That is a problem for the Federalist Society types because like John Roberts declaring there were no Obama judges, it is false and pernicious to deny that leftists have politicized justice. What would be better is if people like Roberts admit there is a problem and then the debate can begin what to do about it. Ostrich like proclamations of originalism or muh precedent allow leftists to continue to eviscerate and undermine law to the extent that the Rule of Law is being destroyed. That Rule of Law rests on the beliefs of the public that one's case before the court is settled by law rather than politics (never absolutely true of course). Instead, leftists invert justice as to them the identity (prior to that it was social class) of the persons involved matters more than the rule of law. Posted by: callsign claymore Derived from declarations by Paul. James takes the other side by declaring acts are what is important. In reality, both claims are overstated and by Christ's direct words, it requires both faith and acts. I think Paul and James would agree actually and Luther's position on the matter had to deal more with the existence of indulgence sales by the Catholic Church in his era. Paying the church for forgiveness is NOT virtuous which is why the Church reined in that particular practice in the Reformation. Posted by: whig at December 13, 2024 01:17 PM (ctrM5) 365

It's just as damaging for a woman to not be believed, as it is for a man be falsely accused. Soul scarring. I've walked with friends through both of these trials by fire.
I think the best path is to start off believing accusations, in good faith, and pursue them. But you are focused on the truth, not a preconceived agenda. And if the truth changes, and it proves the allegation was false, you pivot and swiftly drop charges and stop believing the woman. I also think if you can prove a take accusation was false, you sentence them to the time that the accused would have to have faced for the crime. Because lying about such a heinous crime is unacceptable, just as rape is unacceptable. Posted by: LizLem at December 13, 2024 01:24 PM (wcIbG) 387

Now she appears to be confessing to her heinous bearing of false witness against those innocent men. If her confession is truly motivated by seeking God's salvation, then God bless her and praise be to Jesus Christ for her letting His grace into her heart.
