I’ve often drank really bad coffee and a few times told the true story how I once crushed beans with a rock and used my sock as a filter to make a cup. There is just something comforting about a cup of coffee. It’s home. It’s solace. Dare I say, it’s peaceful. No matter where I am it reminds me of those things. It connects the spiritual with the worldly. After prayer, I have a cup and reflect on the things in this world and how I can pursue them in a way the Lord wants me too. I realize that may sound somewhat bizarre to some people. But my “Coffee Ritual” is, and has been grounding force in my life, so to speak. Posted by: Marcus T at December 14, 2024 08:51 AM (ibKjr) 57

Prayers up for those that have asked us for them in the prayer list; Prayers up for those that know they need them but have not asked us for them; Prayers up for those that need them but don’t know it yet; and Prayers up for those who pray alone, asking for help in silence, and whose prayers are known but to God! Prayers up even for all "our" politicians who have decided that their 10% graft and power are still far more desirable than their honor or integrity, may they see the error of their ways and repent! And lastly, prayers up for our future President Trump, keep him and our beloved country safe from harm and may the many forces of corruption and evil arrayed against both him and our country be rendered ineffective and their plans come to naught! Posted by: Marcus T at December 14, 2024 08:51 AM (ibKjr) --- Nothing wrong with that. It's part of my morning ritual as well, and something of an acquired taste I picked up when I got a real job in an office. Since my 20s, I've had to watch my caffeine intake. I used to drink a lot of Coke back then and noticed I'd get stomach aches. Since then I have a pretty low tolerance for it, and if I have more than one serving, I feel on edge. If I'm drowsy and have to drive, an energy drink works better. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at December 14, 2024 08:56 AM (ZOv7s) 64

I spent way too much dough on a super automatic maker and an Italian grinder. But between those two it makes an amazing cup of espresso with the right beans. My dad had season tickets to the Vikings at Met Stadium, 3rd deck one row off the railing. Coldest seats on planet earth. There were scads of drunken Minnesotans who stripped down to their shorts in un-godly cold weather. It was a different world back then.
Posted by: Truck ===== As a yoot, there were more tv games of the vikings than the packers, I think because green bay had some lean years late 70s, and vikes were perennial playoff team. Because of that, I remember seeing Met in cold weather, thinking "those are the toughest people in the world, to be out there in that kind of cold. I would appreciate a prayer or two for Tim, a passing acquaintance from Southern Virginia.
He apparently dodged a deer while driving, but went off the road into a ditch, jamming the drivers side door, and then the car caught on fire. Amazingly, there was an ongoing house fire nearby, so the fire department EMT's saw the flames and were somehow able to extract him from the car; however, he suffered severe burns on his hands and legs, and was medevac'd to a regional medical center. He is already undergoing skin grafts on his hands and legs and will be in a bad way for some time. He and I would appreciate Horde prayers for him! Posted by: Auspex at December 14, 2024 09:11 AM (j4U/Z) Locking down everyone in their homes for months was a really shitty idea. Hollyweird backed it to the hilt and ultimately fucked themselves. Streaming isn't going to save them . Streaming is going to ruin them. Speaking of Vaudeville, I'm diving into the world of VTubers and discovering the breadth and depth of it all and it couldn't have expanded the way it did without the lockdowns. Hollywood is currently in the process of being replaced. The VTubers themselves strike me as the modern successors of Vaudeville as they clown around, joke and sing (and play lots of video games). Their viewers in "chat" are just a modern day peanut gallery. What's old is new again. Posted by: Robert at December 14, 2024 09:18 AM (tXAeC) 115

Modern drones, ie, any drone manufactured within the last decade have transponders and GPS, they also have to file flight plans if they are above a certain size as the ones captured on film so far. 12/7 – Jordan61 requested prayers for his mother, who is going in for a CAT scan. Mom has been coughing and congested ever since she caught a cold in August. They have done antibiotics, etc. since, and a chest X-ray revealed something that caused the doctor to recommend an urgent CAT scan.
— — Sounds like my father. He has been in the hospital for a week two times since September with pneumonia. Second time because he had developed blood clots in his legs & they went to his lungs. CAT scan found them. All of this because he has COPD and asthma and allergies. When he gets allergies or sinus problems he just lays down in his recliner for weeks on end and won’t get up for anything but to eat or bathroom. Won’t even get up to go to bed because he “can’t sleep in there”. Yet he sleeps just fine in the recliner for half the day and slept in the bed for months after his wife died in Feb. but as soon as he got sick over the summer the recliner is his home & best friend. It’s driving me crazy watching him waste away, when he knows it’s slowly killing him from inactivity and lack of exercise. He’s got a secret death wish. I told him I’m not going to help him do it. Yet he persists. Posted by: SpeakingOf at December 14, 2024 09:24 AM (6ydKt) 130

BMT at breakfast I would try to quickly down enough carbs for energy and spend the rest of what little time I had enjoying a cup of coffee. The MSgt thought I had “issues”.
Posted by: Marcus T at December 14, 2024 09:07 AM (ibKjr) --- A tactics I used to brilliant effect at BMT was to carry a military-issue Bible in a plastic bag in my cargo pocket. Whenever we were stopped, I pulled it out, especially in line for chow. The drill sergeants will go down the, quizzing privates from the Smart Book and if you got the answer wrong, you had to go the back of the line. When they got to me, they just quietly skipped me. I was there from January to March, and the rule was that you had to go outside and wait in formation after you ate. I, on the other hand, would bus my tray and read my bible at a vacant table, and the one time a sergeant came over to yell at me he stopped short and in a quiet voice said "Sorry, private, time to go." And that, boys and girls, was how I read the New Testament. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at December 14, 2024 09:26 AM (ZOv7s) 136

Anyhow, I’m at my wit’s end.
How do you convince a sad, sick, depressed, stubborn, impatient, 82 year old man who’s been waited on hand and foot his entire life by the women around him, that his youngest son is not his servant and isn’t going to sit idly by while he commits suicide by Lazy-Boy? My mom spent the last few moths of life trying to get his ass out of the chair. I’m nowhere near as patient as she was and I’m tired of arguing with him about his stubbornness verging on stupidity. “I don’t like people telling me what to do.” “Nobody does, now get out the damn chair and move around.” “Leave me alone”. “That’s your problem. Everybody leaves you alone and you just sit in that damn recliner!” That’s what I’ve been dealing with… for months. I’ve got a mind to drag the recliner out to the curb and let somebody take it next time he goes to the hospital. He can watch his other best friend, the TV, in a straight back chair when he gets back. But I don’t want to be that asshole. Especially since I already am, according to him. This is such a fraught time of year for so many people. On the one hand, it is a time of joyous anticipation as Advent gives way to the arrival of the Christ child.
But we also think of those we have lost, or lost touch with, and all the family drama, estrangements come back to the fore. I am blessed insofar as my Christmas memories are overwhelmingly happy. I miss my grandparents at this time of year, having spent so much of my life with them because my parents divorced. That isn't the case for everyone, and the only advice I can give is to fully embrace the solace of prayer and focus on the joy rather than the sorrow. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. I don't think Russ/daughters bake their own bagels. But the lox and other accoutrements they surely do in-house as they have done for about 100 years IIRC. Everyone knows about Katz's deli but there used to be an amazing dairy restaurant nearby called Ratner's that is long gone, but not forgotten! They baked their own breads and rolls. My Dad was insufferable at the end.
I've had a lot of time to reflect on things over the years and the one thing I wish I had done different is that I wish I had gotten him to tell me more stories about what it was growing up and stuff like that. Keep it positive and don't let it turn into complaining about how he sees things now. Think of some casual way of starting the conversation like talking about some sports team and then ask what was the mascot of his HS. Something like that. I think a lot of older folks are living in the past, in their memories. Maybe you can get them to share some of it. Maybe with luck you can think of something he would like to do based on his memories. It was a good time to be alive back then. Much simpler. -------- So... the 747's in question are repos. Really. They were originally ordered by some overseas airline and either they went bankrupt or defaulted on the purchase. The planes have been sitting in the Mojave Desert's "boneyard" for years. But... they are fairly "new" by 747 standards as that model airplane has been out of production for a while. The money isn't all for the aircraft. It's for all the retrofitting the feds need for AF-1. There's a crapload of specialized communications, environmental, survivability and whatnot for what amounts to a flying White House. A buddy of mine who flew AF-2's (used by the VP and cabinet members... modified 757's) told me AF-1 is probably more survivable in a hostile airspace than any of our military jets. So... that $2B per plane is for a lot of stuff you'll never see or hear about. And grift. The money's not all going to Boeing either. Another key difference is that there is no central planning authority to lead the resistance this time. They're flailing because they're self-activating without reference to each other.
Obama's DC residence provided a command and control center, but Biden's too far gone to do that and there is no clear successor. That's why they're messaging is so contradictory. Are they going to stay and fight or quit en masse? We're hearing both. Their opening moves have been completely retarded. On what authority can one sell construction materials from a congressionally mandated project??? Hello, Anti-Deficiency Act? There's a whole process that surplus property has to go through, including seeing if other government agencies can use it. Total retard move. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Sharon — I’m very independent and stubborn; when I had a knee replacement about 2 years ago I was determined to do everything myself (to my wife’s dismay) and I was able to do most things… yet I’m not sure I could’ve been without my wife for the first week. Things like filling the ice machine, driving me to PT I needed the help. I don’t know if a hip is similar or more difficult but 5-7 days in a rehab facility sounds good IMHO… especially if you have any stairs at all in your condo.
Coda: my life is much better now… I’m back to running and moving around without pain. Ran 8 miles this morning; knee feels great Posted by: LinusVanPelt at December 14, 2024 10:51 AM (ANuwa) 309

------ I think it will be interesting to see who does and who doesn't get one these purported pardons that the junta is considering. It's not *biden making the decisions. It's staffers and appointees who know that they themselves are at risk if not pardoned. And I still would like to see one each for Obama and Pelosi with the details of their crimes laid out.
