Posted by: Notsothoreau Gaaaahhhhh! I had (past tense on ourpose) a very nice samsung galaxy tablet ~$800 that i killed. My drunk a$$ knocked it into the tub. Screen was off/locked, but when I grabbed it, it thought I wanted to unlock it and turned on the screen. Ten pound bag of rice and 60 days later...I had vertical lines. Took it to a pro for screen replacement. No can do. The vertical lines are from capacitors in the brain box of the tablet shorting out and becoming unable to drive the screen. Now I use a crappy olde tablet that I got for $250 five years ago. Slower than the maple syrup CBD puts on his French toast in January. Sincerely hope you don't have the same problem. Lesson learned...don't soak in the hot tub and read books on the Kindle app. Especially with an expensive ass tablet. Learn from Bif. Don't do what Bif did. A recent rash of AI deepfake penguins seems to be related to an uncharacteristic migration pattern noted lately by POOP (the Penguin Observation Organization Professionals). The current theory is that this cute propaganda is designed to soften attitudes towards penguins in advance of their quest for world domination.
POOP has found penguins far out of their natural range and habitat. One colony has been seen (and smelled) in the Carolinas, where angry citizens had converged on paper mills, wrongly convinced that the mephitic aroma was arising from the pulpy process. This illustrates the danger of panic as these penguins proceed thru populated areas. Be wary, and report any sightings to POOP by calling 1-800-PEN-POOP. Ah, Napoli, where pizza was invented. The fishing boats would come home just before dawn, after a night's catch, the fishermen tired, cold and hungry. A quick to cook meal was in order: a flat bread, dabbed with olive oil, smothered with crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano or basil, sprinkled with mozzarella chunks and possibly bits of anchovies from the catch. Wood-fired oven and pizza was for breakfast. This was a poor man's meal but I have made it richer than what the original probably was.
The simplest I have had straight out of a bakery is just the dough, wet with olive oil, salt and pepper. Hot. As a preteen Mom would wake us up with this fragrant and tasty snack - it meant she had gotten up before light and gone to the bakery. Dad was back in East Africa and we were to follow later. I believe we have pizza for dinner. Little Cesar's. Posted by: Ciampino - Pizza! Pizza! at December 12, 2024 09:09 PM (i0xsb) 115

------- Rented a truck in Mountain View, CA for a move to Monterey, CA. About 100 miles one way. paid for a weekend. On Friday we pick up the truck in the late afternoon and drive home. Saturday we pack it for trip #1 to Monterey. Sunday, in Monterey it won't start. So we call U-Haul. The basically tell us, "tough shit" it's the weekend. I call AAA and they're like... you want us to do what? Truck is supposed to be back in Mountain View Sunday afternoon, but it's dead on the street. I've got another load to move. So we get some neighbors who we've never met before to help jump the piece of shit. Do another run to Mountain View. It's now late Sunday and we're done unloading. Truck won't start again. Can't return it Sunday. Monday the Monterey police show up because the U-Haul joint in Mountain View reported it stolen. Hilarity ensues. Truck is restarted again and returned to U-Haul. Left in parking lot blocking everything. And... it won't start. Stiffed U-Haul for the $$. Never heard another word. Posted by: Martini Farmer at December 12, 2024 09:10 PM (Q4IgG) 116

This is a big reason why Trump won:
The disintegration of civil society and descent into lawlessness. Perfect example out of Oakland (of course), where even the 911 system has completely broken down, and is staffed by snarky DEI hires who refuse to help you and even insult you, especially if you're a small business owner. In this case, hardworking immigrant gets his shop ravaged by ghetto rats, call 991 DURING the crime, nd gets told that it's not an emergency. You can bet this shop owner voted for Trump: East Oakland shop owner criticizes police response after burglary hit Police are investigating a brazen robbery at a cellphone repair shop in East Oakland. Surveillance video showed Mr. Phone Repair being ransacked by several suspects in a flash-mob-style burglary around 6 a.m. Wednesday. ... One of the shop's owners, Abdullah Mohammed, said his business does a lot to help the community. "Sometimes they're short on money, we will let them go," he said. Adding, "We fix about 10 to 15 phones every single day." He said he called 911 repeatedly to report the burglary, even as the crime was in progress. (con't) Posted by: zombie at December 12, 2024 09:17 PM (pMi6S) 124
"When I called 911, she told me, and I quote, she said 'Stop calling this number, because this is an emergency line.' Like this is not an emergency. Like 15 people broke in. That's a crime, isn't it?" Mohammed said.
He said he then began calling the non-emergency line. "I'm on hold for 10 minutes and nobody picked up. I called actually five or six times," he said. Police did not show up for more than nine hours. "Every single phone that we have in here, we have a tracker inside the phone," said Mohammed."We know exactly where the phones are. We told the cops that over the phone and they didn't do anything." Fear is now a factor at the recently opened shop. "Sometimes you don't go to sleep. And you're in fear and you don't know when your store is gonna get broken into," said Mohammed. He said the losses are likely to exceed $100,000. Posted by: zombie at December 12, 2024 09:17 PM (pMi6S) 125

------- Irrepressible UK startup Skyports Drone Services has landed what – in theory, anyway – could be a gold mine of near- and long-term UAV activity through its new partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In announcing its new multi-year agreement with the Port Authority, Skyports said the initial focus will be on middle-mile drone deliveries between distribution centers and points of sale. The idea: elevate a hefty portion of the truck and van traffic currently clogging roadways in and around New York City and New Jersey into the sky with transport UAVs. That’s a fairly huge potential of entirely new aerial activity on its own, but more might possibly be ahead. Posted by: mikeski at December 12, 2024 08:36 PM (DgGvY) ---- That was my thought. I didn't see an island nearby which could hold a colony. Where was that penguin going to go? Unless they wanted it to learn to fish and then come back? Posted by: Ciampino - A bird in the surf is worth .... at December 12, 2024 09:43 PM (i0xsb) 165
I heard that Trump invited Chairman Xi to his inauguration.
He should, also, invite Putin. Posted by: Braenyard - some absent friends are more equal than others at December 12, 2024 09:39 PM (9oFPr) For giggles, he should also invite Britney Grinier to carry Putin piggyback. Posted by: Hour of the Wolf at December 12, 2024 09:44 PM (VNX3d) 166
>>Maybe not Tehran, but the other two probably know more of what's going in than we do.
Tehran has been attacking Israel with drones for quite some time. This could be nothing. But our response has been telling. Basically, it's our federal government scratching their balls and saying "I have no idea what's going on". I'm not real concerned with these particular drones but we sure do look weak when we claim to have no idea what's going on. That concerns me. Posted by: JackStraw at December 12, 2024 09:45 PM (LkLld) I'd use them for testing of anti-drone weaponry. And even if we did not have any new anti-drone weaponry, shoot down a few of them just to say we are. Act like you are in command of the safety of a nation, you immature twats. 146 If you're sitting in Moscow or Beijing or Tehran watching this what would you be thinking about our response?
Posted by: JackStraw at December 12, 2024 09:28 PM (LkLld) ---------- Probably not much. They still haven't stopped laughing since the Chicoms swanned across the entire American continent in a spy balloon. Posted by: Cicero (@cicero43) at December 12, 2024 09:49 PM (JkO4W) 171

Posted by: haffhowershower at December 12, 2024 09:20 PM (NMT5x) ---- Growing up elsewhere in the world, I never got that cartoon strip. Gridiron football (handball?) was alien - why is someone even holding the ball for a kickoff? We were all familiar with Hollywood life but high school appeared so undisciplined. Why are the students not wearing uniforms as they do almost everywhere else in the world? They are too friendly and cheeky to the teachers.
