Some real art from the same painter:
https://tinyurl.com/4y79s8cw Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait's "On Point" (1874) Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait was a prominent 19th-century artist known for his detailed depictions of wildlife and rural American life. "On Point," created in 1874, exemplifies Tait's mastery in the use of oil on wood, a medium that allowed him to achieve remarkable detail and texture. The painting captures a moment of intense focus and anticipation, characteristic of Tait's ability to convey narrative through animal subjects. Tait's work is significant for its contribution to the American sporting art genre, reflecting the cultural and social interests of the period. His paintings often served as a bridge between European artistic traditions and the burgeoning American art scene. Tait's influence extended beyond his lifetime, as his works continue to be celebrated for their technical skill and evocative portrayal of nature. https://tinyurl.com/437uz7wu colour version Posted by: andycanuck (hovnC) at December 20, 2024 09:39 AM (hovnC) 71

Tait is a mixed bag for my taste. I like the realism and detail in the rabbits and the other animals he painted. And it is a lovely, peaceful scene. That happened to my neighbor when I lived out in the country in Michigan. He'd dropped a very large oak tree and had de-limbed the entire thing, hauling all the brush to the burn pile. All that remained was for him to buck up the huge trunk with his chainsaw. The trunk was laying on an incline and he was standing on the downhill side of the trunk (big mistake) to buck. Posted by: banana Dream at December 20, 2024 *** Has the late '70s animated film ever been shown on TV? I can imagine it would frighten a kid -- the General frightened *me* as a grownup, just reading about him, and his depiction in the film is just as bad. There was a new multi-part adaptation a few years ago, and I watched a few parts on YooToob. All the rabbits looked alike, the lighting was that dim greyish stuff you see in all the live-action films now, and the whole thing turned me off. I have no idea how they depicted the General. National Post: New 'anti-racist' Canadian military scrapes new lows for morale, capability
More than half of Canada's naval and air fleets are now unfit to 'meet training and readiness requirements' A new report finds that while the Department of Defence is making steady progress on all its new "equity and diversity" goals, morale is plummeting and the Canadian military has reached new lows in terms of its ability to actually deploy forces. For the first time, more than half of Canada's naval and air fleets were marked as being unfit to "meet training and readiness requirements," according to the military's latest Departmental Results Report, published Tuesday. We were, yesterday, cheering on the idea of the federal government shutting down. Then, when Team Red gets a loss, we turn on the members of the caucus who vote against a bloated CR (yes, it's still bloated at incredible spending levels that even rids themselves of the debt limit for 2 years, it's just less bad than what was before, but still bad).
Why not bask in, "Chip Roy is leading to smaller government" or some variation thereof? Or, "I still want the federal government to shut down"? Posted by: TheJamesMadison, trying to figure out Joel Schumacher at December 20, 2024 09:03 AM I noticed that yesterday as well. And now his timeline for the past day has been full of him ripping into Nancy Mace and Mace ripping him. It's why I don't trust any of these "conservative" influencers anymore. Seems to be all about drama and clicks, instead of principles. That said, Mace does have some pretty stupid takes on issues in her past. Posted by: tubal at December 20, 2024 09:44 AM (PCK5/) --- For most of the Jewish laws there was a practical application for them. Almost anybody should know that pig is harder to safely cook than cow. That people can get violently sick from eating certain types of seafood. That it was good to bury your offal. And that pissing against a wall--given the chemicals in urine--could weaken the structure of the wall, and ruin the purpose for which it was built. Also, the late Dr. Michael Heiser has a good treatment of the ritual observances and "unclean" laws. To sum it: it was the things of mortality and humanness that made you ritually "unclean". Because the Lord was always trying to illustrate his holiness (separateness). Posted by: Axeman at December 20, 2024 10:37 AM (krQz2) 347

The '79 version changed the sequence of the ending a bit. Poor Fiver. Posted by: Anna Puma at December 20, 2024 *** I don't recall that. I do remember that one of Hazel's original escapees from the first warren is caught and killed (offscreen) by an owl in an early scene of the film, whereas in the novel, all the rabbits who followed Hazel out of their doomed home survived the adventure. As Adams's children specified, "None of *our* rabbits should die." To me, such a small thing doesn't matter. The filmmakers captured the look of the rabbits and their world, they kept the oral traditions of the rabbits and El-Ahrairah, and it was *exciting.* "All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and when they catch you they will kill you. But first, they must catch you." Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 20, 2024 10:42 AM (J2vNu) Posted by: San Franpsycho at December 20, 2024 10:42 AM (RIvkX) 364

Germany just closed its third and last nuclear power station. The result is that Germany is leaning hard on its neighbors to make up the loss in electrical output, especially Sweden. In southern Sweden, it now costs US$5 to take a 10-minute hot shower.
In Germany, new elections will be held in February, with polls giving Conservatives and the AfD landslide support. (link -TPM - The Political Movement) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bdhdjbca Posted by: mrp at December 20, 2024 10:49 AM (rj6Yv) 389

Posted by: TheJamesMadison, trying to figure out Joel Schumacher at December 20, 2024 10:06 AM (GBKbO) Per MercoPress: The Chilean Government of President Gabriel Boric Font sent a protest note through diplomatic channels to Argentina after Economy Minister Luis Toto Caputo dubbed the leftwing leader a “Communist” who was sinking his country. [Chile] said Caputo made “inappropriate and inaccurate statements” during a radio interview with a Buenos Aires broadcaster. In addressing the issue of the “cultural battle,” Caputo said Chile was an example: “Today they are practically governed by a Communist who is about to sink them” and insisted that President Javier Milei's administration was victorious in that regard, whereas Chile had chosen to neglect it. “A note of protest was formally delivered to the Ambassador of Argentina in Chile, Jorge Faurie, expressing the rejection of the Government of Chile to the inappropriate and inaccurate statements made by the Minister of Economy of Argentina, Luis Caputo,” Posted by: Kindltot at December 20, 2024 10:51 AM (D7oie) 396

@Weaponization releases 17,000-page staff report detailing the Select Subcommittee's findings about the Biden-Harris Administration's weaponized federal government.
Through its oversight and investigations, the Select Subcommittee found numerous instances of the federal government being weaponized against the American people. For example, the Select Subcommittee: -Highlighted censorship by Big Tech that led to Mark Zuckerberg admitting Facebook was pressured by the Biden-Harris White House to censor Americans. -Empowered whistleblowers to come forward and have their voices heard despite retaliation by the Department of Justice and the FBI. -Protected the First Amendment, leading to the dissolution of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and other organizations that worked to censor Americans' speech. -Revealed the weaponization of federal law enforcement against the American people, leading to important policy changes from the Department of Justice and IRS. -Uncovered evidence that the Biden campaign coordinated with 51 former intelligence officials to interfere in the American electoral system weeks before the 2020 presidential election https://bit.ly/3BtRlSr Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 20, 2024 10:56 AM (P5BPp) 413

Modern society should no longer put up with people calling "The Right" *fascist*.
Because they are just proving themselves to be parrots for Stalin's big charge that Soviet interference was saving the world from fascism. We shouldn't allow people to get away with such dronery without a mention that "The Right" is only the Non-Left. There is "a Left", the Left, post-Marx, is defined as those people who want to progress through Marx's 6 "Stages of History" and get to "Communism". But everybody who wants the monarchy to come back, and everybody who wants to remain in a constitutional republic, until we see a better idea, and everybody who is influenced by Gentile's "Concrete Idealism" and the role of the State to lead the collective, simply does not want to "progress" to Marx's 6th and final "Stage of Man". What did Musk do?
1. Publicized parts of the bill that not only he didn't like, but that alarmed numerous citizens and voters. People saying that this is somehow "government" are really threatening a totalitarian state where nobody with sufficient power outside the system is supposed to affect what happens inside the system, even simply using their own assets. 2. Elon threatened to run people against them, you know, like in an election? Thus, it's a "threat" that can't be made good unless your fucking constituents agree!! So, they are saying that nobody who did not scam their way into elective office should be able to change the minds of the voting public? Fascism, straight up. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at December 20, 2024 11:01 AM (Zz0t1) --- Europe has had this model for years--although not the suppression so much as recently. And this is the form that "progressives" in America have admired, the system where the government "has enough power to DO SOMETHING". The American Left typically hates Checks and Balances and Separation of Power, because it gets in the way of its agenda. But it's the lack of Separation of Power that has allowed the countries of Europe to become what they are. They moved from well-meaning Fascism (the symbol of strength in unity) to its more repressive form. Posted by: Axeman at December 20, 2024 11:08 AM (krQz2) 438

Posted by: Truck Monkey at December 20, 2024 11:05 AM Good video to watch for anyone who owns a Hybrid: Hybrid vehicles are a great solution to improving fuel economy, but they have their own unique challenges. Because hybrid engines start & stop frequently, this often results in lower engine temperatures, which in turn can create issues with water and fuel dilution. Frequent start/stops, water, and fuel, can all create problems that exacerbate engine wear. To combat this, Mobil 1 has developed Mobil 1 hybrid, a full synthetic motor oil that is designed to meet the challenges that hybrid vehicles place on engines. This video will focus on three main subjects: how hybrids work, why hybrids are hard on engines, and what solutions exist to combat these challenges. https://bit.ly/4fvOF5m Posted by: Clyde Shelton at December 20, 2024 11:10 AM (P5BPp) 439
